Tiles for Steading of the Hill Giant Chief?

Justin, man, what is going on in your head? This is cool. Retro cool. :)

Rant -- GM Control, Taking it Too Far?

Rather than level the "dick" accusation at the DM, let's look at it differently. I suspect that the DM here may be a highly creative type. They tend to be rather sensitive to things and have a strong vision. (I know. I was this way for years.) The bit about him trying to change your cleric...

    Stylish Gaming Furniture

It was not at all clear that was a stool just from the photo! It's definitely cool.

    Any word on the GSL?

I think it is correct that there was a directive from on high to make 4E different, but it wasn't connected heavily to the reasoning behind the GSL.

    Tact-Tiles: The End

Clear. Square. A better quality carrying case would be nice please. What I would like as an optional accessory would be larger tact-tiles. Instead of a foot square, I'd also like a two foot square or a 1 foot x 2 foot rectangle. There are times it would be easier to just switch to a larger...

    Any word on the GSL?

I disagree. Gamers are collectors. The more the market stayed focused on d20/OGL, the better it was for Wizards and D&D. (There's a separate issue of saturation, of course.) The collectors bought more books, and the alternate setting games still used a lot of core material. I've seen gamers in...

    Gencon 2009 Indy

Going. Sucks that some friends can't make it this year. (Not due to the economy, but due to vacation schedules.) I plan to run several games, including some Jade Oath games, off-book.

    Any word on the GSL?

I am convinced that WotC did not make direct sales off the OGL. They made indirect sales as a result of the OGL. Every game that had an alternate setting but required a Monster Manual or a Manual of the Planes kept their market share strong. Every game that ran an adventure that used the core...

A Gaming Table My Wife Will Let Me Have

Good question. They had one of these on display at Gen Con 2008. I found it ironic that everyone wanted one, but I didn't see any orders being taken. (They may well have taken orders for a dozen or more. I only looked at it for about 10 minutes.)

    GMing: Transparency and Immersion

Transparency and immersion are wonderful. To me. Not everyone feels that way. It's the difference between where your gaming group falls in preference. (I think Robin Laws covered this ground nicely in Robin's Laws of Good Gamemastering.)

Gen Con Scheduled to Emerge from Chapter 11!

That is excellent! 8) Not only that, it's a tribute to Peter and Adrian and everyone on the team that they are pulling it out with a payment in full schedule. A lot of businesses try to negotiate their debt down to avoid some, and it damages their credibility over time. Go Gen Con!

Wrath of the River King - Wolfgang Baur's Open Design

I think Wolfgang thinks it does too. However, he's a man of his word. So once having set off with this model, he's sticking with it. There have been many suggestions about how to make the project work and be globally accessible to all. So far, the value to patrons seems to be early participation...

The Scop: Improvising Like a Pro

Out of curiosity, why is edition at all relevant to an interesting article on improv? Off to actually read the thing....

Wrath of the River King - Wolfgang Baur's Open Design

Not really. If the project is available to someone as part of the current patronage deal, the review would be really helpful. (I also note that multiple Open Design projects have been ENnie-nominated. The judges must have though they were pretty good. They are unlikely to ever win due to the...

Can we get this in English please? It's been 24+ years since high school Latin. Thank you.

What are the best Goodman Dungeon Crawl Classics?

Speaking of Monte Cook, he co-wrote #50, Vault of the Iron Overlord, with Soren Keis-Thustrup. An excellent adventure with a really neat rotating dungeon and a cool returning villain.

    Skiers & Snowboarders

Love skiing, would enjoy snowboarding someday when I can afford new gear. Current equipment is an "antique" pair of racecap Atomic Arc SLs. We ski almost all Eastern mountains in the US, so I'm good at ice and have no clue about powder. I once got applause at Mount Snow for a phenomenal yard...

    What the locals know

The answer may be more complex or just older than that, although that's certainly a good local explanation for why the legend keeps on going in Cinci. Check out this photo on Rootsweb (which I found Googling for images of Tiny Town). Google Image Result for...

    The Prestige Fallacy

While they may not always fit the title of "prestige", what's not to like about them? Players love the ability to customize. It keeps cropping up edition after edition. So why not embrace them? It's not the art itself, it's the execution of it that I disagree with in many places. A poorly done...
