Would more people play if games were "faster?"

If you sped up the mechanics, that would just allow more of the around-the-table laughing, joking, off-color comments and sports programme cheers to take place!

Has 4e caused a great rift between gamers?

I went with "Some of" as an option. I was going to post about "4E only causing rifts with Old Skool Gamers on the Internet" but then I saw ProfessorCirno's post, which I think is far more intuitive, intelligent and introspective.

Forked Thread: What is WOTC's Goal with the GSL?

I think there's a point of confusion here. There are a number of OGL games that were published. None of them have an SRD (System Reference Document) where you can go get the rules and search the rules online. PDFs don't count because you have to download these. Now there are some fan-started...

OK GenCOn ENWorlders, document your experiences here...

Ah! I finally have enough time to search out journal entries and post here. I only managed to game with two other (full-time) ENWorlders, but I did manage to game a lot in Indy. Plus Psion came by to claim the table right after I was done. (Okay, he came during the game, actually, and then...

    Your Crowning Moments of Awesome

Right at Gen Con 2008! (Playing Lands of the Jade Oath.) Za Vhin, an enlightened scholar (who looks like a large, human child-sized rabbit), is inside a volcanic tube with his five friends. The lava is rushing toward them. He yells at the others to get out, then runs down the lava tube...

    Who Will Get the Axe?

I'm sorry to all who have lost their jobs! May you find better work and quickly.

Fiery Dragon has Sword & Sorcery license?

Any news then on the Arcana Evolved licensed products (yes I know one just came out)?

My son is new to the hobby - which game to start him on?

Run anything. Just get him playing. Nature and his own curiosity will do the rest! :) Good luck! Please let us know how it goes. I'm about to enter the same arena.

Kobold Quarterly 6: 2008 Annual plus free bonus adventure

Cool! Open Design is now "award-winning"! (Having just won the Diana Jones award.) I hope that distinguishes it suitably from KQ, both of which I enjoy immensely, but which really are different types of products.

Kobold Quarterly 6: 2008 Annual plus free bonus adventure

The Zobeck material represents less than 10% of any issue. Wolfgang's column usually covers one page (out of about 65 that aren't advertising, that's pretty good). The last "Zobeck" article, Gangs of Zobeck, was really good stuff easily portable to any setting. The "weird 'patron' purchase...

    Instead of a Screen...

Might books get piled on top of it? Regular tables don't hold enough for gaming IMO. (I haven't used a screen in years except for a series of games I ran for a friend who gave me a spiffy custom screen. Got in the way, and I roll most dice out where the PCs can see them anyway.) That said, it...

    Post Submission Error

Reporting the following (apologies if this is already reported): When I hit Submit, the delay in submission takes a while. I then see the screen (couldn't capture it, sorry) that says I've already submitted and it's a duplicate post. Then it displays my post that I just made (once) and didn't...

    Information Management...

Yes. The information flow is well done. I do hate the fact that there is a unified table for the classes (meaning you have to keep flipping back and forth to it until you have it memorized - hah! I'm too old), but I found it nicely led me through all the aspects of the game so far. It is easy to...

What is it about the GSL that is really a deal breaker?

I would add "no online SRD". Frankly, its a wonderful tool for writing with. Why is it an issue that one can't reproduce the basic rules? The money all comes from the sales of all the post-core non-OGC books and anyone buying an "alternate PH" probably wasn't part of that market anyway. (Or has...

What is it about the GSL that is really a deal breaker?

At what cost? See, that's part of the issue. A large corporation has a budget and staff lawyers, plus they can pay outside counsel. What hasn't really been discussed here is that WotC, at the appearance of a breaching product, can file for the injunction. Whether they get it or no, the costs...

Very nice name! Congrats to all. :)

What is it about the GSL that is really a deal breaker?

I don't believe so. It handed out rights to use certain portions of their product and IP as defined in the SRD. Mindflayers, beholders, and more are not in there. I think the word "careless" implies that they didn't think about it, whereas the history of the OGL is one of careful thought...

What is it about the GSL that is really a deal breaker?

So what are the good points of the GSL? That you're allowed to produce 4E content? It has to be viewed in the context that a much freer agreement produced a florescence of content, and now that has been removed.

How do you like your maps?

Maps are what you make of them! If they are a way to get where you are going, that's what the players will use them as. I am playing in a Kalamar game right now, and the Atlas and the maps are gorgeous. However, we don't pore over them in game. We look at them, figure out where we are going, and...

Something I've Never Seen in an RPG System

This sounds mechanically like a melee fight between two opponents in D&D that only those two can participate in. Think about it. Most D&D fights involve multiple combatants attacking an enemy. Pare it down to two. One PC, one opponent. Replace the flavor of weapons with the effort of wills. You...
