    D&D 4E 4e Slaughtergarde

For a first attempt, I'd do Keep on the Shadowfell. Browsing through it, I was at first unimpressed. But then when I saw how the old standbys like goblins and zombies worked in 4e, I got excited about it. There's also a lot of good advice in there on how to run it and keep it active and fun...

    D&D 4E 4e Slaughtergarde

Hey Connorsrpg -- I tried to e-mail you using the address found on that page. I included all the Slaughtergarde info, pics, etc, but the e-mail bounced every time I tried to send it (this was about 2 months ago, as I recall). I tried two or three times -- bounce, bounce, bounce. [:(]

What is your second edition experience (no edition war!!!)

Basic > 1e > 2e > 3e > 4e The most fun I had was with Basic & 2e. 2e's many varied settings and supplements (though unprofitable for TSR) as well as their Core Rules tools for the PC, and their optional Skills & Powers rules, made 2e the most complete and flexible edition, to my mind, even if...

A talk on the concept of "failures" in a skill challenge (no math, comments welcome)

What was the consensus? I'm interested. But not interested enough to scroll through dozens of pages of it. (or a link to the relevant post)

A talk on the concept of "failures" in a skill challenge (no math, comments welcome)

Also... The DMG says to use the moderate DCs on pg 42 for skill challenges. At first level, that's DC 15. While it says at the bottom of that chart to add +5 for skill checks, I think the intent may have been that that footnote text was intended solely for isolated skill checks, not when...

A talk on the concept of "failures" in a skill challenge (no math, comments welcome)

Heh. Oh yeah. That's a good point. They're so little a part of my world, I forget to consider them. But yeah, that would certainly be problematic.

A talk on the concept of "failures" in a skill challenge (no math, comments welcome)

The way I understood skill challenges was that the DM designs the encounter using skills that the party has a reasonable chance of making. I'm pretty sure that's explicitly stated in the DMG. So if I were to design a skill challenge I expected the heroes to overcome, I'd set it up so that...

Pramas on 4E and New Gamers

The new DDM is an excellent gateway. Its simplified rules work very, very close to the way combat works in the 4e RPG. Once you have a grasp on those, you have a very good feel of the mechanics; if the interest is there, it's a pretty smooth transition to the PHB classes.

How do you feel about miniatures?

Always enjoyed them to some extent, but never had enough to use them effectively until Steve Jackson's "Cardboard Heroes," which is great value for your dollar. We used these at the end of 2e to diagram certain situations, lay things out for everyone's understanding and as an aid to imagination...

    Waiting another month for 4E

The deal is, if you sign up for free shipping, you go last in the queue, no matter what. If you ordered in February like I did, and someone else orders June 1 with paid shipping, their order comes before the one with free shipping. It's an awful way to do things, but this is what they explained...

    Waiting another month for 4E

    Waiting another month for 4E

That sucks. In the case I was just referring to, the order I just canceled and reordered individually was a gift. What's strange is that I ordered mine Feb 21st and I ordered his Feb 22nd. Mine shipped yesterday, and his gets caught. GoodKingJayIII, here's what I would do in your position...

    Waiting another month for 4E

Guys, just cancel your order and re-order the books individually. It's the gift set with the slip case you're waiting on. Ordering individually will cost you maybe $5 more (like $62), but that's what you were paying when you ordered it the first time. There's little sense in waiting a month...

D&D 4E Trying to increase the rarity of magic items in 4E

I think this was covered in an article. You can remove all magic items and just give players a static increase to their attacks/defenses like so: levels 1-5: +1 6-10: +2 11-15: +3 16-20: +4 21-25: +5 26-30: +6 Done. No magic items necessary. (adjust crits as Mustrum Ridcully advises below)...

Do you like being slated to win?

I can't vote in the poll because I believe in all the choices to some degree. But DougMcCrae is right about fiction; it's generally not a good choice to kill off your protagonist unless there's a strong story reason for it, because if they perish, then they do not learn from their experience...

Epic Destinies... Really? That's all of 'em?

Does anyone know if Epic Destinies even made it into the core books? I spent some time searching through them at the store and couldn't find any trace of them. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/4ex/20080512a
