D&D 5E (2014) The ultimate comeback! And a need for advice...

Yay for you man. It is a lot of fun getting the old band back together! Yes, any adventure can accomodate a large group. Just double, triple, quadruple the encounter size. Or chuck some other giant-themed monsters in. If you haven't played in a while, is it a good idea to start with Storm King?

    D&D 5E (2014) I have a far-east character, need help on weaponry

Do you really want a weapon that destroys loot? Because as a DM, I'm very in favor of that. :)

    D&D 5E (2014) So I Nuked The PCs

That sounds awesome. Don't forget the giant spiders with mounted particle beam cannons. :D

    D&D 5E (2014) Hate ASI's ?

Meh. Just don't use point buy and you'll avoid uniformity. If its reality you're trying to model, then it should just be straight 3d6, play em as they lay. The PCs are supposed to be exceptional individuals though, we're not playing accountants & doctors.

Official D&D Character Sheets Coming In June

I agree. This is like if you bought a new car but it had manual windows because hey, there are some people who haven't owned a car before who might enjoy that. (For those of you too young to remember what manual windows were, windows in cars used to have handles that you manually turned to open...

D&D 5E (2014) Goals for a party - why should they even go anywhere together?

I don't know you and I don't know what you've seen so fair enough man. I've met a few quite scary people over the years but never met anyone who I thought was outright evil. I did have a friend as a kid who showed the signs though (anti-social behavior, hit animals). Back to the topic, what...

D&D 5E (2014) Goals for a party - why should they even go anywhere together?

The operative word being "may", or are we presuming evil until proven good (or at least not-evil)?

D&D 5E (2014) Goals for a party - why should they even go anywhere together?

Having extreme negative views about a group is obviously distasteful (and I agree that may be grounds to disassociate yourself from them) but it doesn't automatically make them evil. Saying something and acting on it are two vastly different things. Some people just parrot back the hate they...

D&D 5E (2014) Goals for a party - why should they even go anywhere together?

Evil characters are not necessarily cackling villains who pathologically murder everyone they come across. They're not actively looking for chances to "be evil". But it is possible in a morally ambiguous situation that an evil character might show their colours and come into conflict with the...

D&D 5E (2014) Goals for a party - why should they even go anywhere together?

Before you begin play, get them to determine who knows who and how they met. Not everybody needs to know each other and they don't have to be best mates, they just need to be of a like mind. This even applies to good and evil characters since it is completely possible for them to find common...

    D&D 5E (2014) Ideas for impossible/intangible theft list.

A quasar is one of the possible outcomes of a collapsing star, but I don't think it's quite a black hole is it?

    D&D 5E (2014) Ideas for impossible/intangible theft list.

The blood of a stone The heart of the ocean The entrails of a ghost The virtue of an evil man The sands of time The shadow of a shadow The light that casts no shadow The light of a black hole That last one was actually in an RPG I played in. Turned out to be easier than we thought!

D&D 5E (2014) Where does optimizing end and min-maxing begin? And is min-maxing a bad thing?

Yeah thats true but there is some onus on the DM not to be a prick about character death, e.g. you should avoid laughing at the person. But back to optimisation, I don't think its that big a deal in 5e compared to 3e and (to a certain extent) 4e. We seem to think that 5e is Peak...

D&D 5E (2014) Where does optimizing end and min-maxing begin? And is min-maxing a bad thing?

No of course not, the point being I don't have problems so therefore not ALL DMs have the problem... I've seen the effect of powergamers too but the only time I step in is if people aren't having fun. And I know the DM is one of those people, but the DM has options! It's his/her game...

D&D 5E (2014) Where does optimizing end and min-maxing begin? And is min-maxing a bad thing?

Way to set up a straw man! As a DM, I have no problem whatsoever challenging different groups, whether they are avowed anti-optimizers or rabid powergamers. It's not that hard!

    Paladins and Squires

That's kind of a weird reason to create this subclass man! A "henchman" might be a better description. Squires were usually the sons of nobles, there to learn, rather than placed on the frontlines. You don't want to endanger the life of a noble if his father can squash you like a bug.

    Judgement calls vs "railroading"

For example, say you decided that you didn't want the PCs to be able to carry the NPCs blood. You say "theres nothing to carry the blood in" notwithstanding reasonable suggestions from the players. Vases, bowls, cups, chamberpots, boots, buckets, chests - the NPC has none of those things, not...
