D&D 5E (2014) How often should a party be rewarded?

Consumables are almost always great. Arrows, potions, oils, etc. make for great treasure because they're A: valuable B: useful and C: don't represent a major permanent boost in party power. Even if you intend to say, skip permanent magical items or non magical enhanced equipment, consumable...

D&D 5E (2014) [POLL] What drives your inspiration behind char gen?

I have no real jumping off point for character building. I've done theme, mechanics and copies of characters from media. I've just made stuff up and run with it mechanically. I've shown up with a bundle of random stats and mechanics and made up the character during the session. Hell, once I...

    D&D 5E (2014) using a revenant

Cool. I'm just saying, there's probably enough cruel and unjust deaths in a world to make Revenants not super rare.

    D&D 5E (2014) using a revenant

Let's see, Monster Manual: 'A revenant forms from the soul of a mortal who met a cruel and undeserving fate. It claws its way back into the world to seek revenge against the one who wronged it.' pg259 So...I think it's any mortal? But only if they didn't 'deserve' it. So Evil Revenants are OK...

    D&D 5E (2014) using a revenant

Revenants probably aren't super hard to find things out about. I mean, they pop up whenever somebody dies and then gets mad about it, basically, so not exactly uncommon. A simple passive check in Int(Investigation), DC 10 at a library for maybe a day's worth of time should dig up whatever...

    D&D 5E (2014) Need a safety net for 1st level characters -- it's complicated

Skip the lowest levels. It sounds like you have a game world appropriate for at least level 3 or higher characters. So don't waste everybody's time on level 1. You want a safety net? Second wind, Cunning action, Wizard Schools and other mechanics make great built in safety nets.

D&D 5E (2014) Beyond the book: new ways to represent a wizard's spells known

The spell is actually part of a piece of music, but it only works when you play exactly right, after preparing to do it. The magic's always there, but unless you're ready to play it, it's just noise.

    D&D 5E (2014) Not liking Bounded Accuracy

If I want to see whether or not a character can do something (like navigation) I usually just use their passive check modifier. The removal of randomness makes the Proficiency bonus and Stat bonus matter quite a bit.

    D&D 5E (2014) Treasure Ammunition Doubt

http://www.sageadvice.eu/2014/12/05/arrow-1-bow-2-magic-bonus-stack/ rwallace8665: I’m going to guess that rolling +1 ammo on the random table means one, not a quiver? JeremyECrawford: That's correct. A generous DM could certainly turn it into a quiver!

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition Intelligence

The usefullness of INT as an ability check in 5e depends on how much information it's possible to gather from setting details not necessarily known by the players (The various knowledge skills) and how much information can be determined by thinking about already known facts. If there's a lot of...

D&D 5E (2014) Monks - Bonus Actions, Extra Attack, Flurry of Blows, and Movement

Sorry, the Bonus Action unarmed strike in the Martial Arts section of the Monk class doesn't state that it benefits from the Extra Attack feature. The Extra Attack feature also says that it changes the Attack action, and has nothing to say about Bonus Actions. Finally, if the Martial Arts bonus...

D&D 5E (2014) 5th edition Ranger: Why does every class have to have it's own schtick?

That actually seems like a much better way to build a ranger right now than the current class. Given the wide variation in possible ranger archetypes (Blatant/Silent, Naturey/Martial, Friend to all living things/Loner type), I'd probably suggest to an experienced player trying to play ranger to...

D&D 5E (2014) Do Classes Have Concrete Meaning In Your Game?

Kind of. I have, for example created Wizard Guilds full of Wizards with Wizard Class levels. I've also had to start new games with new people, and in some games classes existed as things that can be referred to by characters, and in some they couldn't. Currently I work on the basis that most...

D&D 5E (2014) Which monsters have the most exciting powers?

I quite like the Kraken's fling action. It gains damage based on the distance it throws stuff, or characters, and can also be taken as a legendary action.
