    D&D 5E (2014) WotC's Jeremy Crawford on D&D Races Going Forward

But who had no love (or patience) for the fancy words and sweet tongues of the so-called "civilized" folks! You'd probably see Ascalante bragging about his Aquilonian ancestry where Conan would not lose his time trying to explain to you why Crom made the Cimmerian of such a sturdy stock. ;)

    D&D 5E (2014) WotC's Jeremy Crawford on D&D Races Going Forward

It's more about the words used than their actual meaning. As I said above, ancestry sounds like the kind of word that Conan would only get right the third time. But I'm no native speaker, always important to remember.

    D&D 5E (2014) WotC's Jeremy Crawford on D&D Races Going Forward

Didn't know that. As a non-native English speaker, BW was the first time I saw "stock" applied as a substitute for genetic origin. As I said above, I simply found it short, direct, and the kind of word people would use in a fantasy setting, almost the opposite of "ancestry", which is long...

    D&D 5E (2014) WotC's Jeremy Crawford on D&D Races Going Forward

That's where I am on the issue as well. Understand the problem with "race" but find "ancestry" or "heritage" to be two very ugly substitutes (and if you think ancestry sounds bad in English, know that it hurts my ears more when translated to my native Portuguese). Personally, I like Burning...

D&D 5E (2014) People didn't like the Psionic Talent Die

What I got from it was that people didn't like it as a subsystem, not that it was difficult to grok. If the majority of the feedback in fact was about it being a complicated mechanic, then we have a real problem here. The psionic die is easier to track than superiority dice or bardic inspiration...

D&D 5E (2014) People didn't like the Psionic Talent Die

I consider that battle lost since they dropped the mystic, really. The psionic die was just the moribund having that small health improvement some days/hours before dying. Different from many people here, I love the third-party material I have, intend to purchase more of it, and I'm working on...

D&D 5E (2014) People didn't like the Psionic Talent Die

Not at all. When Crawford tells us that his audience believes that the psionic die mechanic is too much, all you have to support that those same people would greenlight the warlock today is pure faith. The current player base is clearly not interested in anything that works on a different base...

D&D 5E (2014) People didn't like the Psionic Talent Die

Really? I agree about 1e (though it got support from Dragon, that 5e, unfortunately, also lacks), but I find both Original and Rules Cyclopedia D&D to be, each within its respective context and microcosm, much more mechanically instigating than 5e.

Why the warlock, but not the warlord or a psionic class?

Calling what we have now, six years into the edition's lifecycle, a quite full roster of interesting options, is kind of an overstatement. I don't know if any other D&D edition was starving for new mechanics like 5e at this point in their respective cycles.

D&D 5E (2014) People didn't like the Psionic Talent Die

Not at all. It's been six years. According to the people who own the game, it received and continues to receive a huge influx of new players, probably the biggest influx in its history. 5e was forged on the feedback of people who played D&D before it but it's pretty reasonable to say that...

All evidence point for that to be just wishful thinking on your part.

Do you all understand that the monk, the warlock, and maybe even the Battle Master fighter would probably never see print now that three subclasses and a feat using a different dice mechanic are too far away from the core to deserve consideration by the player base, right?

D&D 5E (2014) People didn't like the Psionic Talent Die

Side note: I DMed 3e and Pathfinder after it. Had some "broken" builds appearing at our tables, but no Hulking Hurler. Most characters that I'd rate as unfair were spellcasters created with nothing but the PHB. That said, I've yet to see something destroy our fun as much as a 4th-level variant...

D&D 5E (2014) People didn't like the Psionic Talent Die

You're wrong according to their own rules on how to calculate CR. Replacing identify with shield in the archmage's list of prepared spells will, by itself, raise its CR by 1. As an 18th level spellcaster who will probably live for about 4-5 rounds, the archmage can cast shield "on cooldown"...

D&D 5E (2014) People didn't like the Psionic Talent Die

This statement is not only at odds with 5e's fame of making good use of natural language, it contradicts the definition of a deadly encounter provided by the DMG:

To each its own, I guess, but in my own experience running 5e since before official release, that's just wrong. I own the Monster Manual, Volo's, Mordenkainen's, the Creature Codex, and the Tome of Beasts, and I've found that the probability of a hard/deadly encounter actually being hard/deadly...

D&D 5E (2014) People didn't like the Psionic Talent Die

My biggest issue with third-party relates to compatibility. I don't want a psionics system, I want a psionics system that will be used if the Dark Sun book ever happens or that Keith Baker will use for his Sarlona sourcebook. Balance and consistency are things, obviously, but they're not reasons...

D&D 5E (2014) People didn't like the Psionic Talent Die

Except for the fact that they do get some of the strongest offensive cantrips in the game. Heck, consider the fact that most enemies after a certain level rely more on natural/heavy armor then high Dex and you soon realize that "sacred flaming" is much more reliable than attacking, even better...

D&D 5E (2014) People didn't like the Psionic Talent Die

As a fellow support player, I can feel the pain. It's kind of bad that your main option almost every round is just to cantrip them into some damage instead of getting to do what you really want to do. I'm tired of saying "I cast sacred flame" at this point. When I say I'm tired of playing the...
