Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

It might be faster to go in the other direction though, since it’s reverting to original colouration. But if we are being sciency, a red star emits a lower proportion of its energy in the UV part of the spectrum, even if it’s a giant, so paler skin might still be beneficial to produce...

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

On Hope vs. Grimdark: In Game of Thrones, trying to do the right right thing and make the world better often, rather than just failing, actually made things worse for people. Perhaps more apropos to early D&D, Elric had this happen to him a lot. In D&D, this takes the form of "gotcha" decisions...

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

That's more to do with the way campaigns were run back then. If the DM bought an adventure, they would drop it into their ongoing campaign. And if the adventure required a different setting, you transported the PCs to that setting (and generally home again once the adventure was complete).

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

That was how things were generally done in those days. And why people who remember those days don't agree - they all created their own versions of the setting, and assumed everyone else's version was the same, as they had no way of knowing otherwise.

D&D 5E (2014) How do you run a game in Ravnica?

A good example of why metaplot is so terrible. It's best to assume the timeline does not advance, and campaigns always start in the same year zero, as Eberron does. But in this case, no reason to assume any familiarity with Ravnica (MTG). Ravnica (D&D) is it's own thing, for doing modern urban...

D&D 5E (2014) How do you run a game in Ravnica?

The novel I read was a police procedural (rather like the movie Bright). It was quite good, and would work as a RPG set up. Generally, I would look at cyberpunk type scenarios. Could convert stuff from Shadowrun. The adventures in Keys from the Golden Vault would suit the setting.

It’s a level thing I think. The CRPGs went up to level 20+, but most tabletop games rarely got over level 9. Levelling was much slower.

Not to mention a subclass dedicated to the reckless destruction of the environment. I can’t see that going down well with my group. Well I guess by red lighting this, I can get some measure of revenge for the murder of my dragonriding PDK.

What videogames are you playing in 2025?

Instead of the rather dull and contrived Ahsoka series we could have had a game were you play as Thrawn trying to get a wrecked Chimera back home after the Purgil ride.

D&D General In 2025 FR D&D should PCs any longer be wary of the 'evil' humanoids?

It seems likely that early humans (and cousins) were very tribal, and, like chimps, regularly fought each other, but would generally accept unaccompanied females into the tribe.

D&D General In 2025 FR D&D should PCs any longer be wary of the 'evil' humanoids?

The people of Krynn are too busy trying to avoid kender to worry about minotaurs.

What videogames are you playing in 2025?

Voyager does seem like an unlikely proposition. It was never all that popular even in its day. Simply doing a Star Trek game with an original ship that is lost would seem a better idea. Mulgrew seems keen to revisit the role though, I think she feels she was short changed in the script...

D&D General In 2025 FR D&D should PCs any longer be wary of the 'evil' humanoids?

That kind of depends on your source. The current Monster Manual connects minotaurs to Baphomet, but the still current write up for PC Minotaurs does not (MPMotM). And the first setting to have Minotaur PCs was Dragonlance, where they are definitely unconnected to Baphomet, on account of Baphomet...
