    AD&D 1E Gestalt for 1e/2e feel

That's kinda what I was thinking, and feats would also fall behind. The big thing would be the HP "loss" compared to other single classed PCs. My concern would be their HP would fall behind enough to be too fragile in 3.5. The extra class abilities are nice, but you still only get one...

    AD&D 1E Gestalt for 1e/2e feel

I must have had a disconnect on seeing 3.5 multiclassing as Dual classing of old. I like that idea of separating humans out for "regular" multiclassing ... with it's old stat minimums for changing classes of course. Can't hurt to try once I'm thinking. Thanks!

    AD&D 1E Gestalt for 1e/2e feel

Greetings, Has anyone ever tried using Gestalt rules to mimic earlier versions of multiclassing? Split the xps in half (or thirds if triple classed) as they level I'm thinking. Only allow class combos for race as 1e (for an upcoming Greyhawk game). Starting at 1st level they'd get a boost...

    Two Dozen Nasty DM Tricks

I almost fell for #9 once, the DM BBwizard had made a simulacrum of himself and sent it after us, when we killed it, it turned to snow and we knew we were duped... but ahh... something glows magic! I try on the necklace w/o thinking... ah! Not quite dead with party help. I'll have to think...

    Most Ignoble PC Death

Back in high school, we had a gem-dragon nemesis that we one day cornered and killed... while it was just above us on a ledge. When it fell it landed on one of the PC's crushing him to paste. First we cheered at it's death, then stopped jaw open when it fell and killed the wounded fighter...

    Highest level you've played

1e - Played: 12th level halfling druid... a big deal when usually we restarted around 10th. DMed: 15th, usually starting new game around 12th 2e - never played, only houseruled 1e 3e - Late entry, but Player: 9th level wizard as DM: they are just hitting...

Killed by your own party member!

PC near death from fellow PC: 1e/2e hybrid days... a half giant fighter with big club, elven magic-user. We were all fighting in a hallway when the 1/2 giant crit misses. One roll on the fumble charts = crit hit friend! Nearest friend? Little elf wizard who gets KOed, but not dead from the...

My party is more evil than your party

My games tend tward PC's in the Neutral corner, few Goods. So if my PC's did that i'd probably just slap my forehead. :D Back in highschool, I was a player, our DM was using a one-off from Dungeon Magazine, the one where your PC's shrink. You have to find and destroy the thingy to restore...

Magic deadly to the caster and allies

For us, back in high school, it was the game in town you might say. So partly we just accepted it because it was "the rules". As far as fun, it's akin to playing with fire... can be fun, can burn you bad. Sometimes failing spectacularly (Fireball backlash, or LB bounce) is just as fun as...

    Min Max a Wizard

I would second the motion to be a Focused Specialist Wizard in Conjuration or Transmutation. Drop Evocation, Enchantment, and maybe Necromancy (or Illusion but i like casting while invisible). The threads may have been put out already: http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=956548 or...

How to Play D&D With Your Buddies from Highschool

Oh yeah, Geekfest was born 2003 when my high school DnD friends (Iowa City City High class of '89) and i decided we wanted to game together. We figured every other year would not tick off the wives too much since we were shooting for a whole week. My wife loves Ragbrai, so we're good since she...

teleported PCs to random dungeon - where would you put 'em?

A dry surface, maybe the slaves are building giant structures, like Easter Island or Egypt. Underground maybe deep deep borrow Journey to the Center of the Earth. Minus Brendan Frasier.

When was YOUR Golden Age of Gaming?

Hey Chainsaw, We've found for Geekfesting, once we locked in a week we could all do. We rented a place fairly central for all to fly/ drive too, and is close enough to at least one person to be "point man" to get there first, get the key, stock the fridge, etc. We wake up and are gaming by...

When was YOUR Golden Age of Gaming?

Golden Age for me was high school, mid-late 80's. AD&D w/ houserules in a homebrew world our DM made. Regular gaming every Saturday, good times, good friends, wacky adventures. Second Age was College, new friends, I'm now DM, and lots of gaming whenever we could. Meaning every weekend, then...

Monster/NPC & spells with XP cost

Within reason, I use whatever is needed at the time. Some uses w/o keeping close track of NPC xp, but not infinite ammount. The players don't know or need to know unless the wizard is casting Wish every round for many rounds... then they may cry foul.

Help me encourage my "slayers" to roleplay

Lots of good ideas above. Talking directly, to the group and/ or individually is good I think to get clear about what you're thinking and wanting in a game. I like the NPC's that have direct knowledge that will make the PC's lives easier. If ignored or killed, the PC's suffer, small or great...

    Kobolds, NPCs and gear...

There are other energy flasks, can't remember the book(s) offhand. If others do not put that info out, or you don't have that specific book, I'd just use the acid and fire as examples for lightning and cold. Sonic I'd just use Thunderstones. Also to help Tucker your kobolds, the size of the...
