    Warforged Barbarian

Interesting note for Warforged barbarians in Eberron. Warforged are immune to fatigue - does this mean they do not suffer the penalties for coming out of a barbarian rage?

D&D with no Armour: could it work?

You could always use the Defense rules in Unearthed Arcana, where Defense (effective AC) goes up every level depending on class. Or simply have the setting be that where armor is something restricted to the military or really really rich folks, thus making that DEX bonus priceless to the players.

Political Correctness - An end to alignment troubles

The way I run it, during character creation players choose an alignment for your character. This must jibe with the character background - as it explains how the character HAS acted. Most of the time, the PCs will continue to act in this way, since it fits their character concept. If their...

PCs Running away when they should

Common knowledge shouldn't require a check. It should fall under those things everyone knows, like "swords are sharp" and "sounds of fizzy-pop-bang with flashing lights may indicate presence of a wizard".

PCs Running away when they should

Not necessarily. It depends on the campaign. In most fantasy worlds, even commoners, and simpletons know that dragons are dangerous creatures that burninate both peasant and countryside. So it'd be logical for players to see a dragon, and even if they couldn't gauge its age, to run for the...

Rank the 3.5e DMG Prestige Classes

Here's my thoughts on how to rank the classes: Arcane Archer: Reduced in effectiveness from 3.0. Only really accessible at high levels, unless you only take the minimum required arcane spellcasting levels, in which case it becomes merely a glorified archer. By the time a character would qualify...

    Specialist wizards

Additional question: Say a specialist wizard (using the Transmuter in the first example) multiclasses into sorcerer. A) Can he cast spells from the prohibited schools as spells from his sorcerer daily spells? B) Do the spells he casts as a sorcerer gain the benefit of the specialist class...

    Specialist wizards

Since they cannot cast spells from their prohibited schools, can they still use magic items based on those spells? For example - a transmuter with prohibited schools Illusion and Conjuration: 1) Can he use a Ring of Invisibility? 2) Can he use a Wand of Summon Monster I? 3) Can he cast...

He Says Nobody Can Beat His Tower

Five stories of adamantite? Wow. That's heavy. REALLY heavy. Wonder how far it goes below the ground? Two fun spells: Move Earth and Rock To Mud come to mind. ~M.

    D&D 3.x Why be a Fighter? (3.5)

First of all, hit points are king. More HP = live longer, plain and simple. This makes the fighter superior to all the other "lower classes". Second - no magic. Thus, things like SR and Dispel Magic that make everyone else wet their pants don't even apply to you. You don't have to worry about...

    Cover to Dragon #310 [wow!]

Elmore does one thing - pinups. He does them very well. But I do agree, they're all variations on a theme. Still very good, even if they're all very similar. The occasional Elmore cover isn't a bad thing. Twelve months of it would get very old. A landscape piece would also have missed the...

    Location idea resource

The Half-Full Flagon In the times of the plagues, food and provisions were very tightly-controlled. So much so, in fact, that in one county the local lord passed an edict declaring that all wayhouses, pubs, public establishments, and inns would serve no traveler more than half a plate of meat...

Is 3.5 just another WoTC Shakedown?

If you're DMing, pick up the DMG. However, if your players don't have the 3.5ed PHB, you'll need that, too. For all intents and purposes, you can keep using the 3.0 MM without too much trouble. The Harm spell in 3.5 is still not on the fighter spell list. Broken, I tell you! As for a...

How does magic and psionics work in your world?

In my homebrew, magic is still (to the populace) a mysterious force that is dangerous and spectacular to manipulate. It was originally thought that arcane magic was the result of using the proper gestures, incantations, and ritual in conjunction with willpower and innate (genetic?) ability to...

    AC per level

It helps to think of Hit Points not as a quantity of "how much damage can I take exactly" but "how much will this hurt?" 1st level fighter = 10 HP. 20th level fighter = 120 HP. (for the sake of argument). Both guys get hit by an arrow doing 4 points of damage. 1st level guy goes "OW! There...

The whole POINT of 3.5 (that everyone is missing)

See, I sort of agree. To the casual eye, there's not a lot of difference between the two books, especially if you haven't seen them before. Brown book with a gold thingy on the cover. However, gaming stores will be displaying it as "NEW!", more than likely - since that sells better. People are...
