Anyone else out there with rule overload?

I do not think that word means what you think it means. :D

What are the cliched "first session ever" moments?

I'm going to diverge slightly from the suggestions so far: Rather than playing it safe and ending up pedestrian... go for evocative, exciting, set-piece encounters! Like the bridge of Khazad-Dum in the mines Moria, the boulder trap in Indiana Jones, or the garbage compactor in the death star.

Anyone else out there with rule overload?

This group is the first place I've seen that behavior. I can kind of understand - there's new fun stuff coming out all the time. Personally, I'm more of a serial PC monogamist: I'm fully committed to my characters until something catastrophic happens. Ooohhhh, so that's why you're doing that...

Brash Strike + Ornament of Alertness = Woot!

I was pleasantly surprised at the effectiveness of the item's daily power. I had originally taken the ornament because the bonus to perception worked well with my dragonmark of detection. It turns out the daily power was a sweet free gift with purchase!

Brash Strike + Ornament of Alertness = Woot!

I discovered a fun combo in tonight's game: 1) The fighter at-will Brash Strike causes you to grant combat advantage to your target, and 2) the neck slot Ornament of Alertness has a daily that negates the CA attack bonus until the end of the encounter. I thought it was pretty slick, as...

Has anyone ever taken these feats? And why?

Me rolling damage at the table: "Yeah, I don't really like that 1... let's just reroll it. Woohoo, ghetto crit!" Wik DMing at that table: :( Me watching Wik :( at the table: :D

Heroscape bases to be sized for D&D

This is great news! I had looked at Heroscape minis before - I loved the figures, but passed on them because of the base size.

    Interesting house rule from gabe@pennyarcade

I thought of posting it in one of the 4e forums, but I'm actually thinking of adopting it for my 3.5 game. So I split the difference and popped it out to General. I like the idea behind his post - it really is more interesting when players aren't taxed to death in the action economy for...

    "Come and get it" question?

I love comboing Come and Get It with an action point to Sweeping Strike. It's especially nice now that I'm a Dreadnought and gain resist all 10 when I use an action point. :)

    Interesting house rule from gabe@pennyarcade

Gabe posted this yesterday: I think it's an interesting idea - I could certainly see myself responding in pretty much exactly the same way he reports his players did! -blarg

Sagiro's Story Hour: The FINAL Adventures of Abernathy's Company (FINISHED 7/3/14)

That sounds awesome! I can't wait to read about it. :) Do you have more to do in the campaign, or was that the capstone?

Keeping track of combat length (for posterity)

Session 10: 2 hours total #1) 80 minutes, 940 XP each, 3 crits, 4 dailies, 1 action point, 8 surges. 6 rounds vs 3x brute 11s, 3x artillery 11s, and 1x controller 13 with ~820 hps. Wik decided it was time to bust out some dudes from Monster Manual 3, so we fought a pack of meazles tonight. It...

Has anyone ever taken these feats? And why?

That's awesome! I've always wanted to get a character to epic, and to see what the reeeeeaaally nasty monsters are like too!

Has anyone ever taken these feats? And why?

Now that we're paragon, Weapon Focus is giving +2 damage on every hit. It really does add up quickly with multi-attack powers. (Originally I took Weapon Focus on my fighter because I was playing two PCs when we started 4e, so I wanted to make sure they had mostly passive bonuses that would...
