    D&D 4E 4e - More monsters per encounter?

My sentiments exactly. D&D should return all the ingredients from GURPS:Vehicles' kitchen and start shopping at Spirit-of-the-Century Mart.

Ryan Dancey on Redefining the Hobby (Updated: time elements in a storytelling game)

What about something like Arkham Horror? I've been meaning to pick it up for a while, and I'd love to hear your opinion of it.

Ryan Dancey on Redefining the Hobby (Updated: time elements in a storytelling game)

I'm still only on page 3, and this quote is from page 2, but I just wanted to say that I almost made the same comment in almost the same format. Although, Dragonhelm's mention of "products of your imagination" has got me thinking... Edit: And, of course, Buzz went and greatly expanded upon...

I Can't Turn Off the RPGNow Bookshelf

I receive the following error message when I try to turn off My RPGNow BookShelf: Warning: fopen(http://...@hotmail.com) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: No route to host in /shop/functions_rpgnow.php on line 142 Unable to open remote file. I'll try jaerdaph's workaround. Edit: I get...

    Screen names and first impressions

For the longest time, I thought that "Zoatebix" was the word for "cow fodder" in some made-up language from a miniatures game that my big sister's high school boyfriend liked. He thought it sounded cool, and I thought it sounded cool, and I adopted it as an internet handle back in 1993, 4, or...

    Grapple Question

Does D&D even have a component of "midieval" anymore?

I've lost the post now, but someone up-thread said something about "going medieval". I never thought that "killing things and taking their stuff" was particularly characteristic of the Medieval (a la capital R Romance), the Wild West, or even Epics - though a lot of passages from The Hobbit...

Does D&D even have a component of "midieval" anymore?

Well said! That's enough to make me want to break out my dice right now. I totally dig this post, too. I wish I were around last week so I could have discussed in a more timely manner.

Does D&D even have a component of "midieval" anymore?

Here's an example - Alice Chaucer, Geoffrey's granddaughter, was a Duchess. The poet's parents were pretty well off but still middle-class, and before that there doesn't seem to be much goin' on. Still, going from obscurity to duchess in 4 or 5 generations isn't half bad. Not quite D&D speed...

Star Wars Saga RPG: Square Book? WTF

I do like the digest-size format that a lot of indie-RPGs use, and the trade-paperback-size that GoO used for The Authority but I haven't seen the new Star Wars book so I can't comment on it. What are its dimensions again?

Would Hasbro be better off without D&D?

I swear that I've seen the D&D brand mentioned in some Hasbro press or marketing copy in the last six months, but without the time to track down whatever it was that gave me that impression...

Besides fantasy, what genre would you like to roleplay in?

    Reading that made my day!

    What is your icon?

It's not really "on earth" when it's being the fastest, though. My avatar is the portrait sprite of Cecil after he becomes a paladin in Final Fantasy IV.

    The "orc baby" paladin problem

I would SO play in your Law and Order: D&D game.

So when should a publisher ditch d20 and develop their own system?

I'm curious about this as well. I'm just a whipper-snapper and I'm rather interested in learning the history of my hobby. So does Ghostbusters by WEG and the mechanic for how a ghostbuster recovers brownie points count as theme-focused rule that predates Vampire's humanity? Does early Ars...

Grappling For Beginners: How To Strike, Hold & Throw

Point taken! The thing that my GM noticed in play when we started using your rules was that my character would have to roll a 1 to fail when tripping some strongish medium creatures, whereas they had a fighting chance (+6 them vs +13 me) under the core rules.
