Wizards of the Coast Releases Exodus TTRPG

Esper Genesis has a full monster book ?Threats Database?, and Monte Cooke has a good amount sprinkled through their 5e content, but Arcana of the Ancients is a great single-source. I know there are others, but those are off the top o' my head. OH how could I forget, EN recently released their...

D&D 5E (2014) Ben Riggs talks to Richard Baker. Phandelver in 2018 alone sold 300k copies.

I never touched Red Rocks in my game, I expanded on ?Baron Trask's? town a bit instead- but yours is a great recommendation!

D&D General Disparity in PC levels from same party

It does. West Marches works quite well in 5e, I ran it for years- characters within 3-4 levels of one-another works fine.

Other D&D Variant Domain play, what, if anything, do you use?

Consider the passage of time, yes, with regards to how long it takes to build stuff, or how long it takes to combat opposing realms, etc. But it sounds like you're looking for domain events specifically, which I'd recommend looking around online for.. there are a fair number of supplements with...

Stick a river through Phandalin, call it Drellin's Ferry and it can get burned down :'D I ran the party levels 1-5 through some little adventures in and around helping out Drellin's Ferry.. which is destroyed pretty quickly once you start RHoD. Really made them hate the Red Hand, and got them...

Red Hand of Doom is so, so, so good. Rich Baker and Carl Sargent are easily my favorite DnD adventure designers.

Other D&D Variant Domain play, what, if anything, do you use?

It's the same for me: PDFs are for reference, physical copies are for actual reading. It's tough for me to push through and fully read a PDF copy from front to back.

Other D&D Variant Domain play, what, if anything, do you use?

You might be thinking of Strongholds & Followers' strongholds, which were assumed to be separate buildings (keeps, temples, etc.) Building them together as a "castle" cost extra gold. But Kingdoms & Warfare has the party all collaborating to make their demesne's single character sheet, and each...

Other D&D Variant Domain play, what, if anything, do you use?

MCDM's Kingdoms & Warfare did something similar, giving your demesne a character sheet with stats.. but they didn't use the standard DnD ones iirc

D&D 5E (2024) When are we getting announcements for 2026 books?

Just a note: the text doesn't encourage running CoS as a full-on comedy. It does recommend using moments of humor to lighten the oppressive gloom of the dark nature of the adventure. That being said, I did steal Discworld's Igor-family concept pretty much whole-cloth and inserted it into my CoS...

RPG CROWDFUNDING NEWS – Drakonym, Heart: The City Beneath, Vaults of Vaarn, and more

Vaults of Vaarn 2e ... ugh. That'd be tough to resist. Luckily I can't afford it atm :'D

Can you elaborate on the "used dungeon world tags" part?

What are your thoughts on TTRPGs with non-standard dice?

Do your libraries? I know some of our locals do, but US libraries can be trendy :'D

What are your thoughts on TTRPGs with non-standard dice?

I like the zocchi dice chain of DCC... though when I think of Fantasy Flight games with their crazy dice, I think sometimes those helped differentiate the game and sometimes they just seemed gimmicky.

D&D General WotC: 'Of Course We're Going To Do' Baldur's Gate 4

I see a lot of folk talking about what outside studio could be tapped to make BG4... but it's quite possible that WotC will do what they've done previously and acquire/form a game studio for the project. I hope this isn't the case, because that's how we got DnD: Dark Alliance, but they've...

Level Up (A5E) Gaze of conviction

Easier fix, sure. I can't say that I like it better personally (it's nerfing the maneuver in a different fashion), but at least it's something- and unlike saving throws that target INT (shudder), most creatures have at least 10ish wisdom so it's possible for them to save.

    D&D General D&D: Literally Don't Understand This

That'd depend on the agreement between creator and company, but it'd be quite unusual. Commissioning a piece of art isn't like syndication on television- you pay the artist, the art is now yours to do with as you please (for the most part).

Level Up (A5E) Gaze of conviction

RAW, Gaze of Conviction has the archmage running at you with their dagger like a madman or uselessly trying to firebolt you at disadvantage as you stick a blade in their gut; the dragon won't use its breath even though it might roast you, it has to use its claw+claw+bite; the mind flayer won't...

I don't get the arguments for bioessentialism

Yup- people can change their minds! Or be inconsistent based on how they're feeling 😆 I'm no Tolkien, but a lot of my ttrpg setting isn't solidified until it becomes game-relevant. And even then, say I run two The Night Below campaigns... I might "curate" the events that show up as "historic"...
