Playtest Report: 5 pregens vs Orc Bloodrager

So today my group and I did our second playtest today. We did part of Raiders of Oakhurst last time and I was planning on finishing that on the second session, but after I saw the Orc previews I just new I had to do something with them, because they were sheer bits of awesome in the shape of...

    Orcs preview

Also I think the Bloodrager is an instance where the Paladin's Divine Challenge is going to be useful, because those retaliatiory attacks of him won't be focused on other players then, or at the least it will nullify the healing he gets fromt hose attacks... So the paladin has to hide behind his...

    D&D 4E Piracy and 4e

This, plus the fact that over here in the Netherlands a single album is not 15 dollar, but more like 20+ euros... or 35 dollar... With those kind of prices I am not suprised downloading is rampant. And unlike DVD prices the CD prices don't go down after a few months, so if you are patient you...

What's the Paladin bring to the table?

What it brings to the table is mostly a commonly known fantasy archetype. While close to a cleric/fighter combo in mechanics, it's that idea of being the noble defender that really keeps it in the game, I think...

    D&D 4E Piracy and 4e

I musta dmit that when I first found out that the D&D books could be downloaded I went ona bit of a download spree to get all the splat books... However after a while I found that I actually used barely any of them more than for just a single feat or spell, so I got rid of almost all of them...

    Excerpt: Multiclassing (merged)

QFT... I actually used that feat that lets you use one power or spell from other spell lists quite a few times. Assassin with the suggestion spell, psychic warrior with the schism power (extremely effective, one half of your mind buffs while the other fights), etc. Extremely effective because of...

    Daily Art Preview

Which is why I'm going to play a heavily Steven Erikson influenced campaign. Basically the characters get stuck in a resurgence of a war between two ancient races a la Jaghut/Imass, but with some flavor changes in it. Steven Erikson is great for plot and world building inspiration... :)

    tracking conditions - your approach?

I used poker chips placed beneath the minis on my first 4e session. Worked fairly well, although I ran out of different colors at some point, so I also still tried to note down the effects in my notebook... All in all that worked pretty well...

    Ending at level 21...

I wasn't very interested in epic play in 3.5, but one of my players who also DM's a lot absolutely loves it. For that reason I like it that epic play is now part of the core books, so hopefully our next epic campaign won't be so horribly broken when it comes to the rules, because while the epic...

    What to call adventurers?

Hey, keep your Dutch out of the game... :p We have a very good system of Dutch = out of game talk, English = in game talk. Don't go messing it up... :) Anyway, adventurers works for me, although IMC the characters are going to be the in the employ of the local noble as a sort of scouts/guards...

Are you going to buy an EXTRA copy of the PHB?

Everybody can just buy his own books. With 1 DM and 6 players I'm so not going to supply everybody with their copies of the PHB. I have better uses for my money than bankrupting myself on the player's behalf...

P stands for Paragon, as in that you get a paragon power at that level. The others stand for the level of a power you have at that level. So if the encounter column says: P, 7, 3, 1 this means you have 1 paragon power, 1 power of level 7 or lower, 1 power of level 3 or lower and one of level 1...

    D&D 4E Should 4e convert to metric?

I must admit that every time somebody mentions Das Schwarze Auge (The Black Eye) this image pops into my head of an RPG based around spousal abuse... :uhoh:

    Kobold Wyrmpriest and Kobold Minions

Exception based design says that the power (+5 temp hp) goes above the general rule (minions die when they take damage), so that would mean they get some hit points... My instinct would say that kobold minions should still die after taking damage, no matter what the power gives them... Common...

    D&D 4E Should 4e convert to metric?

The math is correct for non-gases... Take solid/fluid oxygen (kinda hard I admit) and you will have something heavier than water, yes...
