Do We Still Need "Oriental Adventures"?

At the time I rather liked 'Oriental Adventures'. It was a fresh take on standard fantasy settings. To be honest I never cared if it was an accurate portrayal of asian culture and myth or not. This is still D&D after all! I liked the system based on honor better than the standard alignment...

    When Fantasy meets Medieval Europe

    Oh, okay. Nevermind, then.

Can you earn experience points for your comrades?

To me that's a bit of an odd concept, effectively restricting role-playing in ways I wouldn't enjoy. Playing a fighter grown weary of battles, only relying on combat as a last resort? "Not in my game, sir!". Having said that, there's precedent to that line of thinking: In Earthdawn, all player...

    Rules Light/Rules Heavy Graph

Did you have a look at the 'Weight' ratings on RPG Geek? They're on a scale of 1 to 5. The ratings on the Boardgame Geek are quite accurate, I'm not sure how good the RPG equivalent is.

    When Fantasy meets Medieval Europe

Well, historically, magic and spell-casting doesn't really mesh with faith in the Christian God. According to the Bible it's just witch-craft - the Devil's domain. It's one of many reasons why I have trouble to think of D&D as a good basis for a medieval setting that is supposed to be mostly...

Pathfinder 2: Crits, Skills, Scaling, & Proficiencies!

In my opinion they crossed that line. I still bear a grudge because Paizo fixed none of the big issues I had with D&D 3e and even piled more complexity on top! The one thing I've read so far about Pathfinder 2.0 that sounds interesting to me is the 'degrees of success'. The sad thing about it...

The Difficulties Of Running Low Magic Campaigns

That's a good question, and one which I sometimes struggle with myself. E.g. I always think of Ars Magica's Mythic Europe setting as low-magic. Sure, it's a game which focuses on Magic in all its forms and Magi playing a central role. But despite their ability to cast powerful high-level magic...

From 7 Action Types To Pathfinder 2's New 3 Action Economy

Mhm, taken out of context I dislike it. My feeling is that this is incredibly hard to balance properly. That spellcasting is already considered an exception doesn't bode well. They'll have to look really carefully at everything that might affect the action economy: feats, magic items, spell...

D&D, Pathfinder, Core Rules, and the "F" word...

The Pathfinder goblins always remind me of the Gremlins from the 1984 movie by Joe Dante. Personally, I prefer the traditional D&D treatment.

    When Fantasy meets Medieval Europe

Nice effort! But I have to admit, I'd never consider playing anything but Ars Magica in a 'mythic' Europe setting. It's simply the best fit. You get a ton of well-researched background material and the fantastic elements are so well integrated with the historical facts that everything makes sense.

13th Age [5E, 4E] Looking for a 5E/PF/13th Age adventure path to convert to 4E

+1 for Eyes of the Stone Thief! Note, that it's written to cover the mid-range of levels, though. So you get to do some unrelated adventures and foreshadowing before you start with the adventure path.

    Do you practice Thread Necromancy?

Real necromancy is harmless. At least it doesn't harm anyone still alive... I think thread necromancy _can_ be fine. But in most cases it happens unintentionally.

Pathfinder 2E Paizo Announces Pathfinder 2nd Edition!

Well, it's about 10 years late, but maybe, finally, Pathfinder will be what it should have been from the start: a better version of D&D (3e). Except, I doubt it. 10th level spells? Makes me think they'll just repeat their past mistakes. I also feel honestly sorry for everyone who's invested a...
