    EVOLUTION! :)

    Gas Prices in Indy

As a complete aside, many years ago I once bought a car for £50 that came with a full tank of petrol. And at that end of the market, that's an important consideration. Because a full tank for that car used to cost in excess of £20.

    Gas Prices in Indy

Well I'll stop mentioning evolution if you stop mentioning petrol. :)

Hey just because something's not a hot political topic in a poster's country doesn't make it not be politics! :) Otherwise, us Brits ought to be able to discuss evolution in threads here on ENWorld, because that isn't a political issue over our side of the pond. :)

Maybe not in the US, but that isn't the case in the rest of the world. In the UK, petrol has now gone through the £4 per gallon mark ($7.23), about 86% of which is tax. It is claimed by the government (a claim which some people disbelieve - and I won't discuss my position on the subject because...

    Fair enough. :)

What non-English D&D products do you have?

Same here. Most of my stuff's American. Off the top of my head the only English D&D products I have are a few Mongoose things. If it was RPG stuff in general, then I could add in WFRP (although version 2 has an American design team) and Golden Heroes.

Splitters! We don't talk about them.

    Review of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Shush! The first rule of the Popular Front for the Liberation of non-D20 Roleplaying is that we don't talk about the Popular Front for the Liberation of non-D20 Roleplaying! :) Comrade Jonny Nexus, People's Shock Trooper in the 2nd "WFRP" Regiment of the Popular Front for the Liberation of...

    Review of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

I'm pretty sure I've been both nice and civil throughout the discussion. Certainly, if anyone has an example of something I said that they felt was out of order, I'd very much like them to bring it to my attention. The accusations of elitism, and assumptions about motivation, were not ones that...

    Review of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Well the animosity appears to be on both sides of the argument. We (the people who feel that the review was flawed) are repeatedly being told that we're "elitists" who are lying when we say we're simply arguing in favour of the truth and have no animosity towards the D20 system. The review...

    Review of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Well in so far as it applies to me, that isn't true. I don't play GURPS; I don't particularly like it. I do play a lot of 3rd Ed D&D, and like it a lot. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that I think that 3rd Ed D&D was a brilliant piece of work, and I'm still deeply impressed with the degree to...

    Review of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Exactly. Many of these things (such as the unified dice roll) are very much a parallel evolution that practically all games systems have or are going through. Saying that WFRP 2nd Edition has copied "D&D's" concept of having a unified dice roll is like saying that bats evolved from birds on...

Slightly off topic, but thank you both of them for liking them. :)

    Review of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Okay, my belief is that WFRP 2ed is derived from WFRP 1ed. That is, I believe that Green Ronin took the WFRP 1ed rules, and then added various new elements: - some of which were newly created; - some of which were concepts which - since the writing of 1ed - have become regarded as a universal...

    Review of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Well I'm not a big fan of RPGNet and don't go there, for reasons which aren't any secret but which I won't go into here because they a) aren't relevant to the discussion, and b) might potentially be seen as entering into the realms of politics and/or religion. But to a certain extent, ENWorld...

    Review of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

I don't agree with personal attacks, but this review does seem to have a very slanted view. It's a bit like someone "reviewing" a novel by saying, "XXXX is a very good novel, which is not surprising because it is largely derived from the novel YYYY, which I wrote some years ago". If - in that...

    Review of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

The point you seem to be missing is that it is a matter of opinion as to whether or not it is a positive review. Some people believe that it is a positive review. Other people believe that it is using positive sounding language in order to convey a negative impression of the product. (i.e...

    Review of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

It doesn't matter if a review is positive, if it says things that aren't actually true - especially when those things falsely imply that the game is inferior in certain areas to another game, a game which the author of the review had a hand in developing. In that case, the "positive things" come...
