    D&D 5E (2014) Is Concentration Bugging You?

Potions and magic items don't bypass concentration requirements. Lair effects, lackeys, and special NPC abilities all work just fine, of course. Like you can have a legendary archmage whose legendary ability is he can cast and maintain a concentration spell with each legendary action. But that...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Concentration Bugging You?

Which edition was this not possible in? Casters have always been glass cannons. If you can hit them, they go down fast One of the other reasons to focus fire on them. HP aren't lower in this edition. They're actually higher compared to multiple editions. Particularly for the wizard types, with...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Concentration Bugging You?

I've stopped casting Hex on my warlock because of it. I'm okay losing Concentration to a big hit for 20-40 damage or whatever, but I was losing it to flurries of 3 point damage hits. Even with +3 to my save, which is really quite good, that's a 30% chance per hit.

D&D 5E (2014) Life Cleric vs Light vs War in Practice

Their ability maximizes one damage roll, not every damage roll made for a spell.

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Concentration Bugging You?

And it addresses one of your complaints about them needing more buff spells. I mean, do you really want the PC Archmage to be able to take out the party on his own with multiple buffs _AND_ for the NPC caster to do the same?

[Updated] Chris Sims & Jennifer Clarke Wilkes Let Go From WotC

I really hate that WotC does this. :(

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Concentration Bugging You?

As long as both PCs and casters are limited to not tons of buffs, how would this be NPCs working differently? Concentration is actually a really good thing for limiting one of the biggest problems with NPC casters in 3rd edition. Namely that they were _far_ more effective than non-casters. Not...

D&D 5E (2014) Life Cleric vs Light vs War in Practice

Yep, though you have better at-will options. Or at least at-will options that are more comparable to the rest of the group. The cleric and druid are the primary melee guys in one group I'm in, for example. It's not a bad fallback. Healing potions are 5e's CLW wand equivalent. Feel free to burn...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Concentration Bugging You?

Edit: Don't have my PHB on me, but I might be remembering paladin spells from playtest. So, deferring to others who are more familiar.

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Concentration Bugging You?

Honestly, I'm most okay with the concentration limiting # of spells part. I do think they might have gone slightly overboard (so I can't have multiple of Hex, Spider Climb, or Web active? Really?), but I'd be averse to letting people go over 1 without significant investment (ex: a feat) It's...

    D&D 5E (2014) Passive Perception

Essentially, if the players _could_ succeed given time, and there's nothing bad that happens if they take some time, you don't even need to roll. It's the old "take 20" equivalent. Maybe they roll high enough quick or slow, but the important part is that it just happens and you move on. If...

    D&D 5E (2014) Passive Perception

For those who dislike passive perception, do you ever roll a single d20 and secretly add it to their perception bonuses to see if the party notices something? It has the benefit of still being slightly random (avoiding the whole knowing in advance if their passives are good enough), though still...

D&D 5E (2014) Life Cleric vs Light vs War in Practice

Are you healing people who are unconscious only? How many of those are "I'm scared and might drop soon, so heal me"? Cause at the end of the day, using your action to give someone else an action? Great. A bonus action? Even better. Using your action to make someone feel safer, when you could...

D&D 5E (2014) Life Cleric vs Light vs War in Practice

I've heard several complaints about healing during combat being too difficult / inefficient; like it almost never being worth healing someone who isn't already down, and no matter the size of the heal it's not going to stop an enemy from just going through it in one round. Out of combat...

    D&D 5E (2014) Passive Perception

Fwiw, a DC 15 trap would be autodetected in every D&D 5e group I've been in, even the randomly thrown together ones. And never by me, so that's not the common element. So I think it says something else. More like "This trap is noticed by any group that has any sort of scout or perceptive...

    D&D 5E (2014) Passive Perception

You can nuance the situation a little - For example, Tripwire: Perception 15, +1 per foot from it; -5 in dim light - means that marching order and light matters, which at least supports D&D. It also becomes extra relevant when there are goblins waiting in ambush there as well _so that the trap...

    D&D 5E (2014) Can a PC perform a miracle with a stat/skill check?

    D&D 5E (2014) Rules Question - Alert (Feat): +5 vs Advantage

In some cases, yes. It is becoming increasingly common, in my experience, for adventures to have things like: Trap Door: This trap door is hidden under the carpet. If someone lifts the carpet, it is obvious, but it is impossible to detect otherwise. Secret Door: This secret door is activated...

    D&D 5E (2014) It's Official: I was wrong about Surprise!

Yep, that's why I didn't want to be an Assassin Rogue in Organized Play; figured it would be too hard to arrange surprise for predone adventures with semi-random comrades :)
