    D&D 5E (2014) Magic Item Inheritance

Dearest kin, I am dead. Hence this will. I leave to you my magical sword of hurting and several thousand gold pieces. Knowing that you share my blood, I recognize that you would never willingly accept a handout, even from one you loved such as I. As such I have ensured my legacy is situated in...

Sadly, pretty much - 'cept with baggage and goods

D&D 5E (2014) Monster Races and a quick sword thrust at the gate

In our current collection of one shots (that's dangerously close to becoming a campaign), we have lizardmen as slaves (the degenerated ancestors of the now-extinct Dragonborn). They are captured, kept docile with tranquilising brews and trained for various domestic tasks, from farming to...

D&D 5E (2014) Disarming a caster's component pouch to prevent him from casting spells

Hmm. As a held action, and then at disadvantage? Sure, I'd go with knocking the components (not the pouch) out of the hand - Small object, brief window of opportunity. Of course, as using the pouch doesn't require an action, the caster can simply pull out some more bat poop, kitten fluff...

D&D 5E (2014) Magic Item Sheets / Gender Specific by Tarouge

Having a looksee, I believe he means male and female character images. So no difference between them with regards to magical item placement - only a rather buff looking male model and a gifted female model for the the player to choose between.

D&D 5E (2014) Wait... why are we adventuring together?

Recently, we decided to run a few sessions where we cut all pretense of constructing an organic, 'natural' narrative and gunned for something simple and direct. It's worked really well - while serving to free up the players to focus on 'getting stuff done' (killing things, rescuing folks...

D&D 5E (2014) Would you like a 5e video game akin to Neverwinter Nights & Neverwinter Nights 2?

Divinity Original Sin 2 is a worthy successors to NWN. Sure, under the hood it doesn't use the D&D system, but it still works on the basis of hit points, armour, weapon damage and the like. It also has a DM (GM?) mode with is fairly flexible. Sword Coast Legends was an abomination.

D&D 5E (2014) Do you prefer to fight with melee or ranged weapons?

Melee for the most part, with generous DM support and maximum smashiness. Table flipping, defenestration, and fireballs. Fireball is a CQC attack.

    D&D 5E (2014) Considering a new concentration mechanic

Other than taking damage (and of course, casting another spell that requires concentration and being KO'd/killed), the PHB suggest physically demanding events as ones where a caster might lose concentration from failing a check. So unless that sudden, booming bang is loud enough to cause...

    Yuan-Ti rituals?

The rituals all involve hours upon hours of endless twerking to upbeat music. Terrifying.

    D&D 5E (2014) That’s a lot of charcoal! Find Familiar problem

Perhaps it''s charcoal made from some rather pricey wood/substance! Though to be fair, the 10 gp cost isn't just for the charcoal - it also includes incense and herbs (...that must be consumed within a brass brazier). So perhaps the herbs and incense are the components that bump the price up...

    D&D 5E (2014) What makes a good Lancer?

There's also a feat in one of the UA's for spears. http://media.wizards.com/2016/downloads/dnd/ua-feats-v1.pdf

D&D 5E (2014) Come out and put yourself on the Gygax scale!

I'm far too fickle for this. Somewhere between, and including, G1 and G6, depending on my whim, the game, the people at the table and whatever movie/game/real life event is on my mind.

D&D 5E (2014) The "Powergamers (Min/maxer)" vs "Alpha Gamers" vs "Role Play Gamers" vs "GM" balance mismatch "problem(s)"

Ah, but you see, it's not about playing the game - it's about making the character. Can the player take a hit from the optimal in order to support something else - fluff/narrative/etc that supports the role they wish to portray/explore/present. I agree with @Satyrn that grouping folks rarely...

D&D 5E (2014) Gaming with children without changing the game (much)

Never game with children or animals! Ok, fine, Kids can be great to game with - brutal, mercenary, utterly ruthless, but fun. Pandas though? Laaaaaaazy. And munchkins at heart.

D&D 5E (2014) The "Powergamers (Min/maxer)" vs "Alpha Gamers" vs "Role Play Gamers" vs "GM" balance mismatch "problem(s)"

The acid test is: Would the player take a sub-optimal option/make a sub-optimal build choice in favour of adding fluff/flavour to their character. To my mind, if a player can do this then they're a role-player first and foremost. If the can't make that choice then I'd term them a power-gamer...
