Is Wizards' team also reading this?

While I can't say for certain, I know that ENWorld is one of Trevor Kidd's go-to places for determining the feel of the community. He knows that the overall atmosphere here is very different from that of the WotC forums.

    5e.... D&D Next Playtest OOC - Full

A lot of the reports I have seen have ben people playing without a battlemap. Theatre of the mind-sorta stuff. Yup. Still sending reports to WotC. I have downloaded and aggreed to the rules.

Lists of what I am not allowing will be passed around the room.

This looks like a good time to throw this out again: Critical Hits: Playtest D&D Next like a Pro

Lists of what I am not allowing will be passed around the room.

Unless you are lucky enough to be a designer on an RPG, I suspect that, as a DM, letting your players know what is and what isn't going to be allowed in your game is a normal part of setting up a game, along with telling your players what you expect from them and your players telling you what...

D&D 5E (2014) How WOTC can ensure my support of D&D Next

Of course, what hasn't been mentioned in the thread is that after WotC said that they would be pulling back the licenses, Paizo asked for the date of the final issue to be pushed back so that they could finish up some stuff. WotC, being the evil, soulless corporation that they are, said " Yes...

L&L: The 2nd one this week (DM Packet)

There is an obvious reason for not starting with that. They want to test the basic parts of the game first, before any additional modules are added on. This seems to be more of a problem between the DM and the group that needs to be decided upon *before* they sit down and start playing. It...

L&L: The 2nd one this week (DM Packet)

If the end result is the same, and if the playstyle ends up being identical, does it really matter if it is due to a detailed, complex base of rules, a very loose set of guidelines, or something in between the two extremes??

Where did the drop-down forum menu go??

There used to be a drop-down menu to quickly jump from one forum to another. Was it removed to speed up the forums?

    The Playtest Agreement

But don't forget, that in the law, terms have very specific meanings. Derivative is one of those terms that has a very specific meaning under copyright law and, to the best of my knowledge (IANAL, but I do work in the IP industry on the patent side of things) simply modifying a character or...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e digital offerings?

Wait. What?? Please please, please PM me your WotC userId and the time period for the problem, and I will pass it on to my contact at WotC so that he can do some poking.

    An open letter to WoTC

When WotC designed DDI, and then re-released it, mobile gaming was a very, very small portion of the population, and no-one (except perhaps Apple) thought that it would take off the way that it did. Also, to respond to an earlier poster, when DDI was first designed, Windows 7 was just in the...

    The Playtest Agreement

And I find it very hard to call the WotC playtest "closed". The barrier to entry is laughably low. If you have an email address, and have the ability to fill out the forms to make a WotC account, you can get at the playtest materials.

    The Playtest Agreement

I am not saying that it is inconvenient that they are prohibiting playtesting via online routes. It sure as heck inconveniences me as none of my local group is at all willing to try something new. However, to label it as "onerous" or an example of how WotC views openness/customers (when I can...

    The Playtest Agreement

Don't play online is onerous? Really? I also fail to see how, except for the most hyperbolic claims, it is any sort of statement on "Wizards' stance on openness and towards their customers." We are (counts on fingers) a little over 4 days into a playtest that, by all reasonable estimates, will...

    D&D 5E (2014) Guidelines for D&D Next playtest/adventure discussion here at ENW

I suspect that what we have here is a conflict between the D&D Next team, who want to get this into as many hands as possible, and a legal team that is uber-paranoid and wanting to (as is their job) protect the IP (and WotC and Hasbro) legally as much as possible. I *suspect* (with no evidence...
