D&D 4E Rich Baker on 4e Realms changes

I haven't read the realms novels or played in FR in 7 years or so. However, the 3E Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting was exceedingly well done and really did not have any of the "percieved" issues. The setting is so vast that almost any type of campaign could be run in it. As for 4E FR, people...

Sounds like the same as slapping on a template.

    Even more Mike Mearls

No- the point is defeating your enemy not necessarily killing him or bringing down his hit points. All of the above noted often leads to the opponent surrendering- there are other ways to this also, including the use of diplomacy and scheming, none of which have anything to do with hit points.

    What would Gary do?

Please do refrain from dogpiling on people who are not here to defend themselves and do contribute a lot to these boards and also have a lot more experience on matters. There is a specific topic and a question being asked here; something that has little to do with what you think is cool or not...

A Thread For Those Somewhere In The Middle

QFT. I will wait till the product is released and then gauge the public opinion as well as how well it all hangs together. I am not even really sure why I am confused, but every thing I have read so far has deepend my confusion. I am not even sure if what I just wrote makes any sense.

    Elven Tournament

I have an elven moot for my game that I'm designing. I need help designing an archery contest along with any other cool ideas that people can help me with. Thank you for your time and feedback.

    Give me choices!

All the half-Orcs played that I know of were for role play reasons including half orc paladins and a half orc mage.

    Give me choices!

I'd love to see the party with a warlock, wizard, sorcerer and rogue.

    Give me choices!

So how exactly are halflings any different? They are short humans, they even look like short humans, or overweight short humans. And dwarves, they are overweight short humans with bad tempers and beards. The only distinction is the +2 con, really.

    Give me choices!

So is this a prediction that 4E will not "require" certain core builds?

    Give me choices!

So giving up an attack to use spells is "allowing someone else to have fun at your expense?" OK, I guess then all classes should be fully self sufficient and be able to do everything. Oh wait, what's the point of having a party? So a paladin who forgoes his attack, even to his own jeapordy to...

    Give me choices!

How exactly is eliminating a race distinct? especially if it's going to be in a future handbook? Why does gnomes have an identity crisis? How were classes in previous editions less meaningful? I really don't get " your action isn't just allowing someone else to have fun at your expense," part...

    D&Ders: Medical Doctors, Lawyers, Accountants.

I am an accountant; albeit more of a forensic consultant. I have gamed with 3 lawyers, 3 doctors and a varied assortment of IT managers.

    Jonathan Tweet denounces Power Attack

Well said. I am unsure as to how power attack is complex compared to situational terrain based modifiers, situational conditional based modifiers, situational terrain based modifiers triggered by conditional based modifiers, situational character abilities that impact monster modifiers and ....

Did any DM actually RUN the FR that way?

Agreed; then why worry about these NPC's going away, if they are pretty useless for campaigns anyway? If you weren't using them before, why is it an issue if they are not in the setting all together. If a "good GM" (whatever than means) is so bothered with this change, he can put all the uber...

Did any DM actually RUN the FR that way?

It's not a matter of good GMing or not, but a matter of plausability. Example: "Players go after Evil Warlord Blug Blug, a mid level bad guy, to save the town. GM runs it without any of the uber guys. Player wise ass quips up- so, why can elminister/chosen/ their 20th level apprentices wave...

    Please Brench!

I heard from a reliable insider, whose name rhymes with Erik Noah, that thread deletion is going to be subscription based. Seriously, this is rediculous. We have been able to delete threads for free, but now we have to pay for it? It's couched with "additional functionality and content,"...
