    My Short Rest DM trick...

I'd let them do whatever they want. If more grungs happen to barge in on them 15 minutes into their attempt to take a rest, then that's what happens. I wouldn't forewarn the players about what's about to happen to their characters. They'll learn, eventually.

Check Out The First 3 Pages Of TALES FROM THE YAWNING PORTAL

Use the Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan if you want. It might work perfectly for what you are needing.

Check Out The First 3 Pages Of TALES FROM THE YAWNING PORTAL

Oh, crap. I thought you asked about the Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan. I answered your question based on that premise. So editing this to remove it. Someone also already answered your question, so cheers.

    D&D 5E (2014) Evil Campaign?

Ok cool. I still don't like playing evil campaigns. Sent from my VS990 using Tapatalk

    D&D 5E (2014) Evil Campaign?

A pure evil campaign doesn't sound fun to me, personally. I've never tried it, so I could be wrong. Now, playing a campaign where we are all gray, or something like chaotic good or chaotic neutral, could be fun. For instance, if we have to take the law into our own hands, and do some shady...

D&D 5E (2014) How much Warlord do you want?

Mmmkay. Do you want the lights on or off, is not a real choice?

D&D 5E (2014) How much Warlord do you want?

Honestly I don't care about the warlord, and it seems like extra class clutter I don't want.

D&D 5E (2014) My house-rules for extreme weather and sleeping in armor

The rules in the DMG say that if you don't have cold weather gear, you have to make the checks hourly. But if you do have cold weather gear, you automatically succeed every check. So basically the idea is if you are not prepared, you will freeze to death eventually, and must make a check every...

D&D 5E (2014) My house-rules for extreme weather and sleeping in armor

Thanks for the thoughts. You might notice that the times where I have characters make checks every hour is directly from the DMG. I'm not changing the rules there at all. If you're caught out in the extreme cold with no clothes on, you will make a check every hour until you freeze to death. Same...

D&D 5E (2014) My house-rules for extreme weather and sleeping in armor

I am only having them make checks every hour if they don't have cold weather gear on. In other words, it's if they were caught out in the arctic with only a t-shirt on. They will slowly freeze to death. If they have cold weather on, then they only make one single check per night. Sent from my...

    D&D 5E (2014) Google Maps for Forgotten Realms (specifically 5th edition D&D)

My advice/contribution is to make sure it doesn't get too monotonous for your players. If you can make it an epic journey with interesting things happening every day, like the Fellowship of the Rings journey to Mount Doom. But if you start having multiple days of nothing happening besides...

    D&D 5E (2014) What do you do?

I first ask what my character would do. Is is a lawful-good paladin who would sacrifice his life for his friends? Is he a shrewd rogue who likes his friends, but knows when it's time to make a hasty retreat? But even a good fighter or wizard type character who may want to stay and help his...

D&D 5E (2014) My house-rules for extreme weather and sleeping in armor

You've hit on something that's very important in my games. In the same way that it's not a good idea to call for a skill check in a situation where a character has no chance to fail, I also think calling for travel, forage, navigate, and survive weather checks, and even monster encounter checks...

D&D 5E (2014) In Defense of the Lore Wizard

You don't have to convince me. It's a great wizard build, and maybe the most useful and powerful wizard subclass. I was sold when I saw Prodigious Memory. That by itself is maybe the most important wizard trait a wizard can have.

D&D 5E (2014) My house-rules for extreme weather and sleeping in armor

I'm not bent up about it. I find out fun to have gear have some meaningfulness in gameplay, and if in your game you adhere to weight and encumberance rules, it's a heavy piece of gear to carry around for no use. Sent from my VS990 using Tapatalk

D&D 5E (2014) My house-rules for extreme weather and sleeping in armor

The DMG already has a rule that says if you have cold weather gear, then you automatically succeed on the check. So your rule changes that. And I shyed away from an hour-by-hour approach if characters were properly geared, contrary to what you suggested, because after 8 different rolls in a day...

D&D 5E (2014) My house-rules for extreme weather and sleeping in armor

Thanks, TallIan, I'll give some thoughts to your suggestion. I've made some changes to my original proposal. This is what I have now: Extreme Cold: Surviving in extremely cold or hot places, like arctic or desert climates, can be a challenge. If you are in an arctic climate and have no...
