Solving the "Let's Rob the Magic Shop" Problem

Well you could tell that to the players, but at least in the terms of D&D it would just be an unlawful act, and if I was one of the players we'd get into a serious debate over this. Note that alignments in D&D are one of my pet peeves. I think they're terribly inadequate as a roleplaying tool.

What Do You Mean By "Fun" In Your RPG?

You have a good point there. Enjoyment would probably be a better term to cover the mentioned categories.

Solving the "Let's Rob the Magic Shop" Problem

Ha! That was the first idea that sprang to my mind _if_ you feel a need to actually have magic shops in your campaign. I vastly prefer that all magic items (excepting the most common types of potions) are custom-created to order. Typically, they also only work for the customer or the person...

    Settlers of Fhtagn

I don't think you're the first to come up with this idea: Settlers of the Mountains of Madness. It also reminds me of the custom 'board' I created to replicate the Earth Map of the Cthulhu Wars game:

What Do You Mean By "Fun" In Your RPG?

While I haven't thought about it in such terms yet, except subconsciously, I feel that neither method of categorization is entirely accurate. I think I prefer pen & paper RPGs over all other kinds of games because they check all the boxes, with the exception of a 'mindless pastime'. That last...

    Baby-Faced Jan 2018 Edition!!

I've finished 'The Lies of Locke Lamora' and I'm currently about halfway through the sequel 'Red Seas Under Red Skies' of the 'Gentleman Bastards' series by Scott Lynch. I really enjoyed the former, but the latter isn't quite as compelling so far. I still don't really have a good idea where the...

Netflix show : Dark [Probable spoilers]

I think you should be able to choose the subtitled version or the dubbed version.

We saw a Star War! Last Jedi spoiler thread

Well, it was a Mon Calamari Star Cruiser, after all, not just any ship. IIRC, these things are more expensive and take much longer to build than star destroyers. What did surprise me, though, was that it's apparently possible for a single person to maneuver it. What do they need the dozens or...

    Han Solo movie incoming....

This should be fun. I mean, there's very little known facts about Solo's past, so they have lots of freedom in making the movie. If they're clever, they'll also try for a slightly different tone: Where Rogue One was grittier than the main movies, this one should set a more easygoing mood.

    Altered Carbon

I just had to check if I had already read it. Alas, I haven't. I even seem to have forgotten to put it on my wishlist. I had definitely meant to add it after reading 'Black Man / Thirteen' by the same author which I rather enjoyed. Gotta make up for it right now...

RPG Crowdfunding News 074: Dragon Kings Player’s Rulebook, Changeling The Lost 2nd Edition, Aventuri

Huh, interesting. I didn't realize that Dragon Kings is basically Dark Sun v2.0. Definitely something to watch.

What are you reading? All New / All Improved Dec 2017 Edition.

Depends on the 'nearness' of the future. William Gibson of former cyberpunk fame has written several novels that are set in the present (or in the very near future) and illustrate how current technologies could impact our lives if they were more widely used or just a tiny bit more advanced...

    Is D&D too complicated?

I'm not sure about D&D but since we started a Pathfinder campaign this year, it's becoming increasingly clear that Pathfinder's a too complicated system for our group these days. After playing D&D 4e for several years, we've forgotten most of the D&D 3e rules, and when we look them up, they...

Sci-Fi, space battles and multiple PCs in a single ship

Maybe there's no RPG that uses orbital mechanics, but there's definitely a board game that does: High Frontier It's a thing of beauty, but I agree it's not for the faint of heart:

    One-Liner NPCs

If my players develop an interest in npcs that I didn't have more plans than a 'one-liner' for, they get 'promoted' to 'real' npcs. For that purpose I always have a list of names ready. We're playing an RPG here, not a video game.

fiendish and celestial question d&d 3.5

If you can't find nothing, try looking for something! From the SRD: Also relevant: So, theoretically, a neutral base creature could acquire both templates. It would have to born that way, likely the offspring of a celestial and a fiendish parent (probably of the same base creature type)...
