    Good Superhero-Game?

I'm standing with Seeten on all of the back-and-forth you see above. And if the core book is faulty in any way, the Mastermind's Manual will take care of it for ya. The MaMa even provides a power (with a couple of extras and a limitation) that clearly and simply emulates that vaguest of all...

    Good Superhero-Game?

Equipment isn't free. The game descriptive diff between equipment and a device is that I, Thotas, can (if I have the cash) buy equipment. Not legally in the case of some items, but it's stuff a person in real life could theoretically have. On the other hand, Iron Man armor and Mjolnir are...

    Good Superhero-Game?

Nope, I'm an M&M booster. An earlier poster said M&M didn't do skill based heroes well; I'm pointing out that 4 or 5 of the examples given in the rules are characters with no Powers. And that's a high rate if the M&M basher were correct about that. I'm say it's good.

    Good Superhero-Game?

Thanks, Tietan ... you reminded me of another criticism of M&M that I'd meant to respond to in the earlier post. It is absolutely easy to make a skill-based super in that game. In fact, the core rules provide 13 samples of character example types, of which 4 have no "powers" outside of those...

    Good Superhero-Game?

Fearsome Presence is a Feat, not a Power. And anyone with a Hero Point can simulate a Feat for a round. Although, it should be admitted that the boundaries between a Feat and Power can sometimes be blurry in M&M. For that matter the "Strike" Power can be taken with a descriptor that...

    Good Superhero-Game?

You mean like a one book system that allows those aforementioned folks over at the Atomic Think Tank to model everyone from Kal-El to Greg House? In case the point has not been made, M&M. 2e. That Kenson guy is a genius.

Best Class for a new player

Yeah ... I tried not to long ago to teach a new guy by letting him join a ninth level group. I'm with those who say that under 3.x Edition, you start 'em at 1st or accept that you're counting on a miracle. Figured Fighter/Favored Soul was good ... able to hold up with simple melee without too...

    Is Jack Bauer LG?

Yeah, the leg shooting incident was way spoiled way back. In part by me, so I know. ;) And the context it's being brought up in now also brings up a matter that I don't think has been mentioned yet; what is called (I think as a technical term in game theory?) "perfect knowledge" or lack...

    Is Jack Bauer LG?

Well, okay, I expected that would be the one you would bring up 'cause you had made specific reference to it. Frankly, that incident was a stretch in general; even with the film crew and special effects folks sitting around, I have my doubts they'd have been able to get it together as fast as...

    Is Jack Bauer LG?

I'm pretty sure that it was first season that he threatened to kill someone with a towel in a very gruesome manner unless given info that he needed. The fact that his training even contained this kind of technique lends credence to a sketchy past. Someone earlier said Delta Force proves...

    Is Jack Bauer LG?

Going waaay back to someone's comment about Buffy making a different choice for someone other than Dawn: end of Season Two. She blocked a hell-portal by shoving Angel through it, even as she saw him gain his good-guy status again. Guilt and shame then caused her to leave town with no intention...

When was the last time mounts/mounted combat saw a use?

Currently, I doubt it's crossed my player's minds, and if it did, the adventure is City of the Spider Queen, so usefullness is limited at best. I'd love to see some cavalry action, though, and it was my first thought when I started scanning Red Hand of Doom. I look forward to running that...

    Is Jack Bauer LG?

Another character that would be difficult to characterize in D&D's alignment scheme would be Londo Molari of Babylon 5. Londo did horribly evil things for obstensibly good reasons, felt guilty repented them but didn't stop cold turkey. He promoted large scale chaos with the goal of promoting a...

    Is Jack Bauer LG?

Kahuna, I'm no L5R expert, and I am summarizing what I do know here. With that caveat and apologies upfront for any error, let me tell you more. In the early history of Rokugan, the country was divided into clans. Each clan was given a job, and was exempted or given latitude in regard to...

    Is Jack Bauer LG?

I've thought about this question ... he seems to want both Law and Good, but often seems to have to choose between them. Sometimes it also seems like he's willing to be a personally bad for an impersonal good, almost like the L5R concept of how the Scorpion Clan is allowed to do dishonorable...

Paladins: Which do you hate more - LE or CE?

Priority would be a determination based on immediate threat vs. long-term threat, minor vs. major threat, and strategic considerations. That said, paladins are, I think, designed as a class (or at least built as characters) more to fight CE threats; those are often ones you can best deal with...

Anyone glanced at the new Character Sheets on the WotC site?

I'm going to print those out and try 'em ... though my group is cancelled for the next two weekends, so it'll be a while before I can really report any results. I also think that when copying is done, I'll rearrange page order. I prefer Base stat page / skill page / spells page / gear page...

PHB II - the new kinds of spell

Count me in on really liking the sound of the channelled spell. Always liked the drama of a movie or comic-book character "gathering" power, with the implication that they're can let go any second, but that the longer they delay the more kick the effect will carry.

A killer puzzle that makes me want to pull my hair out.

I would call it a bad puzzle. Each step seemed pretty arbitrary to me. Generally, I like puzzles. But not in game. If I wanted to do puzzles at that moment, that's what I'd be doing. I do sudoku, and enjoy it. But if one was handed to me in game, I'd just see it as slowing down the plot...

    Good Brian Lumley stories?

I read the first Necroscope book, felt no need to run down any more. I see I'm not the only one who was dissapointed with him.
