    Does Detect Evil detect evil?

    Yay for house rules!

    Shunting

Hmm, possibly true. But for the specific use of a 10'x10' solid forcecage, it's moot because instead of passing 5' through it, you can pass 5' diagonally past it and move the same distance by the RAW. If I have squares: 12 34 Moving from 2-3 is the same distance as 2-4, and is therefore just...

    Does Detect Evil detect evil?

It doesn't say that anywhere in the SRD - it states "evil creature". Which does not specifically spell out "creature with an evil alignment" or "creature with the Evil subtype". I figure it depends on how important alignment is in a campaign - if the DM decides that alignment dictates action...

    Shunting

But he's not ethereal - he's solid, because of Morty's Disjunction. Thus the forcecage is identical to stone for the intents and purposes of blocking a solid creature. In the real world, matter cannot occupy the same physical space as other matter. This obviously doesn't apply to the D&D...

    What's the next "Scape" book?

Although I don't think there'd be enough in there to justify an actual hardcover. An issue of Dragon, maybe.

    Does Detect Evil detect evil?

As I interpret the rules, and I think correctly: Joe Human, a fighter with an alignment of Chaotic Evil, will NOT show up on Detect Evil unless he is in the midst of committing an act of evil large enough to make a dent on the landscape (mass sacrifice, etc). Vlad Dookiespiker, a pit fiend...

    Looting and the State

I suppose it depends on WHERE the adventurers are getting this loot, and how they get it. If they're raiding a tomb in eastern Furyondy because they've heard it contains great relics - of COURSE they ought to be taxed, if not arrested for trespassing by the rightful owners of the land the tomb...

    Shunting

Also - the forcecage acts just like solid matter except that it blocks ethereal creatures. However, if the ethereal jaunt is dispelled by Morty's Disjunction, then the scout is no longer ethereal. He becomes solid INSIDE THE WALL and is yanked into an open space, hence why he takes the damage...

    Everything Thieves Guilds Do

A great deal of the concept of a thieves' guild assumes a number of things: 1) Most guilds are formed to consolidate the power and protect the rights of merchants providing a service. Thus a thieves' "guild" can be one in name only, as they provide no service and have no rights. 2) Thus, a...

    Shunting

Okay, imagine this set of 5x5 squares 1234 5678 90ab cdef Forcecage covers 6-7-0-a. 1234 are solid rock. Anywhere that scout is, he can still shunt 5' to open space (5 or 8). Thus, the presence of the forcecage is irrelevant.

    What's the next "Scape" book?

Farmscape? The sourcebook for those ubiquitous Commoners who never seem to get any love? Starscape? Spelljammer 3.5! Nightscape? A sourcebook covering specifically nocturnal adventures and creatures? The ecology of vampires, specific feats for breaking-and-entering, thieves' guilds, incursions...

    DR DMG or MM

I'd say it would, because DR prevents damage from most weapons and natural attacks. A fall would count as bludgeoning damage (generic untyped damage from a flat surface) unless the monster falls on a blade or spike, in which case it's specifically slashing/piercing damage. It makes sense (to...

    DR DMG or MM

Magic such as Magic Missile or Fireball bypasses DR. A +1 longsword would not unless the DR is something like 5/magic, because it's a magic weapon. A +1 longsword would not bypass 5/adamantine or 5/good DR, if I understand the rules correctly.

Toughness - How many hit points to make it worthwhile?

One option I've seen used is that Toughness adds +1 to your CON modifier, solely for the purpose of determining hit points per level. If you interpret the rules that CON increases (due to raising a stat every fourth level) are retroactive for HP gains, then you can work Toughness into there as...

Looking for Group in Kansas City area

As my current gaming group is nearing an end, I've found myself looking for a new group of folks to game with. If anyone in the area is looking to get a game together, or has one that could use an extra player, I'm searching. Looking for a D&D game, but am always open to other systems.

    Describe your most humiliating defeat

GMing this one in an Eberron campaign: The players: Vel (human ranger and expatriate pirate from the Lhazaar Principalities), Corden (rogue, scion of House Orien), Corden's poor cleric companion, and Vanity (Vel's dinosaur companion). Vel and Corden are transporting the body of Aric...

    Abusing Cleave?

Drop doesn't mean "remove from combat". It means dropping them to the ground. So teleport wouldn't work, but a sleep spell might. Perhaps a Spellsword who channels Sleep through their weapon as they attack. The trouble with the RAW is that they leave it unclear - I'd say anything that allows...

    Abusing Cleave?

teleport triggers a cleave? That just doesn't seem right Well, think about it this way - your weapon has a disintegrate effect when it hits. That'd grant you a cleave, yeah? Well, if the target vanishes by some other method, shouldn't it work the same? The enemy is no longer in front of you...

    Abusing Cleave?

Reducing someone to 0 HP or killing them is not the only way to drop an enemy: 1) Your weapon has a quality that drains stats. Many stats when reduced to 0 cause the victim to drop to the ground or become comatose/unresponsive. 2) Your weapon triggers a teleport or dimension door effect...

    D&D terminology pet peeves

and its drizzt (like dri-ts) not drizzit!, ask the author if your confused. Salvatore can't pronounce "drow" correctly. I don't think he's an authority. Actually, I thought it was Drizzt, just like it's spelled; if people can say "fizz", they should be able to say Drizzt. :)
