The game police, they live inside of my head

Future versions of D&D with rules as a 'toolset' instead of a integrated ruleset is unlikely. The principal reason is to meets the expectations of consumers and have a centralize 'conformity' of rules, structure and assumptions. If you speak about playing core D&D 3.5 (no houserules), 99% of...

Points of Light and the Forgotten Realms

A number of people wanting a reboot have stated the principal reason is the uber NPCs. But has been gleaned that Drizzt & Elminister are still around (the Elminister reference is from a blog or some Q&A session with WOTC staffers) in this post Spellplague world. Who knows how many other NPCs...

    Playtesting?

Yes, you meet the DnDInsider requirement. It has been stated that if you were already a member of the WOTC forums prior to the DnDInsider, you are already a member of DnDInsider (at least until it changes to a 'pay a fee' model).

    Playtesting?

Most likely meaning is that when they announce the playtest on DnDInsider, the applicants must have 1) signed up for DnDInsider 2) have a group ready. These applicants are the 'pool' from which WOTC will select from.

    Playtesting?

Well, I put this out for what it is worth. I just checkout the podcast (Episode 15) that was posted on 7 September and here is some more information gleaned on the playtest. - They will not draw names (good news, so the idea of a random selection of playtesters is out) - playtest is still 'a...

Points of Light and the Forgotten Realms

Here is another quote for the sample chapter that is revealing. Rise of Netheril suggests that the return of the city of Shade is a foreshadowing of some sort of victory of the Shadowvar. Perhaps the Spellplague only affects Weave users, which might be the reason the Shadowvar became...

    Playtesting?

True. Which means if Ashrem Bayle or myself suddenly and abruptly go silent on this thread and on 4E discussion threads in general, then one of us 'is golden'. ;) LOL. Really, our chances are small at best. They are going to get 'thousands' of applications.

    David Noonan on playtesting

As a previous playtester for Malhavoc, I can answer this somewhat. The designer states what he wants playtested. It can be a particular rule, a class at the low end to all the way to a entire 'system' (like Arcana Unearthed/Arcana Evolved). The designer isn't going to dictate when, how and...

Tell me about your best (and worst) campaign endings

Worst campaign ending was in the Return to White Plume Mountain, which I ran as part of a campaign. The party mage cast Mordeinkein's Dysjunction (most of the party was subsumed by the Keraptis virus ath this point) off of a scroll to defend himself from the bad guys and recently 'recruited'...

D&D 4E David Noonan on 4E "Cloudwatching" (Added Dave's newest comment from his blog)

    Playtesting?

This is actually a bit dated but it is from Dave Noonan's blog so I would put it here for the rest of the eager beavers. So, basically, keep checking out DnDInsider for the official proclaimation. Let the waiting resume.... <cue crickets>

    Playtesting?

No. I've been checking DnDinsider, blogs and ENWorld for some sort of information on the playtest and so far, no joy on any further information.

    Opinions sought: Much younger players?

You did all the right things. My group has always had a large spread on age. I'm 51 and right now, the next youngest player in my group is 28 and the ages go down from there. Tell your girlfriend that this game is one that transcends age as long as age isn't an issue for all the gamers...

What do you think so far?

Cautious optimism. I disagree that we 'know' a fair amount. We have glimpses of things and some of those things are being embraced as fact when it is still supposition. More information will come in the days and weeks and months ahead to give a clearer picture but right now, it is like...

    D&D 4E The WotC designers will be bashing 4e once 5e is announced . . .

Don't read too much into those commentaries. Part of it is marketing hype, to convince you, the consumer that 4E will be 'da bomb' . And since they can't reveal too much about 4E right now, the only way to convince you is to point out the problem areas of 3E. The other part is what I call...

Character levelled 1 through 20...have you?

Multiple times for me. I had two 2E characters go to 30th level and that was playing those characters for about 5 years. I've had a few others go to 20th. I have had three characters go epic in 3.x. One in an adhoc campaign loosely based on the WOTC quasi-adventure path with its first 3.0...

    Do you play online D&D?
