D&D 5E (2014) Wandering Monsters: Morons and Salads

I tend to look at edition changes more like DC's cyclical reboots. It's kinda the same universe, but it's also kinda not exactly. It's a new version of the universe. Wally West is Kid Flash; is Flash; never existed. Multiversal baby!

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next name?

When I google "Dungeons and Dragons" the top searches, outside of general info, are all 4e, video game, or movie related. I imagine that Next will take the 4e spot when it comes out, no matter what it's called.

D&D 5E (2014) And now for something positive

I've caught this too—Moderate DCs seem a bit high—but I also find myself always reaching for DCs in increments of five when I need to pull a DC out of my ass. So if the math assumes that (and I'm not sure it actually does at this point), that feels like a big plus to me. And if you want to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Which feats shouldn't be feats

I have to admit that I don't really get the Charge feet. What's the benefit, exactly? You can move up to your speed and do an attack. Yes? So? What is stopping me from doing that without the feat? Do they mean that you move twice your speed (basically "hustling" for free, as long as you hustle...

    D&D 5E (2014) Which feats shouldn't be feats

Reading the feats, except for Pick Pocket, they don't seem to preclude you from attempting these things without the feat, they simply make you better at them. Nonetheless, when there's a feat called "Shove Away", it does give you the feeling you can't do it without it, even though I see no...

D&D 5E (2014) What would you want for a *new* 5E campaign world?

Sure. And I prefer the ground to be optional. But I dig visuals. I dig imagery. And cool imagery is what I steal from published products more than anything else.

D&D 5E (2014) What would you want for a *new* 5E campaign world?

Is this thread about showcase settings? I thought it was about what kinda setting you'd like to see.

D&D 5E (2014) What would you want for a *new* 5E campaign world?

Why would you go for bog standard visuals when you could go for an ocean of clouds?

D&D 5E (2014) What would you want for a *new* 5E campaign world?

I personally would like to see a new strong 'trope/hook as world' setting. I generally prefer my settings to be either all-encompassing (like Planescape, my all time favorite D&D setting), or narrow and specific, around a theme (say, Ravenloft) or one focused on a specific location with a strong...

    D&D 5E (2014) We need more Int/Str/Cha saving throws

I'm kinda regressing to preferring the three save dynamic, if only because I find them easier to adjudicate. I ask a save of a character, is it STR or CON; or is it INT, WIS or CHA? But I also want all ability scores to matter to the saves, so I like 4e's STR/CON, DEX/INT, WIS/CHA setup. But I...

    D&D 5E (2014) Paring the skill list

So no, then. Slightly broader. Thanks!

    D&D 5E (2014) Paring the skill list

Are Pathfinder's skills narrower than 3e's skills?

    D&D 5E (2014) Bring Back Gnomes!

I'll echo the gnome love. I think they have a fairly solid archetype, as the non-Tolkien dwarf.

    D&D 5E (2014) Dec 17th Packet - Monsters and Math, Hurrah!

I thought they had cut out stat bonus to damage. Were they just musing?

    D10

When you say d10 system, do you mean White Wolf's Storyteller/Storytelling systems? Roll a pool of d10s and count successes? http://www.white-wolf.com/new-world-of-darkness

    Skill Challenges

And I believe (one of) pemerton's point(s) is that the same is true of SCs, per RAW, as is shown in the rule blocks he posted. I haven't mastered 4e's SCs--and I don't really like the system as written--but pemerton appears to be correct here: RAW may not have done a very good job of hammering...

Inventing names is detrimental to my immersion

I don't really worry about it. I try to keep some consistency, so that say, all the goblin from that particular tribe have similar names, but that's as far as I take it. I tend to use names as shorthand at characterization a lot, rather than as a tool in worldbuilding. I give obvious villains...

    Skill Challenges

I agree with this. 4e's SCs didn't gel with me until I stopped trying to force the 4e SC system to fit all situations. I don't think every situation needs it's own minigame, but I think the SC framework needs to be a bit bulkier.

    Sportacus

Well, he's an elf. Not a D&D elf, mind, but a fey nonetheless.
