Why do levels one and two suck so bad?

Oh, yeah, there's the little problem of everybody else being as good or better than you at what you're doing, so finding an adventure for the PCs to do should be difficult. Why hire the PCs when you can hire people with experience and better gear?

What options are you really happy you allowed into your game?

Uh, you know the caster could just center the fireball 20' in the air and just hit the square the BBEG is in, right?

Why do levels one and two suck so bad?

I don't have a lot of money starting out, so I can't afford a lot of things that would make adventuring a little easier. You have to pinch and scrimp and account for every little copper. As a DM, I would think it's hard to make adventures for essentially, caravan guards.

What's the Best RPG Bargain You've Ever Gotten?

I got a whole crapload of older edition stuff from a professor at my college, all for $35. Ten modules, two Role-Aids books (Elves and Dragons), two White Dwarf issues, Town of Baldemar and a whole bunch of Dragon and Dungeon magazines, as well as beat-up copies of the Basic and Expert rules. I...

What options have you regreted allowing in your game?

I don't see how this is a big deal. So, you're immune to criticals and sneak attacks. Unless the campaign is rogue-centric, I don't see how this is such a great armor property to get. For the same price I could get ethereal armor. Unless everyone in the party has heavy fortification armor, I...

    Bloodbloater Ooze CR1?

I would never take Burning Hands. Ever. 1d4 damage at 1st level vs. Sleep/Color Spray/Grease. Easy choice every time. Even at 3rd level, you'll see Web, Glitterdust, or Hypnotic Pattern as my area spell over something like Snowball Swarm. Oh, and you can use oil flasks just like alchemist's...

    D&D N. I. M. B. Y.

Never played a previous edition. Elves and half-elves. I'd make humans less versatile or the other races more geared towards a niche of some kind. I loathe having lots of humans in a party. Humans are boring. I'd want things kept in the rules, really. I definitely want to stay with...

20 Minutes of Fun ... and for How Much Money?

Good god man, what all did you buy? What genre did you use that could possibly need that many books? Oh, wait. Space. Ultra-tech, Bio-tech, Powers, a campaign book...I can see that. Maybe Banestorm. But still...$185? Ow.

    Tomb of Horrors 3.5 ?

I DMed a kinda-hybrid version. I got the levels too high, but the players felt it was challenging. Watch out for the 4-armed gargoyle. It can wipe a party. Other than that, there's not a whole lot to worry about, unless the PCs are idiots who go around touching everything with their hands.

    Bizarre/novelty/comedy modules/adventures?

Ah, yes. There's one really odd module that's a Cthulhu by Gaslight (1890's) module converted to D&D. Or it should be. Because the PCs are part of the law enforcement of the local town. Local laws say they can't use detect spells or divinations or whatever on people because that's...

Why no 3rd level fear spell?

No, this frightens one creature per three levels of 5 HD or less. Not a group. One targeted creature So you can scare four creatures of 5 HD or less at 12th level with your 2nd level spell. Whee. 3.5 Scare blows. Instead of a group spell, you have an individual target spell...and then at 4th...

Help me defend (or attack) this kingdom (long)

One thing the Empire should exploit is the artillery power of Hill Giants. Giants should be more mobile than catapults or scorpions and they can throw multiple rocks every round for almost as much damage per shot as a light catapult and easily as much as a ballista. If they can get Frost...

Your Experiences with Non Core Characters

I played a dwarven Dragon Shaman for a level until I was killed by a vampire. I really like the idea of being the meat shield that breathes fire (or acid or whatever) on people. The auras seemed kinda cool, but I really wished I had a martial weapon. Not a fan of Warlocks. The flavor locks...

    Need more spells per round!

Factotums from Dungeonscape get an ability at 8th level called Cunning Surge, which lets them spend three inspiration points and get another standard action. There's a feat from the WotC site that gives you a number of additional inspiration points equal to the number of times you have taken...

    Orcs: How Important Are They?

IMC Orcs are semi-civilized nomadic fugitives from the ocean. All the giant turtles they lived on dove to the bottom and they moved west towards land. As you want dwarves in dungeons and mines, you want Orcs on ships. Orcs are a staple creature. Most campaigns have something that can pop up...

DMs are too easy on their players

[heavy french accent] Edena, Edena, Edena...you have confused messenger and message. I am neither able nor willing to participate in such a challenge. It is not in my blood, as they say. Someone else will have to provide you with your mathermatical orgy, I am afraid. I bid you adieu...
