    Playtest Package Contents

Well, I tried. You have to have an account with them, and I tried to set one up and it won't let me. Thanks much, WotC, and if your game ends up sucking don't blame my lack of input.

Pathfinder 2nd Edition (no, don't get excited!)

Exactly. If you start a character at first level, they're simple enough for you to learn how they work. Then they change slowly enough that you can keep up with the rules that are relevant. The GM's got it a bit harder, of course, but still only needs to know the material he's using. In the...

    is the Pandora algorthm broken

It seems pretty wonky to me some days. Then there are the cases where there's a performer that I have showing up on a channel a lot, and the info on the performer lists "similar to"s ... are a list of performers I've yet to hear a song from.

On 5E Skills (aka How Game System Affects Immersion)

This is the style of play I like best! The character's skill is acknowledged and incorporated by the rules, but proactive thoughtful players are rewarded as well. Best of both, in my eyes.

On 5E Skills (aka How Game System Affects Immersion)

I'm guessing that the times the DM just says "yeah, you make it, no roll needed" are the replacement of the "take 10" rule.

    Creating PC's with Personality

Theft is a fairly reliable method. There's got to be a movie, tv show or book that has a character that a given player enjoys. I once played an assassin in 1e that I based on Charles Bronson's character in the movie "The Mechanic". I didn't even think anyone else at the table had seen the...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D next ... fate or doom ?

There was a poll asking us pick from a list of possible names. One option was "D&D Extreme". I can't out and out say it would've stopped me from buying the game, but it might've also sold me a big Sharpie or other method of blotting that one word off of all my copies of products with that logo.

How Were AoOs / OAs Explained to You?

When I finally get a group together again, I will indeed be explaining the AoO as a "cheap shot" -- and since cheap shot rolls off the tongue much more easily, we'll probably substitute the term. For that matter, 5e designers, take note! Make it official!

Examples when you cheated, and why.

All the stories about the stat rerolls reminds of a guy I knew back in school. He only played fighters, and would only play one with an 18 Strength. But he didn't want to cheat, so he would roll and roll the d6s until it finally came up with an 18. Having now "legitimately" rolled his...

    Classical Mythology RPG?

Green Ronin also put out a Greco-OGL product. Can't remember the name of it, and my own copy is misfiled in one of the many unopened boxes from the last time I moved, it appears. It was pretty good, if memory serves.

    Trying to dump cable television.

I got rid of cable just over a year ago because of trying to save money to pay off medical bills. I thought I would miss it horribly. I was so wrong. And now I never have to see any commercials with that horrid Flo character from Progressive Insurance!

    Stupid Monsters Part 3

For crossbreeds, I tend to whenever assume the owlbearesque origin rather than the squick origin ... "Oh, those crazy wizards and their lab experiments!". Still, have to wonder about the popularity of the half-dragon template in 3e ... what ever happened to dragons being attracted to other...

    I want to tell you something...but I won't.

This is one of those times to remember that the player is not the character, and the character is not the player. Vonclarin the Wizard may have seen and heard something on what for him was yesterday. But for Andy, who created Vonclarin, that was a session two weeks ago. And he didn't actually...

Can teens participate in game-store hosted RPGs?

I have to think this is the most common circumstance -- at the very least, most gamers want to encourage young gamers so there will still be gamers to game with! And that would go double for people who actually sell gaming material. The only reason I could think of that anyone would turn you...

Would you quit a game if....

Wow, after reading that first post, I gotta say something without waiting the time it would take to read the whole thread. So, somebody's probably said this already. I'm undoubtedly chiming in on someone else's already expressed opinion. Assuming hypothetically you were to accommodate this...

    John Carter

That's because the movies aren't shot in 3D. They're converted after being shot in 2D. Learned my lesson on "Thor" -- not paying an extra three-fifty to have the movie look like crap ever again.

    Pathfinder Review: Distant Worlds

I'll be lucky at this rate to get a "normal" Pathfinder game going, but since I love the planetary romance genre, I'm sure I'll find this well worth it just as reading material.

    First time GMing

I was going to say that I don't really see a need for the memory loss in the story, but I really like Lwaxy's suggestion.

    Morrus on ... XP

I used to think giving our xp for good roleplaying was a good idea, but one day it just hit me that the DM has no business telling me if I've played my character well, because it's akin to him telling me how to play my character correctly. And if the DM has to make the decision as to who out of...

    Male Monsters

If I recall correctly, early Greek mythology implied that centaurs are all male. Later writing introduced a few females. I'm too lazy at the moment to go to the shelf that has the Pathfinder Bestiary, but I assume that it assumes female centaurs to exist. Back in the '80s, Roger Moore wrote a...
