4E combat grind but not boring

I cant' speak for myself as I'm yet to play long periods of time as a player do think whether or not I like the "grind". However, more and more I realize that the "grind" encounters are the ones that my players like better. I usually run non-important, easy and fast encounters and for them...

The Grind Problem (My 2 Cents)

Negative. If a DM sets up a given encounter, as described on the DMG, to adjust for a 3 PCs group, they'll have a much easier time going through it then a 5 PCs group facing an encounter built up for a 5 PCs group. That happens because as a DM you'll have a much cheaper budget to work with...

Dragon 370 - Riven Justice: The Mercykillers

OK, so I'm curious as I don't have a DDI subscription. They called it playtest. Do they say on the article for what product it's getting published/getting the full thing? Regarding the Deva speculation, I remember there was an adventure on a Dungeon Magazine featuring a female NPC with a...

German publisher of D&D 4E won't renew contract

Well, at least there in Germany you already got the core books translated and published. Meanwhile, here in Brazil, the people responsible for it still can't decide whether or how they're going to translate Warlord...

    4e & Internet Sales

Depends mostly on the prices. Back in june when I bought the 4e gift set (via Amazon) I paid roughly 55% of the price I'd spend had I bought it at my FLGS. Then I also bought FR Campaign Setting, FR Player's Guide and AV, although back then the price was already a bit higher... Today the...

Keep on Shadowfell - 3 players

I once ran KotS with 3 PCs, and it went quite well. I had also a group quite similar to the one you have there (in terms of roles and playstyle): Eladrin Fighter (Spear + Shield) Eladrin Warlord (Tactical) Eladrin Ranger (Archer) It is worth noting though that I ran Kobold Hall prior to KotS...

    Am I doing it wrong?

As long as your players don't get the feeling that they're unchallenged and that no matter what they do they'll always live to see another day, I don't think you're doing anything wrong.

    Playtest: The Druid (merged)

Hum... Slowing and Sliding people with Opportinuty Attacks seems rather sexy to me. Yeah, I guess theoretically they could make some interesting pseudo-Defenders, more than that, only seeing them playing in game to make a judgement.

    Playtest: The Druid (merged)

I found it rather amusing that right now, the best Guardian Druids (stat-wise) are the Dwarves. Oh, and Booming Blade from the Swordmage followed by Storm Spike from the druid. To move or not to move?

    What is missing from 4E

What is missing from 4e? Rules. Rules are missing from 4e, although, I don't miss them, at all.

Help a DM stop killing his players

Dunno, maybe try giving them advices ingame, as whether it's a good idea to use certain ability or not (Dailies, for instance), also, keep reminding them about Action Points and Second Wind and such. It's quite easy to get lost in the beginning and just rely on At-Wills to avoid confusion...

Do you like XP costs for magic item creation?

As far as comparisons goes, I think it should work somewhat like Negative Levels, and not Level Drain.

Manual of the Planes Excerpt: Shadowfell

YES! And it wouldn't be a bad idea if said alternative rules would match current year's Campaign Setting mood/style. That's somehow comforting, way to go Ari!

The Druid makes me chew the furniture

4 days ... What am I expecting? Hell, at this point I'm more than anything else expecting to be surprised. I don't really care if they're gonna be Shapeshifting Strikerish type or if they're Weather Mages, as long as they're interesting and different from the stuff we already have, with cool...

What did you never like in 3e?

Level Adjustment and Multiclassing (Because it was too easy to screw your character, for good or for worse).

The Druid makes me chew the furniture

We've seen bards getting their own personal exclusive Rituals, it wouldn't be too weird if Druids could get their own as well, which could/should include (but not be limited to) utilitary shapeshifting. 5 Days and counting...

    4e cosmology and old settings

I'm very confident that they'll start presenting Psionics next July or so through Dragon Magazine Playtest articles. By now, their hands are probably itching to show us or tell us some stuff about Psionics. And besides, when you look back at when they showed us the playtest for the Artificer...

Why are we all goblin sharpshoters level 2? What does it mean?

That's you! See, I knew I was right (well, apparently partially).

Why are we all goblin sharpshoters level 2? What does it mean?

Sorry to disappoint you Mr. Morrus, but I actually think it was MerrikB ( I could be wrong tho) :p

Why are we all goblin sharpshoters level 2? What does it mean?

I think I saw a Gnoll Huntmaster (lvl 5) somewhere.
