    D&D 3.x Why 3.5 Worked

I was just thinking about this (as I stated before-going through all the demon stats in the MM's- in particular I was looking at Marilith in each edition). In 3.0 she also had about 15 at will spells to reference in the PHB.

What system for Dracula as horror?

P.S. That looks awesome- I'll have to check it out.

What system for Dracula as horror?

BRP/COC is the obvious. Hunter: The Reckoning Chill Ravenloft- using the DoD book(?) where PC's are residents of the domains and not S&S characters trapped by the mists. And didn't TSR do a Gothic period box as well? Beyond the Supernatural Monster of the Week Revised (tone down the playbooks...

    Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2E's reception?

This was in the D&D forum earlier. As to the ? At hand. I wasn't invited to the reception, I heard everyone was tanked and the best man vom'ed all over the flower girl's shoes.

    D&D 5E (2014) Removing the HP Bloat

Here is your easy solution :) I like your system, but I think there are easier ways to handle it in more modern D&D systems- It's mostly on the DM side of the screen so players do not feel like they are "losing" anything AND players tend to like it better because they feel like badasses...

D&D General What if Hit Points were the currency of the game rules?

I wasn't thinking of "converting" 5E to this- but rather an (imaginary) new edition of D&D that would utilize the concept. And obviously there would have to be some tweaks/rules so players wouldn't game the system.

    D&D 3.x Why 3.5 Worked

Yep. The game within the game. Gaming the system. System Mastery. Builds. Optimization. Whatever you want to call it. This is 3.x's hallmark. I understand wanting to have a competent character, but when your mechanical choices don't do anything to add to the in game fiction-and instead are just...

    D&D 3.x Why 3.5 Worked

Running and playing are two completely different things. 3.x drove me away from D&D (3.5 was the nail in the coffin), 4E brought me back. I was actually rolling through all the editions Monster Manuals last night (1E, OD&D,2E,3E,PF1,PF2,4E,5E,13A) comparing high level creatures (like Demons...

D&D General What if Hit Points were the currency of the game rules?

It is not meant as actual currency- I should have used quotes around the word. Since HP represent grit, luck, endurance- they would fuel your class abilities- not used for purchasing equipment (see The Black Hack RPG for some other cool ways of tracking/using Inventory i.e. the usage die) Not...

Pathfinder 2E It's Finally Here! The Pathfinder 2E Review

This was an issue on Paizo's own streamed play sessions in Oblivion Oath. Combat slowed to a crawl even at low levels when it came to more than a few opponents or a big boss and some minions. The curse of "options", and "character depth" The more intricate and numerous the rules/options get-...

D&D General What if Hit Points were the currency of the game rules?

A few months ago, I came across a Dungeon World hack that was designed for Kids and people new to RPGs The "Dungeons RPG" free download can be found HERE . It has proven itself in providing a non intimidating RPG experience for my wife and young daughter where other games such as very basic...

Pathfinder 2E Something about PF2's Art Bothers Me

I'm not a general fan of most Paizo art when it comes to the Iconics and people/humanoids of any sort (though scenes/landscapes are usually wonderful) That said, I think the second edition core book, by far, looks nicer than the PF1 core book which was poorly laid out, difficult to use a s a...

OD&D Basic/BECMI/BX D&Ds and where to find them

The best values for OSR rules sets in print are: Whitebox:FMAG Basic Fantasy RPG Iron Falcon These are all available for free in PDF, and you can have your local print shop print them if it's cheaper. For actual rule books: POD of the Rules Cyclopedia AD&D and Second Edition AD&D corebooks...

    D&D 5E (2014) What’s the highest level character you’ve played in 5E?

None of them work very well for WOTC editions or PF1 (yes, 3E is the worst) . It as much a learning curve as TSR editions. I'm not a fan of the entire concept of CR and I am all for dropping it from the game. But I had the best luck with 4E for D&D proper (no upper paragon or epic play). 13th...

    D&D 5E (2014) What’s the highest level character you’ve played in 5E?

If I have to run a lot of encounters to figure it out and then change it significantly to work for my group, the system is whacked-right out of the package.

Genres/Settings I enjoy watching but not playing in. You?

Are you one of those people I tried to play Supers with?

Genres/Settings I enjoy watching but not playing in. You?

Sci Fi- I love Star Wars, but "hard" Sci Fi- Traveller, Alternity, Star Trek..it's always short lived. Supers- I COULD get into , but most people are so much more into the newer genre and versed in comics and lore from more modern ages. I stopped reading them circa 1984 or so. I'm into Golden...

Pathfinder 2E What's the deal with 3rd party PF2E Adventure "support"??

It did explode quickly. Wizards had dropped the books at the cheap prices for the first print run, and immediately had to print more. There were several products out on release of the PHB from 3PP. By the next spring it was steamrolling And Wizards was also pushing out all kinds of new D20...

    D&D 5E (2014) What’s the highest level character you’ve played in 5E?

I don't play generally- But I ran a game with three level 15 PCs. CR is whacked- Had to fudge way too much.
