Two things that come to mind:
Meeting Xath, The Universe, Archon, and Queen D and playing a fun game of Midnight with them (though I am sorry that they didn't end up playing the storyline they really wanted to).
Playing Survivor: Zombie Island at 11:00pm-4:00am on Saturday night. What a game...
I wasn't planning on picking them up, but then saw them at GenCon and caved.
All I can say is, holy crap, the Vampire book is huge! It's going to take me forever to get through this stuff.
Holy crap! Lots of people have their panties in a bunch!
My two cents (mind you, fair market value is considerably less) is this:
Don't fight about it. Read people's criticisms (yeah, even the jerks) and try to implement good ideas and ignore bad ideas next year.
These are the ENnies, not...
Of course! It's got to be the best place at the con to pick up chicks!
;)
I kid..... something tells me my wife would have something to say about that. I actually would go, as it's a topic that interests me... but I have a game scheduled at that time that I REALLY want to play.
Holy crap... 3 pages... I figured this thread would go more or less untouched.
I have to clarify a bit. I'm not at all offended by having 3E bashed. I liked 2E and earlier versions, and I like 3E. I think I was more bothered by the small chunk of the conversation that I quoted in my first...
Uggg... this is a rant, and may or may not be worth reading as such.
I was actually referred to as a 3tard today by old-school D&D/Hackmaster fans.
It has been my experience that people who still play 2e/1e and say that 3/3.5 is not "real D&D" are not only quite frequently real jerks, but also...
And remember, just because you're the GM doesn't mean that this is just your problem. If other players are bothered by this guy's actions, they have just as much responsibility as you to talk to him about it.
Don't let yourself be forced to be the "bad guy" because others won't speak up.
So, basically, there aren't really good deals to be found at GenCon? FOr example, if I want a copy of Pirate's Cove (the board game) I'm probably better off buying it now, rather than waiting for the con, as I'll just be paying MSRP there anyway?
Again, Chimera, you're talking about someone who is playing to specifically be disruptive and rude. That's a completely different situation than someone who just plays differently (role-playing vs. roll-playing). A good friend is always more important than the game. But you're not talking...
I still have to disagree with you, Chimera. Again, we have no evidence that we're talking about someone being disruptive... just someone who plays differently.
But either way, I'm not going to keep arguing this, because we're totally derailing the thread. What I will leave it with is that...
We're not talking about a physical impediment here. And even if we were, if your friend lost his hands in a car accident and couldn't roll dice very easily, so he slowed the game down, yes... you'd be a bad person for asking him to leave the game.
And a friend with such physical imediments...
I feel the need to follow my last comment with the addition:
I don't mind being told what class to play if the group is being handed pre-generated characters, however.
Yeah... it was probably assumed, but I thought I'd add it just in case.
