How fast does PC damage rise relative to monster hit points?

The tuning for damage and hp gets a little wonky as you get higher and higher level, where there are obvious haves and have nots. In general, I found that for epic PC damage rose too quickly compared to monster hit points. That is to say, fights took fewer and fewer rounds. That said, for many...

    D&D 5E (2014) Previous Giant Modules recommendation

Yeah, the Stone Giant one is an original that they made. You can use it or skip it. Because Stone Giants aren't evil, when I ran it folks treated it as a much less "kill-em-all" mission. Much more sneak and talk and avoid hazards to deal with the actual problem.

    D&D 5E (2014) Previous Giant Modules recommendation

If you have DDI, there was a G1-G3 conversion for 4E that has more RPing bits in it. I'd echo Scrivener's assessment otherwise.

    D&D 5E (2014) DEX Save, if Grabbed

The rules / intent is that grappling does not affect your Dex saves. If you want it to matter more, you can do that. It makes a bit more sense as a rider on special creatures' grabs than generically. Otherwise you'll create situations where grab->Dex save spell becomes a standard tactic, which...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why should I allow Multiclassing ?

If he gets to keep Cait Sith as his familiar, then those levels of warlock were totally worth it :) What I'm trying to actually convince you is that Harry Dresden is a horrible example of a D&D character. He just made a magical agreement that gave him the D&D equivalent of +8 Str, +4 Con...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why should I allow Multiclassing ?

That's a much more reasonable point to multiclass, absolutely. As opposed to, say, Harry being a 16th level wizard picking up levels of warlock. Let's see, no 9th level spells, no end kickers, but he can cast Sleep 1/rest? You may have wanted to not cut off your quote before I specifically talk...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why should I allow Multiclassing ?

Thankfully, Harry isn't a 5E character, because adding levels of warlock _especially of the blade_ would be nigh useless to his character. It'll also get really strange if he has to give up those "levels" in a future book. The real trick is that he gained those powers without the rest of the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why should I allow Multiclassing ?

Okay, good. So why are we having a 20-page discussion about this? It's an optional rule. If you don't like it, don't use it. Done and done.

    D&D 5E (2014) Why should I allow Multiclassing ?

If only multiclassing had been in the DMG, with a couple different options, instead of only one in the PHB. Does it even have the wording like feats that it's totally a DM dependent option? Cause I find feats more basic than multiclassing.

    D&D 5E (2014) Why should I allow Multiclassing ?

3E style multiclassing (which 5E is) is much more often about making less effective characters than making more effective characters. They did actually address some of those flaws, but it's very easy to end up with a franken-character who is low on feats/stats, melees less than half as...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why should I allow Multiclassing ?

The background and class system of 5E is extraordinarily flexible; especially if you work with the DM, that multiclassing is rarely necessary. Some aspects of multiclassing can be covered by feats, too. Hence some of the feats that already allow a bit of spell dipping. Not to curtail the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Feats *and* aibility increases

The primary "problem" with the existing setup is that many characters are thoroughly encouraged to increase a primary statistic to 20, while many feats can hardly compare to +2 in a major stat. Giving out an extra feat lets you dip into the interesting feat fun space without impinging on a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Feats *and* aibility increases

If/when I start up my next 5E campaign I was planning on starting people at 4th level with both a stat bump and a feat (that can't be made into a stat bump), but then let it work normally thereafter. It seems like it would work out fine. As an alternative, let them have feats when their classes...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why should I allow Multiclassing ?

Eh, why allow multiclassing in the first place. No reason to include broken parts of the system unless they're necessary. If someone has a really cool character concept that only works with multiclassing they can bring it up. Chances are they could get what they need by just "retraining" their...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why should I allow Multiclassing ?

They pretty much chose the worst implementation of multi-classing that D&D has done. Not that any of them were tremendously good options. Seems reasonable to just say you're unhappy with it until someone provides a better option.

D&D 5E (2014) Should Power Word spells be a bonus action?

I'd have designed them as bonus actions or reactions, but with a lower effect. I just think it's a better design space for them to live in and sets them apart from the rest. (Obviously, I didn't design them)

D&D 5E (2014) Song of Rest stacking question

Let it happen. It's such a minor thing, lets their characters both function, and it only makes the adventuring day last longer, which is a good thing! Unless you want to angle for one of them to not play a bard, for other reasons.

D&D 5E (2014) Low Level Wizards Really Do Suck in 5E

That isn't much better than an average hit, tbh, which is important since the fighter is making 4 attacks instead of one. So, for example, 1d8+10 x 4 = 58 damage, compared to the 22 from the fire bolt.
