Value of captured loot, esp. magic items

Re: Re: Re: Re: Value of captured loot, esp. magic items True, D&D math can get pretyy funky. But both the sell at 50% and seven billion chickens example are absurd results. Typically you throw out absurd results; like calculating the length of a wire; you might get two answers, one of which...

    Are lessons learned through D&D?

You miss the most important point - inspiration teaches you that something is or has the potential to be important, either to you or society as a whole. While Star Trek didn't teach a single Apollo astronaut how to make the space capsule go left, it did teach them that the exploration of space...

How much "flavor" can you remove before the game stops being D&D?

As long as the rules are there, it is D&D. Everything d20 fantasy is really just tweaked-out D&D by another name. Add technology (ridiculous Dragonlance gnomes), firearms (more gnome troubles), 'science', and it is no longer D&D. Tinker with alignments of classes, multiclassing, deities, etc...

    Alt. AC + DR rules.

How do you figure magic armor into the equation? I have my own system, but I'm curious to see how you did it. -Fletch!

Value of captured loot, esp. magic items

And why not find a party of NPC adventurers. Presumably, they are selling their unwanted items at 50% (if you go by the book). You could offer them 60%, and they should be ecstatic. Reverse is true. An NPC might be happy to buy an item from you at 90% market, if he would otherwise buy it at...

    Spell Book Worth

We use the spellbook mastery rule from Magic of Faerun, so foreign spellbooks are never useless - unless you don't have a wizard (which was the case for a long time in one of our campaigns). Because spellbooks can be very useful, we consider their market price to be the lesser of 200gp/spell...

    Portals: just how immobile?

I really hope the rumors are true that someone has picked up the rights to do a Stargate d20 game. Pretty much as a rule, I play fantasy, but not modern or sci-fi. But for Stargate, I'll make an exception! It's almost an amalgam of fantasy, modern and sci-fi. -Fletch!

    Portals: just how immobile?

But what if some creature of colossal+ size (like the mithril golem from Scarred Lands) came and moved the room?! I agree, the room is the key. Since teleport is really the base spell (via TwoE), it cares about the description/surroundings. I would probably even rule that, if you moved the...

Value of captured loot, esp. magic items

Re: Re: Value of captured loot, esp. magic items 100% wit and zero substance. If you buy a house for $175k and sell it ten years later, do you get $87.5k for it? No, you actually get more. A car might be a bit different, but the use of the item has a real wear-and-tear effect on the...

If there was one thing about 3rdE that you could change, what would it be?

If I could change one thing...? Every spell at each level would be balanced and 'equal' to all of the others. Then, you could easily have a magic item creation system that was balanced and all the whiners about haste and invisibility items being too powerful would vanish. Invisibility would...

    Portals: just how immobile?

AuraSeer pretty much got my question. You almost can't open the PHB without hitting a page that defies the laws of physics as we know them. But, hey, it is fantasy, with magic, etc. From the few responses this has gotten, I figure that most/all agree with my decision, so I'll stick with it...

Value of captured loot, esp. magic items

OK, here is the issue. How does your campaign handle the sale of captured loot, especially magic items? In the SRD, it states the following: The Player's Handbook is close, but I do not have it at hand. The key here is the term 'commodity'. Magic items are ubiquitous in a standard 3E...

    Sunless Citadel

We had a mixed group of experienced and newbie players, with a 1st-timer DM, and we had a lot of fun in the Sunless Citadel. We went on to do the whole adventure path series (all the modules from WotC) except for the last, which we start this Sunday. It is a perfect series for a new DM...

    Portals: just how immobile?

A character in my campaign has built a flying tower per Stonghold Builder's Guidebook. That much is kosher. He wants to add a portal to another location within that tower. The description of a portal (in SBG or FRCS) says that a portal is immobile. If the tower flies, will the portal move...
