    D&D 5E (2014) Finally

Oh, here's a question for you: Is Scorching Ray a spell? Does it still do 3 rays for 2d6 damage each?

You did. Page 47 of the Basic rules in the equipment list under Arcane Focus. edit: or Druidic Focus or Holy Symbol

    D&D 5E (2014) Finally

Actually, the Basic rules do go into it. You can use the focus to replace the material components of a spell as long as they don't have a gold piece value listed.

Only a 21 and a half hour drive to Niagra Falls from Winnipeg. They have 4 of them. Maybe I could...no, I think my work might get angry at me.

D&D 5E (2014) Wizard with 20 CON and the Durable feat

It's not only the math that matters. There's other factors involved. How much math precisely is "I draw two swords instead of one per round" worth? You can express it on the one attack per combat you might miss because you can't draw your second weapon. But what number do you put on the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Finally

I did a couple of searches on the website. There are a couple of stores in Ontario that have quantities listed but none in Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Regina, or Vancouver.

    D&D 5E (2014) Finally

Seriously...apparently I have to order everything from Chapters from now on. We almost got a local store to sell us them today. They don't sell a lot of D&D stuff, so they don't pay close attention. We asked when it was coming out at their store. They said they'd have it Tuesday for sure...

D&D 5E (2014) Wizard with 20 CON and the Durable feat

I'm not diametrically opposed. I enjoy mechanical differentiation as much as the next guy. I happily powergamed my way through 3.0/3.5/4e. I picked the most optimal feats possible and loved every minute of it. After 14 years of that, I'm kind of done with it, though. I've seen the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Two-Weapon Fighting Style seems ... bad

Keep in mind that the extra attack means that the chance that you hit at least once every round increases. Which is more important at lower levels as well. But it means that if you miss your attack that round you do 0 damage. If you hit with at least 1 attack, you still get to do 1d6+5 points...

D&D 5E (2014) Wizard with 20 CON and the Durable feat

I'd say that's debatable. As I mentioned, I've been running 2 5e games for a while now and there's nearly an equal number of feats and stat bumps being chosen. I'd say that whether they are worth it depends on the character that is taking them. Any mechanics added to your character make it...

D&D 5E (2014) Wizard with 20 CON and the Durable feat

Here's the deal. I like "blandness". There's a reason feats are an optional rule in the first place. I want people concentrating on their character's personality. I find the only way to make people do that is by minimizing the amount of mechanics on their character. The reason both 3.5e and...

D&D 5E (2014) Wizard with 20 CON and the Durable feat

Feats in 5e have been specifically balanced to be exactly the same or slightly worse than a +2 to a stat. This is to make sure that new players who don't want to complicate their character with feats aren't less powerful than those who take feats. Feats also give you more options and more...

D&D 5E (2014) Wizard with 20 CON and the Durable feat

So, you're saying that if I'm a wizard who doesn't use weapons, it should be difficult to decide between +2 Int and the Dual Wielder feat? How about a Two-handed weapon Fighter deciding between +2 Str and Dual Wielder? If you don't care about the flavor, the feat should be useless to you and...

D&D 5E (2014) Ability Scores Are Different Now?

I'd argue that someone who had a 14 in their prime stat is a perfectly viable character in 5e. The difference between a 14 and 20 in their prime stat is significant but it is not enough to make you lose battles unless you are facing very hard monsters.

D&D 5E (2014) Ability Scores Are Different Now?

CR 3 Ogres might not but if we're talking about CR 15 monster when you are level 20...there's certainly a possibility that they hit more often than some of the CR 20 monsters by having bigger bonuses. As for the math, it's not precisely 1/2 level. It is about 1/2 level for monsters with bumps...

Learn about D&D organized play options

Yeah, it isn't about just grabbing a quick adventure. You're right, I can find that in many places. The idea is that LG in particular was about community. PFS is the same these days. It created a situation where you'd meet the other people in your city who also played LG or PFS and form a...

D&D 5E (2014) Ability Scores Are Different Now?

In 3.5e whether you could be hit by lower level creatures was kind of random. You might find a creature with a much lower CR than your party that happened to be a melee enemy with a huge strength in which case they could have a huge bonus to hit and hit you easily. Or you could be fighting an...

Learn about D&D organized play options

From the articles that have been published so far, here's the deal: If you get a magic item, you just write it on your character sheet and you are allowed to use it. If you played the game in a public location with the store having ordered the package, then you have certs. You then get a...

And on top of that WOTC did the same thing with Mark of Heroes before even Pathfinder did it. edit: actually it was Xen'drik Expeditions I was thinking of, I believe. edit 2: And the article says evil characters were not allowed but they were in Xen'drik Expeditions as well.

    D&D 5E (2014) A bard walks into a bar

Yeah, he understood. He was multiclassed as a cleric. If he wasn't singing, he wanted to cast spells. He couldn't cast and sing. His character had a low strength and a really bad BAB due to multiclassing. He didn't want to bother making what he considered to be useless attacks while risking...
