Worlds of Design: How Would You Design For Spelljammer?

I agree that's the most reasonable implementation of Spelljammer. To be honest, in 4e I didn't even think of the 'Astral Sea' as a fresh take on Spelljammer. But you're totally right! "The Plane Above" and "The Plane Below" were also among my favorite supplements for 4e. By putting Spelljammer...

What are you Reading? March 2018 edition

I rather liked it, too, but it sure is way too long and repetitive.

    Game Mechanics And Player Agency

I'm definitely in favor of having 'behavioral mechanics' in a game. If players are creating characters, they should think carefully about what motivates and drives them. This is a crucial information for the GM when trying to present them with adventure hooks they're actually interested in...

Who is the most well known character to you? (Conan, Drizzt, Elric, Geralt)

I think Conan is the best known, thanks to several film adaptations. Driz'zt is probably to known to everyone who knows about D&D. Knowing Elric is probably mostly related to age: I doubt many youngsters know of him. If you're my age, though (40+), you are quite likely to know about Michael...

Where Do They Get Their Literacy?

Well, I think the main reason why most RPGs assume the characters are literate, is because the players are. It keeps things simple. Likewise, the issue of having a multitude of different languages and dialects in a setting is often circumvented by introducing a 'lingua franca'. Realism is...

What are you Reading? March 2018 edition

I've read almost everything written by Dan Simmons. What's unusual about him is that he's equally at home in almost every genre. Some of my favorite novels of his are 'The Hyperion Cantos' (sci-fi), 'Carrion Comfort' (horror), and 'The Terror' (historical/mystery). Some of his more recent works...

How would you roleplay this character? A charismatic but stupid, small, monsterous songsmith.

This reminds me of Deekin Scalesinger from the Neverwinter Nights CRPG. It also reminds me of a highly charismatic orc Swordmaster I once played in Earthdawn. What I enjoyed most about playing him was that he was basically a coward. He was really good at all those fancy moves and fencing, but...

Which Random Generator for Players Would you Use?

The only one I'd be somewhat interested in is the 'shared history'. I usually have a pretty good idea about my own character's background, so I don't need any inspiration for that.

How Pathfinder 2's Resonance Reduces Wand-Spamming; & Comparisons to 5E Discussed

Many of the changes remind more of 4e, to be honest. - Resonance? Quite similar to 4e's restriction on using magic item daily powers. - Lethal/non-lethal damage only depending on the final strike? Exactly as in 4e. - Fixed Hit points - Streamlined skill lists - Dead after failing three saves in...

Pathfinder 2 - Levelling Up, Skills, Feats, Faux Leather, More!

A welcome change. I cannot help to notice, it's something that 4e did, as well...

A Look at the Duerger: Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes Preview

I'm actually quite fond of duerger (is that a typo or the new official plural? It looks right given that it's einherjar/einherjer...). Apart from being one of the 1e races that were likely to have psionic powers, they make really good villains. They're the definition of bleakness. While I don't...

Spelljammer Is Spelljammer Coming To D&D 5E?

Yeah, that were my thoughts, as well. I never had any interest in that setting. It had some cool monsters, though. I didn't mind these...

Check Out The Centaur PC Race From The 5E Midgard Campaign Setting!

Looks good. I like the layout. Reminds me a bit of Free League Publishing's 'Tales from the Loop'. I'm just not sure why this is called Midgard. It doesn't appear to be a setting based on Nordic Myths, nor does it appear to have any connection with the Midgard RPG. Confusing.

A look at Dragons Conquer America with Carlos Gomez Quintana

Incredible artwork! I've just been checking the kickstarter page: no mention of the artists?! Unbelievable. I'd guess if this thing gets financed it will be mainly because of the artwork. So, that's a rather strange omission.

Pathfinder 2 Updates -- How Big Should The Bestiary Be? New Initiative System? ... And Other Stories

I'd approve of a bigger monster manual. It's always disappointing if some of the staple iconic monsters couldn't be fit it. I definitely prefer it over having to buy two or three monster manuals. Oh, and vomiting is now an action? Interesting, I guess...

    What are you listening to?

A good list! I was pleasantly surprised by the announcement of the release date for A Perfect Circle's new album. Can't wait! It almost gives me hope that maybe we'll also live to see the release of the new Tool album ... (this year, pretty please?!) The music magazine I've been subscribing to...
