D&D 5E (2014) Damage on a Miss: Because otherwise Armour Class makes no sense

Actually, it's still fine. Schrödinger's Cat is only a mystery if you never look inside the box, but we look inside the box every time we determine the outcome of a roll. If the DoaM was not enough to knock the target out, it was fatigue. If the DoaM was enough to knock the target out, it was...

    D&D 5E (2014) Monster Manual 2 or Player's Handbook 2?

The only additional player option I want to see is psionics. I do not see the need for the 3e/4e mess of player options, and I honestly hope it never happens. So I would rather see a Monster Manual 2 and a Psionics Handbook.

    D&D 5E (2014) Removing alignments

The inclusion of alignment in the 5e rulebooks is nothing more than lip service for those who expected it to be there -- to avoid the massive surge of complaints WotC would see if they left it out. In practical terms, it's safely ignored, and the game is better without it.

    D&D 5E (2014) The Sun Blade is a Lightsaber?

Umm, no ... light sabers are technology. This is magic. Like in Thundarr the Barbarian.

D&D 5E (2014) I thought about summoning spells too hard

In one of the old Manuals of the Planes (probably 1st or 2nd ed.), it mentions a pseudo-physical phenomenon that pops up in a random spot on an elemental plane whenever a wizard tries to summon an elemental. If you touch it, you get summoned. It doesn't mention any reward for this, or any other...

D&D 5E (2014) Anybody actually TRY soloing the Tarasque...?

GMforPowergamers I remember reading that thread. That's the internet for ya! There will always be someone telling you you did it wrong. But let's be real. No one wants to do the Tarrasque test, and no one needs to. The result can be shown algorithmically, so rolling actual dice for it is moot...

D&D 5E (2014) My group is questioning everyone.

Tormyr Are you saying the ground wasn't within 5 feet of him when it hit him? Just kidding -- you're right, of course. If I were one of your players, I would hate your dice and their critical ways.

    D&D 5E (2014) POLEARM MASTER (Feat) !!!

Yes. Unless the rule that grants you an attack states otherwise, all attacks gain attack and damage bonuses from an ability modifier. In other words, the only reason you don't get the bonus when two weapon fighting is because the rule for two weapon fighting says you don't. Attacking twice...

D&D 5E (2014) My group is questioning everyone.

Since charming a prisoner uses up player resources, I have no problem with that. What really bugs me is when people mercilessly slay all but one, knock the last one out, question him with torture or the threat of torture, and then agonize over whether it's morally correct to kill him at that...

D&D 5E (2014) Damage on a Miss: Because otherwise Armour Class makes no sense

It's a game, not a simulation. All other arguments are invalid.

D&D 5E (2014) Anybody actually TRY soloing the Tarasque...?

That's not true. If you try it and the wizard loses, your next step would be to report back, telling us step by step what you did and exactly how the Tarrasque managed to win. Then we'd tell you how you did it wrong, and you'd be welcome to take that knowledge and try again.

D&D 5E (2014) My group is questioning everyone.

The best way to discourage prisoner-taking is to stop rewarding the players for doing it. But keep in mind, you have to be consistent, or it will backfire in a big way. In this case, negative punishment (denying them a positive stimulus) can change to random positive reinforcement of the...

    D&D 5E (2014) CR 13 dragon beaten by level 7 party observations

Ah, yes, I had forgotten about the doubling. Thanks! That actually meshes very nicely with the grappling rules, which are just fine as written.

    D&D 5E (2014) CR 13 dragon beaten by level 7 party observations

The size restriction only applies to the person initiating the grapple, and it's not about being "outclassed" in terms of grappling ability, or even relative Strength. It's more about relative weight -- a Huge creature weighs thousands of pounds. Attempting to immobilize something that big...

    D&D 5E (2014) Dual-Wielding

Note that if the enemy is behind a creature (friend or foe), it has half cover, which is +2 AC for it, not disadvantage for the shooter.

    D&D 5E (2014) CR 13 dragon beaten by level 7 party observations

You could always use a dragon that's proficient in Athletics if you want it to be a good grappler. That could be its "thing"! Renowned throughout the land for grabbing knights and flinging them off of mountains!

    D&D 5E (2014) Things that wreck with alternate healing/rest

(PLEASE NOTE: This is not a thread about which system you prefer, or what you'll be using, or opinions in general. There's another thread for that. This one is about rules problems only. Thanks!) First, I'll point out that a lot of things don't wreck -- at least not badly. In most cases, class...

D&D 5E (2014) On the healing options in the 5e DMG

This discussion makes me feel like I'm the only person in the world who knows about healing potions. For those of you unfamiliar, they are a method of self-healing available to all characters, no matter what class. They are also specified as common loot, so they are in a lot of treasure stashes...

Not really -- I would have bought it for reasons 2 through 10, regardless.
