Where else did you post this? I'm interested in reading other people's suggestions (as well as just scoping out the other forums).

    Creative Game Advice

As for the thread topic itself! 1. The kobolds just needed a place to call their own and were (like many) seduced by the dungeon's siren calls. They actually quite like the dungeon, and although they'd like to be able to leave, they are more bothered about the dungeon's other denizens than...

    Creative Game Advice

It used to be a bit more active in this regard, although ENW has always been more mechanical and theory-bent. There also used to be a bigger culture of people sharing stories about their games, in general. It just kinda dwindled over time; moved more into the Story Hours and such; endless...

I think it has more to do with ENW's user base just having become somewhat jaded.

D&D 5E (2014) Subclasses, complexity and decision points

I don't mind a myriad of subsystems at all, as long as they're contained within classes. I'm all for each class (or subclass) having their own mechanical way of going about things. I do not want a wide array of general subsystems, though.

    D&D 3.x I miss 3E/4e style feats

I echo the comments so far.

    D&D 4E 4e-like games?

From what I gather, 13th Age is your best bet. I get the impression that it's like 4e, but unconstrained by the need to be "The Proper D&D" (while remaining firmly D&D-like).

    D&D 5E (2014) Q&A 8/1 - Attack & Skill Checks , Spell DCs and Stat Caps

I suspect it's rather the other way around: Easy is set at 10 to accommodate all the bonuses. People have come to expect a lot of things to deliver a bonus.

    D&D 5E (2014) Playtest Fatigue?

Long since stopped playtesting. Scheduling our regular game was difficult enough, and ultimately I just found it too hard to juggle two games.

D&D 3.x Good news, everyone, I found a system that replaces the combat maneuver system in 3e/Pathfinder.

I'm 28. I started with RC, which came out in 1991. It's slightly more complicated than Moldvay, but only in that it has some additional opt-in systems. I also feel that I should clarify that I don't mind a thick rule book. I don't mind a gazillion options of rules. When I talk of complexity...

D&D 3.x Good news, everyone, I found a system that replaces the combat maneuver system in 3e/Pathfinder.

I don't remember the rules for tripping. I just used it as an example, knowing it's something that bugs a lot of people and it had been mentioned in the thread. But if all the combat maneuvers worked that way, I'd be fine with that, I think. Although the extra roll annoys me some, it's not...

D&D 5E (2014) Stormcaller and Shocking Grasp; drawing and sheathing weapon

    Drawing/switching/sheathing a weapon is a free action.

D&D 3.x Good news, everyone, I found a system that replaces the combat maneuver system in 3e/Pathfinder.

I imagine that in most of those cases, the system doesn't work for them, for a variety of reasons. My personal reason is most often pacing. The fiddlier the rule, the more it pauses the game, and the less often it comes up, the worse it is when it comes up. It's a lot easier to handle a fiddly...

D&D 3.x Good news, everyone, I found a system that replaces the combat maneuver system in 3e/Pathfinder.

What about the effect simply requiring a slightly better roll? Beat the DC to hit = Damage. Beat the DC to hit by X* = Damage + Effect. * (5 or 3 or 10 or whatever comes out best math-wise.)

DMs Advice - Player's bad assumptions

If the party has an arcane caster, I would point towards his player and say: "Your team mates are barking up the wrong tree; you see that this doohicky is blatantly arcane." If the party has a dwarf, I'd do the same, only reversed.

[Points of Light] Durations, Durations, Durations!

I changed all conditions to Save Ends in my 4e game, but they lasted for one round minimum. Worked fine for us. I didn't make any distinction between at-will, encounter or daily in this and it didn't seem to matter, but we only had one at-will in circulation that delivered a condition and that...

    D&D 5E (2014) Saving Throws

Yeah, I have. And more. I'm in the planning stages of compiling my own D&D, standardizing and streamlining either Labyrinth Lord or S&W to a few base mechanics (a d20, and probably either a d6 or 2d6). Thief skills will definitely go d20. But I digress.

    D&D 5E (2014) Saving Throws

I have been looking towards a d20-fied B/X or OD&D to replace my 4e game, actually.

    D&D 5E (2014) Saving Throws

I agree to some extent. I've come to the conclusion that yes, the great universal mechanic is no such thing (at least not the d20), and that it is better to have a 'suite' of a few different mechanics for different rolls of different nature. With that said, I'd like the keep the types of rolls...
