D&D 5E (2014) Official D&D Greek-Themed 'Mythic Odysseys of Theros' Setting Coming In May

HR (Historical Reference) series was the lineup with the green covers from 2E. I had the Greek one long ago- it was quite good and IIRC had options to run as Greek "Fantasy" or sticking to a more realistic Greek History game. Drive Thru Link

D&D 5E (2014) Official D&D Greek-Themed 'Mythic Odysseys of Theros' Setting Coming In May

Finally, something interesting. Will be following this closely. For those familiar with it, is this full of "furries" for PC races?

POLL: Greatest "Golden Era" Module for D&D.

Not necessarily. My "greatest" picks would probably go for the adventures that really helped to define the game- one of which is hotly contested by fans and haters as a "great" adventure: Tomb of Horrors. Keep on the Borderlands as the blueprint for starting a campaign and sandboxey play. The G...

POLL: Greatest "Golden Era" Module for D&D.

Absolutely, and fwiw, none of the modules I picked as faves are modules I would pick as greatest.

POLL: Greatest "Golden Era" Module for D&D.

I think here you have a list of groundbreaking game defining adventures intermingled with some "just good" adventures. For example, S1 vs N1 I picked my faves. There are too many greats when limited to 5 choices.

The Sort of TTRPGs You Want More (and Less) Of

Totally agreed that the game needs some tweaking, but I believe the overall play merits far outweigh the cleanup needed. And also totally agree with you on the lack of FAGE support. With Owen K.C Stephens now heading up the line (last I heard), I am hopeful we will see more FAGE materials.

    D&D 5E (2014) Is 5e the Least-Challenging Edition of D&D?

No assumed amount of encounters per day works/worked just fine in T/OSR versions of the game 🤷 The DM learns how to tailor the game to his playstyle and group and it part of the DM's role. Conversely the WOTC versions seem to feel the need to tailor the DM and group to their playstyle.

    D&D 5E (2014) Is 5e the Least-Challenging Edition of D&D?

Not exactly- I'm saying the game should not assume X amount of combat, and design the game and PC's abilities around X amount of combat- with very specific rules. In typical D&D where classes all have their own little set of internal rules to "refresh"- per short rest, per long rest. and there...

D&D 3.x Jonathan Tweet: Third Edition and Per-Day Spells

Sadly this has become the issue again in D&D, where a huge step was taken back in design. Even as a huge Gygax disciple and someone who started playing in the 70s, I'd prefer Vancian casting to go the way of the dodo or receive some heavy modification (like Spellcasting Checks instead of...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is 5e the Least-Challenging Edition of D&D?

I'm not concerned with level appropriateness, I'm speaking about an arbitrary # of encounters per day as a rule-instead of telling DM's to run how much or little combat as appropriate/wanted that is story/fictionally appropriate for the game as run at the individual DM's tables. Some will...

I'm interested in all of them.

    D&D 5E (2014) Is 5e the Least-Challenging Edition of D&D?

IMO, No other class should outshine the Fighter at his own game. Classes are for niche protection. Otherwise lets play RQ. Also from a realistic/verisimiltude standpoint I believe as a melee combatant I would rather have 5 feet of blade in front of me chopping that thing in half easily...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is 5e the Least-Challenging Edition of D&D?

IMO- a magic item/certain type of weapon should always give you something extra- They shouldn't be mandatory to make you un-suck. E.g. Bludgeon rule vs. skeletons over the editions- Previous editions if you don't have a bludgeoning weapon you suck or are pretty useless- maybe don't even do...

The Sort of TTRPGs You Want More (and Less) Of

The Fantasy Age Companion throws out several ideas to combat the issues you mention. Most of them were pretty simple fixes as I recall (capping HP at a certain character level for example). I think it would address most of your issues (and I suspect the Companion material- or some of it anyway-...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is 5e the Least-Challenging Edition of D&D?

books are books, games are games. I agree with your sentiment though. When gaming the system is the design intent- story and verisimilitude suffer. This is an area where D&D has made little progress.Add any limitation, a new subsystem is created to curtail it. 3.5 is the prime example. No cold...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is 5e the Least-Challenging Edition of D&D?

For my tastes they should have just made this a "normal" or "default" encounter. :mostly rhetorical: What's the point of combat if it's not deadly? Why bother with encounters that are there just for XP boosters or to fit the "minimum # of encounters per day". It's fine in OD&D where you can...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5 Years in: Concentration

It's a band-aid for a balance issue that was pretty much solved in the last edition, but. BTB it is clunky balancing mechanic- but I'm no big fan of Vancian Casting so I'd prefer the whole system get thrown out in the next edition (I can feel all the people on the board who play casters...
