D&D 5E (2024) PHB 2024 Is Hilariously Broken. Most OP of All Time?

True. On the other hand they are milking for all it's worth now, happy times :)

D&D 5E (2024) PHB 2024 Is Hilariously Broken. Most OP of All Time?

Commercially I think WotC has been on the right track since 3e, but have refined the process with 5e. Release edition with lots of broken stuff, let the fan debate rage for a while, make errata but keep most broken stuff. While the debate temp keeps on being high, release a supplement book with...

D&D General How you would have done the Dungeons and Dragons' movie - 80's edition

As to 80ies esthetics and D&D: Yes, for me 80ies fantasy movies are way more Dungeon Crawl Classics than D&D, but without the tech or budget to make the gonzo and grand elements non-comic. Imho that's why movies like Krull are such amazing golden nuggets with sweet cheese filling. And that's why...

D&D General How you would have done the Dungeons and Dragons' movie - 80's edition

If it was me as I were in the early eighties who got the job, the budget would probably be minimal. So chances are I would go with soft pr0n Italian fantasy, throw in a bad stop motion dragon and even worse non-lip synched dubbing, and call it a day.

AD&D 1E Seriously contemplating an attempt at a retro AD&D

AD&D was my first meeting with the system, but these days I vastly prefer OSE Advanced for a similar experience.

OSR Old school wizards, how do you play level 1?

That's because he has a permanent, seriously upcasted Shillelagh on his staff, and a Robe of Mithril Full Plate +5.

Worlds of Design: Why Buy Adventures?

Normally I buy a couple of modules per year for the systems I GM. Most I never run as I usually do sandboxy campaigns, but use as inspiration and as examples of that the creator think an adventure in the system should look like. But I'm currently on a Dungeon Crawl Classics high, and have...

Spoilers Rings of Power is back!

I actually like this series. Yes, there are serious lore flaws, but it's not that bad as modern TV adaptions go. If the show is allowed to run its course it will probably serve as a pretty good prequel story to the Jackson trilogies. In one way I guess I've resigned to the fact that for someone...

    D&D 5E (2014) Beyond Level 20?

Maybe start the leveling mill again, just with higher numbers and phat powers. The restaurant at the end of the universe have a problem with giant god-rats in the cellar?

Players Don't Care About Your Setting

For longer and more roleplay:y fantasy campaigns, I usually place them in Forgotten Realms or Golarion, so the one lore nerd in my group can go wild without any extra burden for me. For my upcoming Dungeon Crawl Classics campaign, I'll just make sh*t up as we go. The only genres I actually put...

WotC How much does Hasbro / WotC impact your feelings towards D&D?

Yeah, when I vacation travel I try to locate places that attracts blue collar workers. It's a good way to avoid tourist traps and find the good rustic stuff in back alleys.

WotC How much does Hasbro / WotC impact your feelings towards D&D?

I have only played using my home-brew sandboxy campaigns for many years now, so I don't know. I own a few adventures/campaigns from most of the various system that I've played, that I've used as inspiration/nicked ideas from/sampled what the producer thought an adventure should look like. The...

WotC How much does Hasbro / WotC impact your feelings towards D&D?

Take a deep breath sir. Hasbro is a megacorp and will always strive for optimizing profit, otherwise they will get sued and heads will roll, it's just a big corp fact and the big corp way in a hyper capitalistic society. But I have never called any edition of D&D a crap game. What I have done...

WotC How much does Hasbro / WotC impact your feelings towards D&D?

I wrote "just naked profit". Of course I want game producers that manage that precious balance between profit, engagement and quality to be successful. And I don't agree about your value for money argument. With 50 years evolution of layout, printing, game theory and experience I darn well hope...

WotC How much does Hasbro / WotC impact your feelings towards D&D?

For me it impacts my view of D&D, but not so much that it's Hasbro specifically. It's more that the brand is handled by a very large corporation where profit and massive sales are in focus rather than the game itself. The game doesn't have to be better than enough to generate profit that satisfy...

    Be a GAME-MASTER, not a DIRECTOR

Nowadays my campaigns is pretty sandboxy and I probably agree with the message. But I'm not gonna waste another 15 minutes on another opinion in video format that could have been written down and read in a minute or less. Or at least give us a TLDW option so we don't have to live through all...

Traveller Creator Marc Miller Passes Ownership To Mongoose

I played Traveller before I played D&D back in the days. I own a bunch of MgT2e stuff, and they are very high quality, so I have full confidence in Mongoose managing the heritage. The only downside with MgT imho is that the system with all bells and whistles going is fiddly. As Foundry is my VTT...
