Doors: Too hard to break, too easy to chop

Well, as someone else pointed out, this is a game of heroic characters. I, however, do not consider a 5th level character as heroic. 12th level, OK, that is starting to get heroic. Basically, when the combat system sarts to break down, and you have characters doing things like you read about...

Is blindness the exact same thing as invisiblity

I would say they are the same thing. It is a grey region in the rules. It would be better, however, if your character also became invisible when blinded. That would make them the same thing... -Fletch!

    Improved Manyshot

No, you do shoot more arrows (considering BAB+EAB), at an ever increasing penalty. That is what Andy Collins had on his site. It's just that BAB+EAB doesn't give you more iterative attacks. -Fletch!

    Thinking outside the generic campaign

I ditched goblins and their kin, made Orcs lawful evil and gnolls lawful neutral. Orcs are militaristic and agressive. Gnolls are even more militaristic but more introspective; but don't kick over the behive. Bizarre monsters (digester, darkmantle, etc.) are not around. Elves are secretive...

Bow of true arrows - to good to be true

You'd be surprised how often the 30' is just no there, or that you have to use the other part of your move to get into range. It's non-trivial. And, as has been previously mentioned, the designer recommended that the penalty be increased to -2 per arrow shot. That makes it a -8 penalty (not a...

    clarification on sneak attack

Is the DM new to 3E (i.e. is this a case of 1E/2E rules contagion, since sneak attacks were different in the old days), or is this question relative to a specific event? It's hard to get ranged sneak attacks except for the first round of combat, unless you blink/invis/hide. -Fletch!

    Portals: just how immobile?

I don't. I just want to confirm that my thought process was somewhat kosher, because I will make future decisions in the same or similar manner. -Fletch!

    Portals: just how immobile?

Actually, I believe FRCS says the archways and stuff like that are simply there to mark the portal. The portal itself is like a mathamatical plane, only width and height, no mass, etc. -Fletch!

    Improved Manyshot

On the same or facing page for the epic attack bonus and save bonus progression, it specifically says to treat your combined BAB and EAB as you BAB for purposes of fulfilling requirements of feats, prestige classes and the like. Combined BAB and EAB does not get you extra attacks, only BAB...

    Weapon-specific Feats and Size Change

Actually, check the SRD, Equipment I. Going upwards, a dagger translates exactly into a short sword, a short sword translates exactly into a longsword, and a longsword or bastard sword translate exactly into a greatsword. Going downward, the short sword translates exactly into a dagger, and a...

Bow of true arrows - to good to be true

You make one attack roll, several arrows hit if successful. Only one of them gets your 'precision' damage, which I would rule as anything restricted to 30' range. -Fletch!

Should a DM change an official NPC?

Players do not have access to stuff that is 'behind the screen', so it is irrelevant. If the DM says that a certain NPC does X, he does, and that is that. How is a character supposed to know if a certain NPC is a wizard, sorcerer or both? Heck, half of my major, campaign-level NPCs have no...

If there was one thing about 3rdE that you could change, what would it be?

I've seen variants where people also use 4d6-4. This leads to an even tighter bell curve, and anything more than 4 dice is effectively a small variance plus a big bonus (20d6 is nearly the same as 2d4+65). I took the opposite approach in 2E, and I'm thinking of applying it in my next campaign...

    Are lessons learned through D&D?

Before my last reply be judged as too harsh, answer this question: Why do people do anything? My answer is: to learn. Even if you go to a basketball game as a spectator, you are learning. You observe what happens at the game (aside form any conversation with friends or nearby spectators)...

    Weapon-specific Feats and Size Change

This is a major problem with the system. I won;t post my reply (though I have several ideas) simply because not a one would make more than 20% of the gaming population happy. It is not covered in the rules, unless you rule that everything is ultra-specific; it says one weapon, and so it is...
