And, of course, Ket also happens to be a nation in the World of Greyhawk. I don't think that's a coincidence. The Wolf Nomads (Wegwiur) = Uyghur (can also be spelled Weiwu'er), and the Plains of the Paynims = plains of the non-Christian pagans (i.e., Muslims). See Definition of PAYNIM.

D&D Movie/TV D&D Cinematic Universe. What would it be like? What do you want to see?

I'm really tired of "save the world/universe/multiverse" type stories. I much prefer a localized focus -- defend the village, the barony, or a small realm. I prefer personal stakes to global/universal/multiversal stakes. Those kinds of over the top stories make it harder for me to fall in love...

D&D Movie/TV D&D Cinematic Universe. What would it be like? What do you want to see?

The movie is clearly going to have a Marvel superhero vibe (light-hearted, high action, cheesy one-liners, etc.). Not the kind of movie I wish they were making, but I'll still give it a chance and will judge it on its own merits -- rather than how it measures up to what I wanted it to be. That...

Samaritan Trailer - Sylvester stallone goes all in on the alt-superhero trend

I'm not a huge fan of either Stallone or superheroes, but I'm intrigued enough to give it a shot. IMO, most of Stallone's films are meh, but Rocky, Rocky II, First Blood, and Copland were all solid flicks in my book. Hopefully this will rank up there with them.

D&D 5E (2024) Should the game be "balanced" and what does that mean?

I concur with those who would like relative balance between PC powers at a given level. PC powers don't need to be absolutely equal at every level, but they should be roughly comparable so that everyone feels they can contribute equitably. I am not in favour of complete balance in random...

Edge Studio Midnight 5E - Campaign Sustainability

I've mostly been looking at online text and YouTube reviews. This one does a fairly deep dive on the Ruins of Symbaroum 5E Player's Guide: Ruins of Symbaroum Player's Guide Review YouTube overview of the player's guide: An overview of the GM's guide: Overview of the bestiary: The RoS...

Edge Studio Midnight 5E - Campaign Sustainability

Based on a quick "skim" of the Midnight - Legacy of Darkness PDF, I have a feeling that I'll be importing a lot of the mechanics from Ruins of Symbaroum 5E into my forthcoming Midnight campaign. I own all of the original edition Symbaroum books released in English to date, and the reviews I've...

D&D 5E (2014) Artificers, Paladins, and Rangers, oh, MY! (Concerning Cantrips)

Fun? Sure. But do we really need to further homogenize different classes by creating increasing overlap in their capabilities? For me the answer is no, but you and others evidently see it differently.

Jamison Stone & Satine Phoenix's Apotheosis Studio To Wind Down [UPDATED]

I always thought the name, and especially the logo for their "Sirens" project, looked like a cheap imitation of Norwegian metal band Sirenia's logo: Records – Sirenia I doubt it's a coincidence. For the record, Sirenia has been around since 2001.

Edge Studio Midnight 5E - Campaign Sustainability

I ran a Midnight campaign using a mix of 3.5/Pathfinder rules several years ago. My players still bring it up as their favourite campaign, thus far. We're all quite bummed that there's been no distribution of Midnight 5E in Canada. As to your questions... 1) In 3.5, many heroic paths were...

D&D 5E (2014) How long would it take to mine a gold vein in medieval times?

The 5E Survivalist's Guide to Spelunking also has a section on mining. I don't own a copy of the book, so can't comment on the quality of the rules. https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/364013/Survivalists-Guide-to-Spelunking?term=survivalist%27s+guide+to+spe

    D&D 5E (2014) Vecna's Dread Counterspell vs. Counterspell -- What's the Diff?

D&D 5E (2014) Suggestions for intro dungeon crawl?

Not unless you really scale back the encounter sizes. New players would be easily overwhelmed and killed in no time.

D&D General How would YOU do "classless D&D"?

Have you checked out the late AD&D 2.5E supplement Skills and Power? It wasn't perfect, but my friends and I certainly enjoyed the classless point-buy approach for customizing characters.

Store owner complains about Kickstarter and Twitter and D&D

Strange that Chaosium was named. As far as I can tell, they only use Kickstarter for more niche or collector-oriented products, like their recent anniversary box set with cleaned-up reprints of earlier edition modules. The vast majority of their RPG products are not Kickstarted, and go directly...
