Attracting new people to gaming -- ideas and strategies

If that documentary is on DVD, I know a few people I'd love to show it to.

    A comment/confession

I understood it to mean "The Stopping and Speaking Place" or better yet "The Place to Stop and Speak". But as I said, my experience was somewhat surreal, so there ya go.

What Do You Like on Your Tacos?

I stand by my green sauce, and yes, I like it mild to medium. Too hot and I can no longer taste any of the ingredients, making the whole thing an exercise in futility.

Attracting new people to gaming -- ideas and strategies

Admittedly only tangenital to the topic, the promo DVD idea made me think about something ... what if a real documentary was made about D&D? Something that basicly took the premise of "This thing called Dungeons and Dragons has been around for over 30 years now, and we've all heard of it, but...

Fans of that Top Secret module with the absolutely unpronouncable name ... try playing it with a bunch of crazy people and a chaotic evil Administrator. Whether you enjoy it or not, it will definately be a very memorable experience.

    Its Overwhelming!!

I think the unfixed version of the link looks like great source material. Not the kind the OP was asking for, but I will be keeping my eyes out for that crazy-lookin' thing!

What Do You Like on Your Tacos?

On the subject of the taco: cheese, lettuce, tomatoes are pretty much gotta haves. As extras, I'll take sour cream, guacamole, and mild green sauce.

    In Praise of Cheetos

When I was a little kid, there was a soda called "Mountain Dew". It was light, crisp, and refreshing. Great stuff. They had commercials with a cartoon hillbilly yelling "Ya-hooo! Mountain Dew!" Then, it disappeared. I think it was the eighties when a soda appeared on the market again...

3e, DMs, and Inferred Player Power

Okay, this is an enlightening thread! 'Cause I've seen a million "edition wars" threads, and never seen the point of them. The anti-3e people would blame the new version for an evil I remembered from 1979, and the pro-3e people would praise it for solving problems that a lot of people had...

The Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh - your experiences?

Seeing this thread come back and seeing Saltmarsh in DMG II makes me want to run it as 3e for the current group!

Admit it. Who else did this?

Hmmm, I guess I was lucky ... I learned to play by joining people who'd already figured out their errors. Which included such dandys as "paladins detect evil ... automaticly, on everything that comes withing 60 feet". Even if you were invisible, if you're evil, the paladin instantly knows...

3e, DMs, and Inferred Player Power

If a DM can't/doesn't limit what comes into his campaign world, how can he keep it consistent? If the latest supplement for playing Jungle-based adventures has a "Swing Through the Trees Like Tarzan" Feat that I don't want to allow because this campaign is supposed to feel like Newhon, it's not...

    "Assassinator?" WTF!

I have the first version of Spycraft, Shroom, and it's pretty cool. I'm not up-to-date on 2.0 (as in, is out, or just on it's way?) but I'm sure it's at least as good, changes probably based on player input. Pick it up, even if you don't know the right players now, maybe someday you'll get...

    "Assassinator?" WTF!

WHAT? That's the scariest thing I've heard in ages. It's been my experience that even the most immersion style players of D&D go on complete psycho rampages when they try an espionage (well, supposedly espionage) game. I don't understand it at all. I try playing a character with style and...

3e, DMs, and Inferred Player Power

Perhaps that's where my old age is a blessing. I'm running a game now with an old friend as a player ... along with his daughter, and her boyfriend. The yung'uns know that it's all ultimately up to the DM 'cause that's the way we taught them.

    Who are Howard and Leiber?

Thanks, kigmatzomatz. I may have to give that a try ... especially that Bahzell stuff, since I've already been enjoying the adventures of the Royal Manticoran Navy.

Mutants & Masterminds - Atomic Think Tank Forums Down

And the wait is driving me crazy 'cause that's where I keep looking hoping that Black Island (or whatever BI stands for) will announce it's using M&M for it's upcoming DC game!

Good drawing - is it just talent or can it be learned?

As someone who's drawn since I was little and is generally told by others that he shows artistic talent ... I'm going to chime in with one of my old college professors, Berkeley Chapelle, who said it so well. Chapelle said that if he was given a year-long project to work with someone with...

    Who are Howard and Leiber?

I've actually found it harder to find good science-fiction and fantasy since the popularities of Tolkien and Star Wars upped the amount both genres to be found in stores about a generation ago. It's entirely possible that with the increase of material that there's an increase in good material...

    Astronomy question

Huh? Planets are points? Well, at my age my eyesight isn't what it was, and I live in the city now that I'm an adult, so there's light polution like crazy but ... as a kid, I read that you could pick out a planet among the stars by virtue of the fact that it was a (very small) distinct disc...
