    Must have book per edition

Exactly. 4e mostly delivers on it's promise of easy DMing, but suffers for that while it's easy to throw together a decent fight, for the system to really shine you need to put some forethought into it. Which makes this perfect for someone like me who likes to pull things out of my arse as I go...

    Must have book per edition

I have much love for the Rules Cyclopedia. I have read it through multiple time. No other book informs my view of D&D as much, even though I haven't actually played it since I reached puberty. Dungeon Delve is a great book that gets no respect. No 4e book has gotten as much use (on the DM's...

    D&D 5E (2014) Dissapointed with Attunement

Thanks for the clarification, Kamikaze Midget.

    D&D 5E (2014) Dissapointed with Attunement

Kamikaze Midget I still don't really get the problem you have with this. Would marking the rule as optional from the get go solve this? It just seems that this kind of rule (not necessarily exactly this one; I take it from your comments that you'd frown upon any rules on this) is something a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Dissapointed with Attunement

Is this assuming that it won't be so? I agree with you on the advice bit, but I don't see how having (and preferably explaining) this default (and presumably optional) rule harms the game. It doesn't seem mutually exclusive. Is it fear of 3e/4e-style rule lawyering and general disrespect for...

    Fudging is not your friend

Here's an example of fudging from our last game: The party went up against a pack of displacer beasts. The fight was dragging on because of their displacement ability and I forsaw a frustrating time-sink of a fight, so I cut their HP in half. The fight ended up being a loads of fun and at times...

Using long passage of time successfully...examples?

I have often done variations of this. In my current campaign I have jumped ahead in time three times: After a brief one session excursion into a hell dimension, the PCs discovered that six months had passed in the material world and everyone thought them dead. I mostly did this to quickly...

A non white male middle class British Doctor?

That's the meta reason, of course. Like I said, I'm OK with handwaving. Like that one with the regenerations.

A non white male middle class British Doctor?

Yes. You misunderstand: Why hasn't the Doctor switched genders until now?

Avengers sequel announced + Marvel-based TV series coming

That's the first full season, that aired over the summer of 2011. I dunno why you missed season 2. But more the glory to you, as the second season is excellent.

A non white male middle class British Doctor?

Why hasn't it happened until now?

Avengers sequel announced + Marvel-based TV series coming

Maybe you only saw the 20-part micro-series that served as a pilot of sorts? It got recut into the first few episodes of the series proper.

A non white male middle class British Doctor?

I get the feeling that the Doctor being british is more crucial to non-brits than brits. In any Doctor change I expect them to keep true to the character. This is as true of him regenerating into a black man, a woman or an Australian. But for him turning female, I would also require some kind...

Avengers sequel announced + Marvel-based TV series coming

That's not true. EMH just ended it's second season. Next year it will relaunch as Avengers Assemble. The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Wolverine and the X-Men (it's sibling series) did get cancelled, though.

Avengers sequel announced + Marvel-based TV series coming

Do you mean United They Stand (1999) or Earth's Mightiest Heroes (2010)? Turns out EMH (which is fantastic) isn't getting cancelled, but getting reworked as Avengers Assembled to resemble the movie line-up more. They're basically doing JL/JLU, but in reverse.

A non white male middle class British Doctor?

The only thing I would find a stretch is the gender change, but give me a nifty enough explanation and I'm on board.

So, who wants to talk about new Doctor Who (spoilers likely)

Yeah, Who canon is wibbly wobbly at best. After all, he does keep messing with the timeline. Moffat and RTD at least gave comic book explanations (Amy's crack eating time/Great Time War = Superboy Prime punching reality) for their changes. Classic Who writers just didn't give a damn and rewrote...

    Fudging is not your friend

So, has the thread reached a shaky consensus of what fudging entails? Because I generally don't fudge dice rolls (and roll all dice in front of my players, though not because of any highly grounded reasons, I just find it quicker and easier), but I suspect a lot of people would consider a lot of...

D&D 5E (2014) What should the skill list look like?

I really like this approach. Maybe Rogues can get an extra bonus instead, or learn skills more easily.
