This is blowing my mind. Mortaneus is awesome! I print every monster I use anyway, so I'm 100% covered...

How much damage does lava do?

I double-beg to differ. You are saying that it is impossible to throw yourself off of a 100 ft cliff at 1st level, or to find one, or to expect anything resembling a hazard as deadly as lava in a "4e balanced" campaign. from the dmg, pg.56 "Building an encounter is a matter of choosing...

    adventure tool/s

Wow, thanks! I'm running 3rd level campaign right now, I'll actually use your guy... let you know if he kills somebody. I deleted your xml file and your monster's still in my builder, the program just saves a copy of it somewhere? I can just export my monsters in the same way eh? Why did...

D&D 4E House Rules for a 4e WoW Game- Looking for constructive criticism

This seems like a must have if your going in this direction; there's *got* be something to salvage. There's an everquest and diablo book too that might have some easter eggs... diablo had an interesting system for naming/creating magic items, not far off from wow's style. Not great books but...

    D&D 3.x 3e to 4e

Interesting way of handling it. I did something similar, but 500 years in the future so everyone's normalized... except for all civilization being replaced with the "points of light" thing. Did you just luck out and have your final session just before 4e launched? Or did you have to bridge it...

    adventure tool/s

Is there going to be more added to the adventure tools? and what? The monster builder is wicked, but it looks like there's space for four more buttons on the intro screen there... are those just graphical or are there plans for them? I'd like: 1. an adventure and campaign structure/template...

D&D 4E Is 22 points the best point buy for 4e?

My group insisted on rolling their stats (as tradition demands) for 4e... all but one of them came up short of what they could have gotten with the 22 point buy. Suddenly 22 points was looking pretty good! I've thought about going back to rolling starting stats, but you'd have to have a way...

    Full discipline

hmmm food for thought; thanks! So a multi-classed character might do the move action power in a full discipline, but then use, say a rogue power or something after - just not another full discipline. Interesting point about the encounter power version 1of3... Whew gots to get all this down...

At what point do players know they're fighting Minions?

It occurred to me that people's take on this issue might be influenced by their mini collection (if any)... For instance, I have a decent collection (2000ish), and I carefully select my minis before hand. Minions always get 4, 5 or 6 of very similar or identical pieces. I can see how my...

    Playing hockey in DnD

Well, the easy thing would be to make it an opposing skill challenge dice-off, matched to a simple flow-chart of predetermined clutch moments. Or, take a look at blood-bowl and strip it down to it's absolute simplest structure, you ought to be able to make a rough soccer/hockey turn based game...

Would you subscribe to DDI if it supported older editions?

I voted lemon curry, because I'm already a ddi subscriber. Assuming that it was the same level of support, I could only imagine that it would be a separate branch with it's own CB etc for each edition. But if it were an add on, alternative stat blocks that sort of thing, with a slow roll out...

At what point do players know they're fighting Minions?

Is "in my head" and "i believe" supposed to mean something other than "I stand behind the following opinion"? Right, you believe one is superior, and the other is "spoon-feeding" aka "you are a big dumb baby for doing it that way". That is, in fact, you saying that one way is right and one...

At what point do players know they're fighting Minions?

This is exactly how I feel about always obfuscating which monsters are minions and which ones are not - fun the first couple of times to "scratch and reveal", but quickly stopped doing it for me and my players.

When you kill your monsters do you kill the boss one last?

4e's been pretty good at busting up the focus fire (for my group) - but when they can they seem to be most freaked out by buffs/heals and focus on the controllers first, whom I typically favor as the leader/bbeg. When it's chaos mode, I'd say artillery ends up being the first to fall, as my...

At what point do players know they're fighting Minions?

I'm thinking of the blind men feeling an elephant... Maybe I don't understand what you are saying, but to me it comes across as: "Doing x is detrimental to the quality of the battle, y is superior" I believe x has it's place in some battles, y in others, neither superior.

At what point do players know they're fighting Minions?

Minion revelation is part of encounter design. When dm'ing first time players, I'll point out which monsters are minions and what a minion is. Sometimes I'll want minions that are "fronting", pretending to be tough. Or regular monsters trying to hide in the crowd, or look like minions. Now...

    Full discipline

How does the full discipline for the monk work? Do you get to use the move action power AND the standard action power? Or do you choose one of them? I get that you can't use power A's move ability and then power B's standard action ability...

How much damage does lava do?

I roll damage for being near lava. For being *in* lava, I use the fire and brimstone rules. Especially in 4e, where insta-killz are hard to find, adhering to the fire and brimstone rules creates a special intensity. Also it is a nod to the lord of the rings. That being said, our first 4e...

    name this game

Does anyone know of/remember a ps2 game where you are a barbarian, who runs around from dungeon room to dungeon room solving puzzles? Like push a thing over there, jump up on the other thing, pull the lever ... there was no fighting at all you just had to solve the puzzle and move to the next...

    Why all the ritual hate?

Lets break this down... I think the logic behind this complaint would be: "they cost so much as to put an uncomfortable dent in the official gold piece value of a given characters equipment, therefore pinching that characters survivability, therefore rituals are broken." But in order for...
