    A Sundering point of View

I as a player hate sunder, and here is why: Dwarf fighter/cleric in our group decides to sunder opponent's weapons, all the time. One time, it is even an obviously magical item. Item goes boom, the party just lost major treasure. Now, many times, the item is not obviously magical. How many...

Do you use Psionics in your campaign?

I voted yes, but I have to qualify it. I only use Psi as a DM, and that for traps/magic items that I don't want to be easy (I use the psionics is different option). -Fletch!

Rule of Thumb for Balance vs. Reflex

The Balance skill is fairly restricted in what it says it can do. Basically ledges and tightrope walking. Anything else (traps, etc.) is a Reflex save.

    Ring of Spell Turning question

It clearly says on command. So by saying the command word, you get the effect of spell turning as cast by a 15th level caster, basically duration. For a really high-powered campaign, we made a ring of continuous spell turning. Basically, for any spell, you rolled to see how many levels were...

    Haste, should it age you?

This statement implies that the NPCs are a) disposable combat elements, or b) NPCs are not viable, long term game elements with realistic desires, motivations, fears, etc. If something is balanced for PCs, it should be balanced for NPCs, unless you have a very unrealistic game world. As for...

    Identify

Unless it was flaming when the opponent used it. Then you need a command word to tun it off (it has no duration). That is as far as we house-ruled it: it let you know that there was more, but not what. This is usually enough to keep people from guessing the rest; I run with a paranoid group...

    Armor as DR: d20 Sources?

Armor as DR I am actually going to implement in a low-magic fantasy campaign. Not really sure how it is going to work out yet. Thanks for all the tips. -Fletch!

Do you think Haste is too powerful as is?

Re: Re So you should have a group composed of only arcane spellcasters. Then that group gets swarmed by many melee monsters and has to TP out. So, you DO need fighters, but they are second-class citizens; not a terribly fun game to play if you are stuck with a fighter. One of the better...

Do you think Haste is too powerful as is?

That's a tad unfair. Anyone can run as fast as a horse because of simple magic, but a horse cannot? No wonder he's unhappy. As for regular boots, if you take out the jump bonus, the cost is only 2kgp. -Fletch!

    Miasma effect

Target can hold breath to act, making saving throws for holding breath as normal. Target can cough and choke, doing nothing, but not having to make saves either. This also has the effect of 'resetting the counter' for holding one's breath. So basically, act, making saves as necessary, and...

    They cut me down!

After the launch of the ship, she haunts it as a ghost; that is the fairly obvious answer, though I'm sure you'll soon get a more creative/bizarre answer from someone else. -Fletch!

    Rules Question

The reverse is an even worse DM, by any measure. Stick with it, and it will work. Campaign design is all about force of will. -Fletch

Rule of Thumb for Balance vs. Reflex

If Balance can generate a DC for the task, it is Balance, otherwise Reflex. -Fletch!

    Pure speed!

I suppose you'd rather roleplay all 24 hours of every day in real time, then? Or is it OK to cut some corners and assume that something happens in the hours of off-time when not kicking in doors, slaying monsters and rescuing maidens? Sounds like you want a skill based system, so that all of...

Do you think Haste is too powerful as is?

Even a +2 bonus to AC would be reasonable. Then it would be a nerfed version of the 1E/2E haste, and it would seem to make both spellcaster-haters and melee-machine-haters happy. :) And what do we have left? The d20 Modern version. -Fletch!

Advice sought: you have two +'s to spend on a rapier. What do you choose?

I completely agree. Really, any weapon or armor mod for which there is no corresponding spell should have a spell. I plan on a camapaign with few permanent magic items, and some abilities will be 'lost forever' unless I whip up some custom spells. -Fletch!

Re: +2 Rapier Where is the 10-round limitation? Is it in the FAQ and I have just missed it? It is not in the weapon ability description... -Fletch!

Do you think Haste is too powerful as is?

I would hardly call melee characters unbalanced when compared to spellcasters, especially the arcane spellcasters that have routine access to haste. On the flip side, perhaps 33-50% of the 3E community feels that spellcasters are overpowered compared to non-spellcasters (and it has always been...

Duck Season, Wabbit Season, Actually its...

The ability is the item in question, not the item as a whole. If I take a wand (which is just really a stick), and enchant it to be a +5 tiny greatclub (caster level 15), that does not mean that the spells in the wand now have a caster level of 15. We are talking about the specific ability...

So druids can use ANY weapon they want?

My optinion is a bit more simple than this thesis outlined by Drawmack (which is very complete, by the way). I would say that the weapon and armor proficiency is the base ruling. The ironwood spell specifically sets out an exception to that rule, which should be followed since it is a...
