    Magic Item Math?

You can think of items with multiple powers as slotless items. That would jive with the smackdown I got from kreynolds and Artoomis regarding slotless items with multiple powers. Adding an additional power to an item involves welding some little widget (a slotless item) onto the base item, or...

    Magic Item Math?

It does work well for a high magic campaign, though. With some 21st level characters, items like this are common among the players: Aradglir’s Bauble (150,000gp value) Periapt of Wisdom +6 (base item) * +4 natural armor * Gives the wearer a +10 circumstance bonus on Escape Artist checks. *...

    Magic Item Math?

Is this actually written somewhere, or is it ... extrapolated, from other rule text and rulings? -Fletch!

Tracking down the Demons from previous editions

Pretty sure it was in 1E MMII, and it might also have been in the monster supplement for S4 Lost Caverns of "How the Hell Do You Spell That". -Fletch!

    Intelligent Book of Vile Darkness

Actually, in the BoVD (the hardcover game supplement), the BoVD (the in-game minor artifact) actually teleports after use, so it is not by any means a "one shot item". Making it intelligent would be more appropriate than it being non-intelligent. The sentience could be a collection of soul...

    Pure speed!

I think that the apprentice level route is perfectly OK. And, its codified in the rules, so there's no "well you said X last time" garbage when there is a disagreement. I'd just like to say that 0-level paladins got the shaft big time, though. -Fletch!

Do you think Haste is too powerful as is?

Except that it did not allow the massive barrage of spells that we now see from spellcasters. Hmmmm. You know, that seems to be the major point of contention for those that feel haste is overpowered. How convenient of you to forget it... -Fletch!

So druids can use ANY weapon they want?

Re: Re: Re: So druids can use ANY weapon they want? I'd vote for allowing druids to use ironwood weapons. I for one think that an ironwood scythe would be an awesome weapon for a druid. You could probably make it permanent with some magic item creation feat or other; house rule that one...

    Rules Question

While disease and starvation are in the DMG, it might be difficult to implement them in your new campaign idea (I read it on the other post). Figuring out how they work statistically (how many out of 100 average elves will die of Filth Fever before making enough saves to get better) might not...

    Magic Item Math?

Adding a power to an existing item is not the same as a slotless item. The cost factors may be the same, but they are not the same thing. If you want to add a power, the cost of that power is doubled. If you want the item to be slotless, the cost of the item is doubled. If you want to add a...

    Magic Item Math?

Wow, you should see the iousn stones for that lich in Lords of Darkness. I think SKR posted values for them (not present in the book), and they were amazing. There were ioun stones worth 500kgp! As for my campaigns and those I play in, they tend to be tough enough that there really is not...

    Armor as DR: d20 Sources?

Thanks. For some reason, I thought it was in WOT, but could not find it there (duh! it wasn't). -Fletch!

    Identify

We only allow someone to take 20 on alchemy checks for identifying potions. As for paying someone to do it, we just figured that a decent alchemist could do it in 5 tries max, and charge 7 if the players do not want to bother to do it themselves. Granted, this is in a fairly high-magic...

    Magic Item Math?

I don't understand why that is a problem. Are characters supposed to want items that are no good or only marginally good for them? Can you define this 'problem'? We tend to ask players (as a whole group, not jsut hte DM) for items to make sense. Why a mask of strength, or slotless underwear...

    Identify

We also figured out that the cost is pretty marginal, and, adding a markup, charge 7gp in all of our campaigns to have a potion ID'd. That keeps the high cost of identify from killing potions as a reasonable low-level treasure. It would only be 5gp for scrolls (if you only had a sorcerer who...

    Armor as DR: d20 Sources?

I asked this question as a tangent on another thread, and completely forgot which thread!? So, apologies to anyone that may have answered this earlier, but what d20 sources, and WotC sources preferred, have a mechanic for armor providing DR. Thanks in advance, Fletch!

    Damage Reduction Question

Note also that the description for Damage Reduction in MMII changed slightly, and now excludes non-magic enhancement bonuses, such as Adamantine. I don't know if this was in any official errata or the FAQ prior to MMII's release. -Fletch!

    I'm annoyed at archers.

Re: GMW, Archers, etc. Actually, nowhere is a maximum for strength bows stated. The table only goes to +4 for prices, but you have the formula for them. You could have a Masterwork Mighty (+13) Long Composite Bow for the Krusk mentioned below that only costs 1700gp. -Fletch!

    Identify

With potions, you use an alchemy check. Take 20 and just spend the requisite supplies form your alchemists lab. -Fletch!
