    D&D 4E WotC's made some good 4E names, too!

No 'i's changed to 'y' either. Good job WotC!

So why don't reviews work? (as a marketing tool)

As opposed to moldering at full price on gamestore shelves, which was the old model. I agree. It's good that they are selling off. Reviews are very useful to me. Many companies do review copies. Few accept unsolicited reviewers. Some recruit reviewers. Strangely, after doing favorable reviews...

    Heroic Dilemma: Help Us!

Note however that the vision of the future might show what appears to be emergent Nazi tendencies that work with the aliens. Sounds like future travel is the way to go. Neat background.

D&D 4E Should terrain be move vulnerable to damage in 4E?

Perhaps it would make sense to assign thinner walls a lower Break DC to bypass hitpoints?

Successfully Running a Gimmicky One Shot

This is my stock in trade at conventions. I suggest: *Pre-gen sheets with a short roleplaying description (if it includes a character from popular fiction to cue off of, so much the better) Example: Master Po (6 Cha D&D PC) Rude, crude and loud, you have no time for more than the minimum of...

    Elder Evils

I looked through the preview. I didn't see a lot that I would use. I write my own EEs usually. If I want a fallback position, I already have the Galchutt from Chaositech.

Limited Number of Spells and No Spell-Learning for Wizards

Voss, I think you've got about half of the 4e strategy down. You need to put them together. Each year's PH will have new classes and new powers for the old classes! That way, you have to buy the book each and every year. :D Now, my question is, what's the mechanical difference between a ritual...

D&D 4E Should terrain be move vulnerable to damage in 4E?

I think dungeon walls are not cottage walls. Perhaps more games should take place in small, unsuspecting villages? (But otherwise I wholeheartedly agree with your point.)

Boy, Does It Ever Suck Not Getting Paid!

What does your contract (if any) say about disputes? If no contract, you can file a small claim. That's tricky if the company is in a different state. By the way, it sucks that you aren't getting paid. I hope you can work it out and get it!

    More from Mike Mearls

However, the decision to run still lies with the players. Do you know how hard it is to get PCs to back away from a fight? I'll be curious if 4E does that somehow mechanically, since even enemies dishing out significant amounts of damage per round often seem to encourage the "take them down...

    RPG Superstar Countries: Go vote!

Nope. They haven't announced anything to that effect. It's just a winnowing process once the Top 32 are down to the Top 16, when it changes from countries.

What ever happened to just "playing" the game and telling a great story?

This is really the rosy vision of nostalgia talking. In over 26 years of playing D&D, groups that put story first have been rare. Really rare.

    RPG Superstar Countries: Go vote!

Go see the countries! They are good stuff. There's one that moves - the whole country. There's a phenomenal kingdom of surface-dwelling industrial dwarves. Ocean states, lands ruled by the severed heads of dead gods, necromancer-druids, places where sorceresses get conscripted, and a lot, lot...

What's happened to your scrapped projects?

A few scraps molder under the earth of a landfill in Massachusetts. Many keep company, rubbing paper shoulders in the cold dark of a storage space. A privileged few inhabit a cabinet in a land of painted pine. Rarer yet are the great entries that were scanned into imperishable electronic form.

    D&D 4E My biggest concern about 4E

I agree with the overall point about things being taken out and changing. However, I don't think that we know who the "average gamer" really is without some hard numbers derived from surveys. Mearls pointed out years ago that there is the "silent majority" who just buy books and don't comment on...

One Progression to Rule Them All....

How about just giving out ranks for purchasing skills, saves and to hits? Retain the level cap idea from 3E but change it to Level+X depending on your class. Now that would be really interesting and require some resource management by players. However, it would be getting further away from D&D...

    Group builds secret underground temple

Now that's amazing work. I wonder how they disposed of the rock? They also have some talented artists on staff.

    How about using a 1" = 1.25 or 1 foot scale?

when the unimportant details are a little too interesting...

These are good problems to have. :) What if it's not just a ruined cabin but a burned cabin? There's places where the stone and the brush on the island is scorched and melted, although here and there the green has come back? While there, the PCs discover that they can add flame to their attacks...

    A Guess About Feats...

That's also similar to Iron Heroes, where after you buy the base feat you can select others in the chain. Which is an excellent approach. I would be happy to see something like that. (Though I wonder if it will eventually lead to griping about having to plan for a feat chain from L1.)
