D&D 5E (2014) Dealing with a trouble player and a major blow up

The reason I said that is because I've observed her continually telling her boyfriend that he's being a idiot when he goes off on a tangent that makes no sense at all. I've seen her attempt to diffuse at least 5 other situations where he almost blew up and she said something like "ok, you need...

D&D 5E (2014) Out of the Abyss - No Drizzt afterall?

The reason people got worried about him is that he was mentioned at all and some people are really paranoid about mentions of him as you've seen in the thread, his name can throw some people into panic attacks. But also, I remember a confirmation that he was in the adventure. I can't remember...

D&D 5E (2014) Stormwind Fallacy and Vonklaude's observation on limitations

I still maintain that there will ALWAYS be decisions where you need to choose between roleplaying and optimizing. When those decisions come up and you can only choose one or the other, then the decision you make will determine the focus of your character. For instance, if you get a choice of a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is this power gamey?

Is it the most powerful combo in the game? No. But here is my beef: when I ran the last low level campaign with a Druid, battles almost always ended the same way. Nearly everyone would be near 0 hit points and badly in need of healing. Also all their spell slots would be used. The Druid would be...

Last Stand - Revising Death Saves

I'm not a big fan. I like the idea in the normal rules that when people are dropped to 0, they know they are on a clock to die and are helpless to stop it. It creates an inbetween spot between dead and alive. One where you can be thinking "Oh crap, I'm close to dead...but I might survive."...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is this power gamey?

My "good reason" would be that it creates a rather large imbalance in power levels which isn't fun for other players at the table. This means you could be at 2 hitpoints in your wildshape form then get hit for 40 damage from a fireball that rolled really well and only take 1 point of damage...

D&D 5E (2014) Just read Vengeance of the Iron Dwarf...

Yes. As I said, I was referring to the pre death version. Post death she is around 6 wizard/6 cleric since she has cast 3rd level spells as both a cleric and wizard. But she's almost always identified as a wizard that also gets powers from her goddess since she spends all her time actually...

D&D 5E (2014) Just read Vengeance of the Iron Dwarf...

17 and 18 isn't epic level. The only time epic level has been used as a term is when something is post level 20. I'm not sure who had that power either. None of the heroes of the hall are monks. If you mean some of their enemies are very high level or that they have some very high level...

D&D 5E (2014) Just read Vengeance of the Iron Dwarf...

They are all supposed to be around 10-15 level. I haven't seen them use any "epic level" powers. Cattie has had a mixed up history. Since she originally was just a fighter before she decided to become a fighter/wizard who was devout and..maybe a cleric. Then, over time they kept emphasizing...

D&D 5E (2014) Just read Vengeance of the Iron Dwarf...

It should be noted that she was a fighter. She then gave up being a fighter in order to be a wizard. But mostly she spent all her time being a wizard. There's been vague references to her being able to channel the power of her god but it's awfully vague if she's a cleric at all. If anything...

D&D 5E (2014) Dealing with a trouble player and a major blow up

As a side note, I posted on Facebook that I'd like to start a new weekly game to play Out of the Abyss. I managed to get 7 people signed up immediately. I only want 6 and I am not a huge fan of the role playing ability of 2 of them. But I'm not sure I can tell them no easily. Also, all but 1...

D&D 5E (2014) Dealing with a trouble player and a major blow up

I want to, at the very least do this via phone. But I work nights so I wake up at 6 pm every day. I had plans with people every day that week. I realized that for me to put aside the 30-60 minutes to talk on the phone about this was going to be impossible before our Sunday game and I wanted to...

D&D 5E (2014) Dealing with a trouble player and a major blow up

As a side note, I just found out that the entire time I was having this text message conversation with his gf, she was texting MY gf. After I mentioned to her that my gf was kind of angry that she cancelled all her plans and spent a bunch of time preparing an adventure only to show up and be...

D&D 5E (2014) Dealing with a trouble player and a major blow up

Dealing directly with him wouldn't have proven anything. He would have immediately blamed me for everything. On any normal day I direct my comments to her rather than him because I'm not generally his friend. I've learned over the years that directing comments to him usually ends up with him...

D&D 5E (2014) Dealing with a trouble player and a major blow up

One, likely final, follow up to this thread. I finally made my decision and decided to bow out of my Sunday D&D game. I texted the guy's girlfriend since I figured she'd be more reasonable and said I wasn't coming because I felt that my presence at the table was causing problems and I didn't...

D&D 5E (2014) Kender as an appropriate race

Well, everything within reach from his place at the table. They were shiny and he liked the look of them, so he pocketed them. It's just that he rolled low on his skill check to pocket them and he was spotted. He didn't understand why someone would be so angry. After all, they seemed to be...

D&D 5E (2014) Kender as an appropriate race

I don't know about that. I played an elf who was pretty darn racist for the longest time. I mean, it wasn't the wisest thing to start saying his opinions out loud, so he kept them to himself. And he was still good aligned, he just felt that other races NEEDED him to save them because they...

D&D 5E (2014) Just read Vengeance of the Iron Dwarf...

I haven't yet gotten around to reading Vengeance of the Iron Dwarf (it's next on my list) but so far I enjoyed Night of the Hunter. It's a good reintroduction to the companions after the long gap of having most of them missing. Regis is a more interesting character now.

D&D 5E (2014) Kender as an appropriate race

The problem is that Kender are written so inconsistently. They don't make sense because everything written about them is so contradictory. They have no fear. But Tasslehoff in the books continuously rationalizes behavior that would only come from fear by saying "He is just concerned about his...

D&D 5E (2014) Kender as an appropriate race

I still don't think they are playable if you play them the way described in the book. All of the times I saw them ruin campaigns had nothing to do with bad DMing. The DM ran the game just fine. But the time our Kender decided to steal the entire silverware collection from the Duke who invited...
