Costs of Being Treated (My Ambulance Ride Cost Over $2,800)

No, it was over a scheduling conflict. Very tightly wound, that girl. And it wasn't a very impressive eruption (I assume you're talking about Eyjafjallajökull a few years back), as much as it was mildly annoying.

Costs of Being Treated (My Ambulance Ride Cost Over $2,800)

Here the ambulance service is run by the Red Cross with additional support from the fire department. It doesn't cost anything, as such, but if you call an ambulance for something deemed "unnecessary"--for example, I know a very anxious girl, somewhat of a hypochondriac, who called an ambulance...

What Do You Want To Talk About? (EnWorld edition)

Oh, yeah. No, I don't get his salary—not that I know what he makes—which I would in a perfect world.

What Do You Want To Talk About? (EnWorld edition)

It means I'm the boss when he's away. I don't know where you'd get the impression I don't get paid for it. More work = more hours = more money. But also = more tired = less time for everything else.

What Do You Want To Talk About? (EnWorld edition)

I've been acting manager at the hotel I work at for the last two weeks, in addition to my normal workload. The manager finally returns from his trip to China this evening. I am wiped. But we're getting a friend from Canada over for a few days next week. Looking forward to that!

    What happened with Vampire?

So this has finally hit the non-local media: http://www.ccpgames.com/en/public-relations/press-releases/article/77171/ccp-games-halts-development-of-world-of-darkness-mmo/

    Dungeons?

In my previous campaign, probably 2 out of 3. "Dungeon" also meaning haunted mansions, abandoned sewer systems, etc. My current campaign has seen more wilderness action, but that's mainly because they've so far spent most of game time buggering about the map.

    What happened with Vampire?

IIRC things said at a party years ago, CCP originally meant for VtM to be their big followup to Eve: Online, but then Eve became much bigger than hoped and all resources kept getting directed back to the main product. And VtM got shelved a few month ago according to the local media. For now...

    D&D 5E (2014) Status of skills/tools and expected changes

I wouldn't say there isn't a DC beforehand as much as there isn't one until moments before the roll, and I tend to stick to a handful of DCs (Easy/Average/Hard) for most things. I don't write out adventures or run modules, I have at most some notes, a head full of ideas, and perhaps a segment...

Why Do Batman Fans Hate Christopher Nolan?

Yeah, while there's the occasional Nolan-Batman-hater, I think that the Nolan movies are overwhelmingly loved by Batfans. DKR perhaps more controversial than the other two. For one, it's the cinematic version of Batman that's truest to the (modern) comics. The movies are pretty much cobbled...

    D&D 5E (2014) Status of skills/tools and expected changes

How do I decide what's normal or fancy? I think: "Would I like this lock to be standard or complex? Which makes more sense in context? Which makes for a better game?" I then answer myself. If I don't find the answer obvious, I will err on the side of the players or roll something. As I see it...

    D&D 5E (2014) Status of skills/tools and expected changes

I don't really have anything against Take 20 conceptually, I just find it redundant in play. Generally, if there's a task that a PC should reasonably be able to do given time, they can just do it if given the time. If I request a roll, it's to check how long it will take (if I find that...

    Ebooks on the way out?

I have always considered ebooks to be the successors to paperbacks, not hardcovers. How are they fairing?

26 Best Cult TV Shows Ever

I think the Doctor is a good example of a show that didn't start out as a cult show at all, but faded into cult status over it's run (only to dig itself out over the first few season of the new show).

what isn't an rpg that should be?

I'm gonna second Thundercats. It's practically a D&D campaign out of the box.

The only fantasy world map you'll ever need

My main problem with most kitchen sink settings is how much they downplay and normalize their kitchen-sinkyness. I love a kitchen sink, but I like to play up the inherent weirdness of it. Because it's bizarre. Much in the same way superhero comics are.

    Only in America

There is a long tradition of liquid mixes here, with some ancient local brands, but it's usually in liter containers. Powdered ones usually come in smaller sizes (although you generally buy half a dozen together), except Nesquick (which is by far the biggest brand, everybody of my generation...

    Only in America

Except for the IKEA cafeteria, I can't think of any places like that. Plenty of buffet lunch places, but not quite like that. Peanut butter is pretty common here and is more common today than when I was a kid (it was available, it just hadn't caught on).
