D&D 5E (2024) What older setting do you want to see next?

Using a map North America as the basis from which to trace the map of a fantasy world does not automatically make the indigenous peoples of the fantastical continent equivalent to indigenous North Americans. And being Canadian, I guess I never realized that North American indigenous peoples...

D&D 5E (2024) What older setting do you want to see next?

@Yaarel... I am not disagreeing that the descriptions of the Suel (Amedi and continental) you cited are problematic. I was merely disagreeing with your characterization of the Flannae as "indigenous peoples from Canada or the US" (which is not necessarily supported by Gygax), and of the Amedi...

D&D 5E (2024) What older setting do you want to see next?

It is, in some ways, set in present day Greyhawk, but TSR's Blackmoor products were all set in the past of the Known World (Mystara). And then, there's the 3.0/3.5/4.0 edition that stood more or less on its own. EDIT: see this link for further info.

D&D 5E (2024) What older setting do you want to see next?

This is but one interpretation, and not necessarily the one that matches Gygax's original vision. I think you are overlooking the Olman ("Meso American") peoples of the Amedio Jungle, who definitely are not "Suel Whites who lost their Whiteness," as you put it. But both peoples did migrate to...

D&D 5E (2024) What older setting do you want to see next?

It's currently my third choice, but it wouldn't take much to convince me to make it my #1 choice.

Nordic Noir (and other European tv series)

It's not detective noir, but I just finished watching Tales from the Loop and can't recommend it enough. It certainly has a modern fantasy Nordic noir feel to it... with a hint of Twilight Zone meets The Leftovers? EDIT: The artist whose work inspired both the TV series and the Free League RPG...

Nordic Noir (and other European tv series)

My spouse has the complete series of books for both Vera and Shetland. I haven't had the time to read them, but do enjoy both as TV shows.

Nordic Noir (and other European tv series)

There are great detective noir series on BBC streaming services: Shetland, Vera, and many more (the titles of which escape me at the moment). Both the main and supporting characters feel so much more real than they do in most American crime shows (mind you, American Crime and The Killing -- the...

Coyote & Crow: Stories of the Free Lands: An Interview with Connor Alexander

Any chance you live in the Calgary area, doc? If you do and you're looking for players, I'd be happy to give it a shot (I don't own a copy of the book yet, though).

    D&D 5E (2014) Spelljammer 5E Poll

Apologies for the minor tangent, but for those who have read through SJ 5E, are there any explicit Greyhawk or Greyspace references in it?

Online communities more important than in-game interactions to get into RPGs

Interesting find, but talk about a tiny sample sample size... two "experts" and five D&D 5E noobs. I'm not saying their observations aren't valid (I haven't read the paper, just the abstract), but in the absence of a much greater sample size, the results evidently are very limited and...

Dragonlance Do you plan to buy Dragonlance?

Yep. I don't know if I will run the adventure, but I would still like to have the book and the Warriors of Krynn board game. If my friend who DMed a brief Dragonlance campaign back in the day decides that he won't run it, then I might (assuming I like the overall story). Even if I don't run it...

D&D 5E (2014) Which of the big hardcover adventures have you run or played through?

None yet. I intend to run Ghosts of Saltmarsh soon, and hope to one day run Curse of Strahd, Wild Beyond the Witchlight, and parts of Out of the Abyss and Princes of the Apocalypse (and maybe parts of Tomb of Annihilation and Storm King's Thunder, too... I really don't like the main plot behind...

Top Ten most infamous RPG Kickstarter Failures, by Shannon Appelcline.

I funded the documentary-that-will-never-be (?), the Paizo Online Kickstarter (but I only backed for the table-top adventure books and flip-mats, which I did receive, so no loss there), and this dud from Fire Mountain Games: Throne of Night, a Pathfinder RPG Adventure Path. The latter used his...

D&D General "I have Played in or Run a Campaign Set in the Forgotten Realms" (a poll)

True... but only because I'm currently running LMoP as is. I have no intention of continuing in FR after that, and will happily head back to Greyhawk next for Ghosts of Saltmarsh.

    Westworld Season 4

Haven't watched it yet. Season 3 reached a point where, IMO, the lengths to which it attempted to be convoluted and "deep" made it feel extremely pretentious. I dread the thought of having to sit through it again in order to have a chance of comprehending season 4. Then again, maybe I'm just...
