    Insubstantial rules irk anyone else?

Abstraction. The swarm scatters and skitters from a forceful attack, so it's at a disadvantage and must spend a moment regathering ("standing up") before it can move/attack at full effectiveness. EDIT: Ninja'ed!

    Temporary Hit Points

A level 7 Infernal warlock with Improved Dark One's Blessing curses and then kills an enemy. His pact boon grants him 7 temporary hit points, and an additional 3 temporary hit points, for a total of 10. If temporary hit points never added together, he'd only get 7 (the higher value), and the...

    Sure Strike and damage

If it has the Weapon keyword, you get to add the weapon's enhancement bonus, and any relevant effects that apply to your weapon attacks, such as Weapon Focus, or Dwarven Weapon Training. You only add the ability modifier(s) that the power says to (or if you have some other effect that lets you...

    Cure Light Wounds: Nearly Useless?

By the time you get Bastion of Healing, Healing Word adds 2d6. And further extra dice will accrue far faster than your Charisma bonus will increase. That said, Bastion of Healing could still be very nice - in the sessions I've played, my cleric quite often runs out of healing powers, in spite of...

Who wouldnt take toughness and the +2 DEF feats?

Then you're not fighting enough encounters. ;) I mean, if your party has really good tactics and just doesn't take much damage, then it'll be rare to run out of surges, but generally a party's ability to handle a large dungeon or a long gauntlet is limited by their available surges.

stonegod's Expedition to Castle Ravenloft: Ch. I [IC]

"I agree, Sir Khensu. We need to find out more about what is happening here before we can act," says Selase, with a pointed look at Janis. Already walking toward the nearest open door, she murmurs with a suppressed grin, "Don't worry, Jarrith, you won't be crazy... like they are."

stonegod's Expedition to Castle Ravenloft: Ch. I [IC]

Selase kneels beside Jarrith and puts two fingers to his throat, measuring his pulse. "I would like to examine these bodies first," she says while pulling Jarrith's eyelid up. "The undead have to be dead first, and if we can find the cause of death, it might give us a clue as to what caused...

stonegod's Expedition to Castle Ravenloft: Ch. I [IC]

HP 36/36, AC 20, 4/5 Rebukes As Khensu steps to the side, Selase brings her arm up, flipping her grip on the knife, and as her hand whips down in a forward arc, her dagger flies toward the now-exposed zombie. She then moves toward Jarrith, taking her shield from her back. (Throw dagger...

stonegod's Expedition to Castle Ravenloft: Ch. I [IC]

HP 36/36, AC 18, 4/5 Rebukes Selase awkwardly slides from the back of her frightened Nali, stepping a few feet away and toward Daellin, in case the horse completely panics. She pulls her dagger from its worked leather scabbard at her belt, and the ruby set into the pommel glimmers three times...

stonegod's Expedition to Castle Ravenloft: Ch. I [IC]

Selase mouths, The ancient witches of Lysaga Hill?, her brow creasing. It sounds like these witches are a permanent fixture of life in Barovia. And this man doesn't mention anything about stopping them, so they must be either very powerful, or not usually evil. If it's the former, removing the...

stonegod's Expedition to Castle Ravenloft: Ch. I [IC]

The faraway, almost-daydreaming look in Selase's eyes disappeared at the solid thunk of the scrollcase on the table. "There's no such thing as a coincidence," she stated softly after a moment of flustered surprise, preempting any such comments. She starts to reach for the scroll, but changes her...

stonegod's Expedition to Castle Ravenloft: Ch. I [OOC]

This party is shaping up to have some very interesting dynamics... Should be fun!

stonegod's Expedition to Castle Ravenloft: Ch. I [OOC]

Vignette 3: Daellin was already out of the room by the time Selase could ask what was happening. Pulling on a robe, she shuffled down the hall to Maraat's room, muttering a few unkind words about elf nobles and trying to get the sleep out of her eyes. Light, I'll be glad if we can finally solve...

Does giving out more Feats affect the Fighter's power?

I would say it makes fighters weaker relative to other classes. A fighter's big (only) advantage is that he can manage a lot of feat combinations that other classes just straight-up can't do, or at least not until very high levels. Giving everyone extra feats is a boost to the fighter, too, but...

Hm, I agree that red is much easier to read.

    Help me reward a powergamer!

In one adventure I ran, at 2nd level, the fighter obtained a ring with a faint aura of Necromancy. It could heal the wearer of 1 hit point per day. This campaign went all the way to 20th level, and he never gave up on trying to figure out what was up with that ring. He was absolutely certain...

stonegod's Expedition to Castle Ravenloft: Ch. I [OOC]

Papers? Blast! I knew I forgot something. I also rearranged the order Selase's possessions are listed in (magic items are all at the top now), but nothing is changed. I'm still drawing a blank on Vignette 3, but see if you like this for the other two. War is Hell: Mind racing, Selase considered...

stonegod's Expedition to Castle Ravenloft: Ch. I [OOC]

How about the Day of Mourning, or the aftermath? With two Cyrans, Selase in Karrnath, and the three Flamers fighting on Karrnathi soil (I think? I believe Karrnath's actions were mostly defensive by the end of the war, but I'm not certain) and suddenly with their route back a hideous wasteland...

    Disarm, why so easy?

I'm inclined to agree with Graf, this sounds like one of the rare situations where Disarm is truly useful. Especially with a +7 bonus at 8th level, he won't be able to disarm much of anything other than a wizard. If you continually find it to be a problem, though, you could houserule that...
